Adjustment of Steering Angle Sensor Neutral PositionNFS000Q4
In case of doing work that applies to the list below, make sure to adjust neutral position of steering angle sen-
sor before running vehicle.

CAUTION:
To adjust neutral position of steering angle sensor, make sure to use CONSULT-II.
(Adjustment cannot be done without CONSULT-II.)
1. Stop vehicle with front wheels in straight-ahead position.
2. Perform “CONSULT-II Starting Procedure”. Refer to GI-38, "
CONSULT-II Start Procedure" .
3. Turn ignition switch ON and touch the CONSULT-II screen in the order of “ABS”, “WORK SUPPORT” and
“ST ANG SEN ADJUSTMENT”.
4. Touch “START”.
CAUTION:
Do not touch steering wheel while adjusting steering angle
sensor.
5. After approximately 10 seconds, touch “END”. (After approxi-
mately 60 seconds, it ends automatically.)
6. Turn ignition switch OFF, then turn it ON again.
CAUTION:
Be sure to perform above operation.
7. Run vehicle with front wheels in straight-ahead position, then
stop.
8. Select “DATA MONITOR”, “ECU INPUT SIGNALS”, and “STR ANGLE SIG” on CONSULT-II screen. Then
make sure “STR ANGLE SIG” is within 0±2.5°. If value is more than specification, repeat steps 1 to 7.
9. Erase memory of ABS actuator and electric unit (control unit) and ECM. ABS actuator and electric unit
(control unit): Refer to BRC-24, "
ERASE MEMORY" . ECM: Refer to EC-90, "TROUBLE DIAGNOSIS"
(VQ35DE), EC-792, "TROUBLE DIAGNOSIS" (VK45DE).
10. Turn ignition switch OFF.

PRECAUTIONS FOR DIAGNOSIS

Before performing diagnosis, always read General Information (GI) to confirm general precautions. Refer
to GI-4, "
General Precautions" .

If steering angle sensor, steering system parts, suspension system parts, ABS actuator and electric unit
(control unit) or tires have been replaced, or if wheel alignment has been adjusted, be sure to adjust neu-
tral position of steering angle sensor before driving. Refer to BRC-6, "
Adjustment of Steering Angle Sen-
sor Neutral Position" .

After diagnosis is finished, be sure to erase memory. Refer to BRC-24, "ERASE MEMORY" .

When checking continuity and voltage between unit, be sure to check for disconnection, looseness, bend,
or collapse of connector terminals. If any malfunction is found, repair or replace connector terminals.

For intermittent symptoms, possible cause is malfunction in harness, harness connector, or terminals.
Move harness, harness connector, and terminals to check for poor connections.

If a circuit tester is used for the check, be careful not to forcibly extend any connector terminal.

The following symptoms may be caused by normal operations.

mometer. When checking speed meter etc. With a 2-wheel-drive chassis dyna-
mometer, vehicle speed is not increased by pressing down on the
accelerator.
ABS operation
(Longer stopping distance)On roads with low friction, such as snowy roads or gravel roads, vehi-
cles with ABS may require a longer stopping distance. Therefore,
when driving on such roads, avoid overconfidence and keep speed
sufficiently low.Normal
Insufficient feeling of accelerationDepending on road conditions, driver may feel that feeling of acceler-
ation is insufficient. This is because traction control, which controls
engine and brakes to achieve optimal traction, has the highest priority
(for safety). As a result, there may be times when acceleration is
slightly less than usual for the same accelerator pedal operation.Normal

3. CHECK STEERING ANGLE SENSOR HARNESS
1. Check CAN communication system. Refer to BRC-48, "
CAN Communication Circuit" .
2. Turn ignition switch OFF and disconnect steering angle sensor connector.
3. Check continuity between steering angle sensor harness con-
nector M47 terminal 2 and ground.
4. Turn ignition switch ON and check voltage between steering
angle sensor harness connector M47 terminal 3 and ground.
OK or NG
OK >> GO TO 4.
NG >>

Repair or replace malfunctioning components.

Perform the self-diagnosis, and make sure that the
result shows “NO DTC IS DETECTED”.
4. CHECK DATA MONITOR
1. Turn ignition switch OFF and connect the steering angle sensor connector and ABS actuator and electric
unit (control unit) connector.
2. Select “STR ANGLE SIG” in “DATA MONITOR” and check steering angle sensor signal.
OK or NG
OK >> Perform self-diagnosis.
NG >>

Replace spiral cable (steering angle sensor) and adjust neutral position of steering angle sen-
sor. Refer to BRC-6, "
Adjustment of Steering Angle Sensor Neutral Position" .

Perform the self-diagnosis, and make sure that the result shows “NO DTC IS DETECTED”.

7. Remove ABS actuator and electric unit (control unit) from vehicle.
INSTALLATION
Installation is the reverse order of removal.

When replacing ABS actuator and electric unit (control unit), make sure to adjust neutral position of
steering angle sensor. Refer to BRC-6, "

REMOVAL
1. Remove spiral cable assembly. Refer to SRS-44, "SPIRAL CABLE" .
2. Remove steering angle sensor from spiral cable assembly.
INSTALLATION
Installation is the reverse order of removal.
CAUTION:
After work, make sure to adjust neutral position of steering angle sensor. Refer to BRC-6, "
Adjustment
of Steering Angle Sensor Neutral Position" .

INSTALLATION

Installation is the reverse order of the removal. For tightening torque, refer to FAX-5, "COMPONENT" .

Perform the final tightening of each of parts under unladen conditions, which were removed when remov-
ing wheel hub and bearing assembly and steering knuckle. Check the wheel alignment. Refer to FSU-6,
"Wheel Alignment Inspection" (2WD), FSU-24, "Wheel Alignment Inspection" (AWD).

Adjust neutral position of steering angle sensor after checking the wheel alignment. Refer to BRC-6,
"Adjustment of Steering Angle Sensor Neutral Position" .

Check wheel sensor harness for proper connection. Refer to BRC-54, "WHEEL SENSOR" .

Assemble disc rotor and wheel hub and bearing assembly by
aligning each matching mark as shown in the figure when install-
ing disc rotor.
NOTE:
Refer to BR-27, "
DISC ROTOR INSPECTION" , for assembly
when removing disc rotor without matching mark.

2. Start engine and rev it up and make sure there are no fuel leaks at the fuel system tube and hose connec-
tions.

After removing/installing rear suspension assembly, make sure to adjust wheel alignment and then, adjust
neutral position of steering angle sensor. Refer to RSU-5, "
Wheel Alignment Inspection" and BRC-6,
"Adjustment of Steering Angle Sensor Neutral Position" .

Never use this function but on VDC side.
Notes on Steering Angle Sensor (Neutral Point) Adjustment

Be sure to adjust steering angle sensor neutral point before driving if any of the following has been
removed/installed or replaced: Steering angle sensor; Steering system part, Suspension system part.

On vehicle with VDC, perform steering angle sensor neutral point adjustment only on VDC side. Never
perform the adjustment on ADAPTIVE LIGHT side as this may lead to VDC malfunctions. If the adjust-
ment has been performed on AFS side, readjust on VDC side. For steering angle sensor neutral point
adjustment procedures on VDC side, refer to BRC-6, "
Adjustment of Steering Angle Sensor Neutral Posi-
tion" in “ON-VEHICLE SERVICE”.

When replaced steering angle sensor, AFS control unit detects “DTC B2515 ST ANG SEN SIG”. Delete
the malfunction history after adjust steering angle sensor on VDC side.

Steering angle sensor neutral point adjustment should be performed using CONSULT-II. (The adjustment
will not be possible without CONSULT-II.)
Operation Procedure
Refer to BRC-6, "Adjustment of Steering Angle Sensor Neutral Position" .

1. Set the vehicle in unload condition. (Removal all loads in driver, passenger and trunk rooms.)
2. Touch “ADAPTIVE LIGHT” on “SELECT SYSTEM” screen.
3. Touch “WORK SUPPORT” on “SELECT DIAG MODE” screen.
4. Touch “LEVELIZER ADJUSTMENT”.
5. Touch “START”.
6. “ADJUSTMENT COMPLETE” will be displayed.
CAUTION:
When “CAN NOT BE TESTED” is displayed, AFS control unit stops levelizer adjustment as it
detected the change of height sensor signal. AFS control unit detects “DTC B2519 LEVELIZER
CALIB”.

1. Start engine and turn lighting switch to 2ND position.
2. Select “ADAPTIVE LIGHT” on CONSULT-II. Select “ACTIVE
TEST” on “SELECT DIAG MODE” screen.
3. Select “LOW BEAM TEST RIGHT” or “LOW BEAM TEST LEFT”
on “SELECT TEST ITEM” screen.
4. Touch “ORIGIN–FAST/SLOW” and “PEAK–FAST/SLOW”
screen.
5. Make sure of swivel operation.
OK or NG
OK >> GO TO 2.
NG >>

When interference or poor fitment is found, perform aiming adjustment. Refer to LT- 7 2 , "Aiming
Adjustment" . If it is normal, replace headlamp. Refer to LT- 1 9 1 , "Removal and Installation of
Front Combination Lamp" .

When the operation range is irregular, perform aiming adjustment. Refer to LT- 7 2 , "Aiming
Adjustment" . If it is normal, GO TO 3.
2. CHECK STEERING ANGLE SENSOR
Check “STR ANGLE SIG” in “Data Monitor” when driving straight
and steering turn 90° to right or left.
OK or NG
OK >> GO TO 3.
NG >>

When steering is out of range while driving straight, perform steering angle sensor adjustment.
Refer to BRC-6, "
Adjustment of Steering Angle Sensor Neutral Position" in “ON-VEHICLE
SERVICE”.

When the function is normal while driving straight but the displayed value is different from
actual steering position with turning to right or left, replace steering angle sensor. Refer to LT-
191, "Removal and Installation of Steering Angle Sensor" .
