Removal and Installation of EvaporatorNJS000HW
REMOVAL
1. Remove low-pressure pipe 1 and high-pressure pipe 2. Refer to ATC-161, "Removal and Installation of
Low-pressure Pipe 1 and High-pressure Pipe 2" .
CAUTION:
Cap or wrap the joint of evaporator, low-pressure flexible hose and high-pressure pipe 1 with suit-
able material such as vinyl tape to avoid the entry of air.
2. Slide evaporator, and then remove it from heater & cooling unit
assembly.
3. Remove intake sensor from evaporator, and then remove evap-
orator.
INSTALLATION
Installation is basically the reverse order of removal.
CAUTION:

Replace O-rings of low-pressure flexible hose, low-pressure pipe 1 and high-pressure pipe 1, 2
with new ones, and then apply compressor oil to it when installing it.

Female-side piping connection is thin and easy to deform. Slowly insert the male-side piping
straight in axial direction.

Insert piping securely until a click is heard.

After piping connection is completed, pull male-side piping by hand to make sure that connection
does not come loose.

O-rings are different from low-pressure flexible hose (high-pressure pipe 1) and low-pressure pipe
1 (high-pressure pipe 2).

Mark the mounting position of intake sensor bracket prior to removal so that the reinstalled sen-
sor can be located in the same position.

When recharging refrigerant, check for leaks.

Removal and Installation of Expansion ValveNJS000HX
REMOVAL
1. Remove evaporator. Refer to ATC-167, "Removal and Installation of Evaporator" .
2. Remove mounting bolts, and then remove expansion valve.
CAUTION:
Cap or wrap the joint of evaporator with suitable material
such as vinyl tape to avoid the entry of air.
INSTALLATION
Installation is basically the reverse order of removal.
CAUTION:

Replace O-rings of evaporator with new ones, and then apply compressor oil to it when installing
it.

O-rings are different from low-pressure flexible hose (high-pressure pipe 1) and low-pressure pipe
1 (high-pressure pipe 2).

When recharging refrigerant, check for leaks.

CAUTION:

When removing water pump, be careful not to get engine coolant on drive belts.

Water pump can not be disassembled and should be replaced as a unit.

After installing water pump, connect hose and clamp securely, then check for leaks using radiator
cap tester (commercial service tool) and radiator cap tester adapter (commercial service tool).
REMOVAL
1. Remove following parts:

Front engine undercover (power tool)

Engine cover: Refer to EM-179, "INTAKE MANIFOLD" .

Engine room cover (RH and LH): Refer to EM-173, "ENGINE ROOM COVER" .

Air duct (inlet): Refer to EM-177, "AIR CLEANER AND AIR DUCT" .

Alternator, water pump and A/C compressor belt: Refer to EM-174, "DRIVE BELTS" .
2. Drain engine coolant from drain plugs on radiator and both side of cylinder block. Refer to CO-40, "
Chang-
ing Engine Coolant" and EM-253, "DISASSEMBLY" .
CAUTION:

Perform this step when engine is cold.

Do not spill engine coolant on drive belts.
3. Remove water pump pulley.
4. Remove water pump.

Engine coolant will leak from cylinder block, so have a receptacle ready under vehicle.
CAUTION:

Handle the water pump vane so that it does not contact any other parts.

Do not disassemble water pump.

VK45DE ENGINE MODELS
Removal
1. Disconnect the battery cable from the negative terminal.
2. Remove engine front undercover, using power tools.
3. Remove “B” terminal nut (1).
4. Disconnect alternator connector (2).
5. Remove alternator ground harness mounting bolt (3).
6. Remove the harness bracket bolts (A).
7. Remove air intake duct. Refer to EM-177, "
AIR CLEANER AND AIR DUCT" .
8. Remove alternator, water pump and A/C compressor belt. Refer to EM-174, "
DRIVE BELTS" .
9. Remove power steering oil reservoir tank (1) from the bracket,
engine coolant reservoir tank (2) and vacuum tank (3).
10. Remove the harness clips (A).
11. Remove alternator mounting bolts (B), using power tools.
12. Remove alternator assembly upward.
