equipped with 4WD before it is placed on a
dynamometer. Using the wrong test equip-
ment may result in drivetrain damage or un-
expected vehicle movement which could re-
sult in serious vehicle damage or personal
injury.
•When a wheel is off the ground due to an
uneven surface, do not spin the wheel
excessively.
CAUTION
Never tow the vehicle with one axle raised. This
may damage the differential. Damage of this
sort is not covered by the warranty. All wheels
must be fully raised (seeFour-Wheel Drive
(4WD) models in the6. In case of emergency
section)
4WD, together with VDC, improves the traction
of your vehicle whenever a drive wheel spins
due to insufficient grip.
If you fail to adapt your driving style, 4WD can
neither reduce the risk of an accident nor
override the laws of physics. 4WD cannot take
account of road, weather, and traffic conditions.
4WD is only an aid. You are responsible for the
distance to the vehicle in front, for vehicle speed, for braking in good time, and for staying
in lane.
If a drive wheel spins due to insufficient grip
•When pulling away, only depress the accel-
erator pedal as far as is necessary.
•Accelerate less when driving.
NOTE
In wintry driving conditions, the maximum effec-
tiveness of 4WD can only be achieved if you use
winter tires (M+S tires), with snow chains if nec-
essary.
WARNING
•Do not stop or park the vehicle over flam-
mable materials such as dry grass, waste
paper or rags. They may ignite and cause a
fire.
•Safe parking procedures require that both
the parking brake be applied and the P
(Park) position engaged. Failure to do so
could cause the vehicle to move unexpect-
edly or roll away and result in an accident.
•When parking the vehicle, make sure the P
(Park) position is engaged. The shift lever
cannot be moved out of the P (Park) position
without depressing the brake pedal.
•Never leave the engine running while the
vehicle is unattended.
•To help avoid risk of injury or death through
unintended operation of the vehicle and/or
its systems, do not leave children, people
who require the assistance of others, or
pets unattended in your vehicle. Addition-
ally, the temperature inside a closed vehicle
on a warm day can quickly become high
enough to cause a significant risk of injury
or death to people and pets.
PARKING
5-84Starting and driving
Steering gear and linkage, axle and suspension
parts, drive shaft boots:
Check for damage, looseness, and leakage of
oil or grease. Under severe driving conditions,
inspect more frequently
Tire rotation:
Tires should be rotated every 6,000 miles
(10,000 km) for 2WD, every 3000 miles (5000
km) for 4WD/AWD according to the instructions
underTire rotation* earlier in this section“Ge-
neral maintenance” in this section. When rotat-
ing tires, check for damage and uneven wear.
Replace if necessary.
Transmission fluid/oil, differential oil, transfer
case oil:
Visually inspect for signs of leakage at specified
intervals. To ensure smooth, trouble-free, safe and eco-
nomical driving, INFINITI provides two mainte-
nance schedules that may be used, depending
upon the conditions in which you usually drive.
These schedules contain both distance and
time intervals, up to 120,000 miles (192,000
km)/144 months. For most people, the odom-
eter reading will indicate when service is
needed. However, if you drive very little, your
vehicle should be serviced at the regular time
intervals shown in the schedule.
After 120,000 miles (192,000 km)/144 months,
continue maintenance at the same mileage/time
intervals.
ADDITIONAL MAINTENANCE ITEMS
FOR SEVERE OPERATING SYSTEMS
Additional maintenance items for severe oper-
ating conditions; should be performed on ve-
hicles that are driven under especially demand-
ing conditions. Additional maintenance items
should be performed if you primarily operate
your vehicle under the following conditions:
•Repeated short trips of less than 5 miles in
normal temperatures or less than 10 miles in
freezing temperatures.
•Stop-and-go traffic in hot weather or low
speed driving for long distances.
•Driving in dusty conditions or on rough,
muddy or salt-spread roads.
•Towing a trailer, or using a camper or car-top
carrier.
OIL CHANGE MONITOR
This vehicle is equipped with oil change moni-
tor. It calculates engine oil and filter change
interval base on driving conditions. Driving in
severe conditions will shorten the engine oil
and filter change interval. When the Engine Oil
– Service Due Now warning appears in the
vehicle information display, the engine oil and
filter need to be replaced.
NOTE
For vehicles operated in Canada, both standard
and severe maintenance items should be per-
formed at every interval.
MAINTENANCE SERVICE MESSAGES
The maintenance service interval display in-
forms you of the next service due date.
NOTE
The maintenance service interval display does
not show any information on the engine oil level.
