RCTA SYSTEM LIMITATIONSWARNING
Listed below are the system limitations for
the RCTA system. Failure to operate the
vehicle in accordance with these system
limitations could result in serious injury or
death. •
Always check surroundings and turn to
check what is behind you before backing
up. The radar sensors detect approach-
ing (moving) vehicles. The radar sensors
cannot detect every object such as:
– Pedestrians, bicycles, motorcycles,
animals or child-operated toy ve-
hicles
– A vehicle that is passing at speeds
greater than approximately 19 mph
(30 km/h)
– A vehicle that is passing at speeds
lower than approximately 5 mph (8
km/h)
• The radar sensors may not detect ap-
proaching vehicles in certain situations:
– Illustration
OA: When a vehicle
parked next to you obstructs the
beam of the radar sensor.
– Illustration
OB: When the vehicle is
parked in an angled parking space.
– Illustration
OC: When the vehicle is
parked on inclined ground.
– Illustration
OD: When an approaching
vehicle turns into your vehicle's park-
ing lot aisle.
– Illustration
OE: When the angle
formed by your vehicle and ap-
proaching vehicle is small

WARNING
Failure to follow the warnings and instruc-
tions for proper use of the RAB system
could result in serious injury or death.
• The RAB system is a supplemental aid to
the driver. It is not a replacement for
proper driving procedures. Always use
the side and rear mirrors and turn and
look in the direction you will move before
and while backing up. Never rely solely
on the RAB system. It is the driver’s re-
sponsibility to stay alert, drive safely,
and be in control of the vehicle at all
times.
• There is a limitation to the RAB system
capability. The RAB system is not effec-
tive in all situations.
• Inclement weather or ultrasonic sources
such as an automatic car wash, a truck’s
compressed-air brakes or a pneumatic
drill may affect the function of the sys-
tem; this may include reduced perfor-
mance or a false activation.
The RAB system can assist the driver when
the vehicle is backing up and approaching
objects directly behind the vehicle. The RAB system detects obstacles behind
the vehicle using the parking sensors
O1lo-
cated on the rear bumper.
NOTE:
You can temporarily cancel the sonar func-
tion and the RAB system in the vehicle. For
additional information, see “Front and Rear
Sonar System” (P. 5-172).

–Low objects
– Narrow objects
– Wedge-shaped objects
– Objects close to the bumper (less than
approximately 1 ft [30 cm])
– Objects that suddenly appear
– Thin objects such as rope, wire, chain,
etc.
• The RAB system may not operate for the
following obstacles:
– Obstacles located high off the ground
– Obstacles in a position offset from
your vehicle
– Obstacles, such as spongy materials
or snow, that have soft outer sur-
faces and can easily absorb a sound
wave
• The RAB system may not operate in the
following conditions:
– There is rain, snow, ice, dirt, etc., at-
tached to the sonar sensors.
– A loud sound is heard in the area
around the vehicle.
– The surface of the obstacle is diago-
nal to the rear of the vehicle. •
The RAB system may unintentionally op-
erate in the following conditions:
– There is overgrown grass in the area
around the vehicle.
– There is a structure (e.g., a wall, toll
gate equipment, a narrow tunnel, a
parking lot gate) near the side of the
vehicle.
– There are bumps, protrusions, or
manhole covers on the road surface.
– The vehicle drives through a draped
flag or a curtain.
– There is an accumulation of snow or
ice behind the vehicle.
– An ultrasonic wave source, such as
another vehicle’s sonar, is near the
vehicle.
• Once the automatic brake control oper-
ates, it does not operate again if the ve-
hicle approaches the same obstacle.
• The automatic brake control can only
operate for a short period of time. There-
fore, the driver must depress the brake
pedal.
• In the following situations, the RAB sys-
tem may not operate properly or may not
function sufficiently:
– The vehicle is driven in bad weather
(rain, fog, snow, etc.). –
The vehicle is driven on a steep hill.
– The vehicle’s posture is changed (e.g.,
when driving over a bump).
– The vehicle is driven on a slippery
road.
– The vehicle is turned sharply by turn-
ing the steering wheel fully.
– Snow chains are used.
– Wheels or tires other than INFINITI
recommended are used.
– The brakes are cold at low ambient
temperatures or immediately after
driving has started.
– The braking force becomes poor due
to wet brakes after driving through a
puddle or washing the vehicle.
• Turn the RAB system off in the following
conditions to prevent the occurrence of
an unexpected activatioin resulting from
sudden system operation:
– The vehicle is towed.
– The vehicle is carried on a flatbed
truck.
– The vehicle is on the chassis
dynamometer.
– The

vehicle drives on an uneven road
surface.

–The vehicle is towing an object (if so
equipped).
– Suspension parts other than those
designated as Genuine INFINITI
parts are used. (If the vehicle height
or the vehicle body inclination is
changed, the system may not detect
an obstacle correctly.)
– If the vehicle is using an accessory like
a bike rack, or cargo carrier that
blocks the sensors.
• Excessive noise (e.g., audio system vol-
ume, an open vehicle window) will inter-
fere with the chime sound, and it may not
be heard.
SYSTEM MALFUNCTION
If the RAB system malfunctions, it will be
turned off automatically, the RAB system
warning light will illuminate, and the “Mal-
function” warning message will appear in the
vehicle information display.
Action to take
If the warning light illuminates, park the ve-
hicle in a safe location, turn the engine off,
and restart the engine. If the warning light
continues to illuminate, have the RAB system
checked. It is recommended that you visit an
INFINITI retailer for this service.
NOTE:
If the RAB system cannot be operated tem-
porarily, the RAB system warning light
blinks.
SYSTEM MAINTENANCE
Observe the following items to ensure proper
operation of the system:
• Always keep the parking sensors
O1clean.
• If the parking sensors are dirty, wipe them off with a soft cloth while being careful to
not damage them.
• Do not subject the area around the parking sensors
O1to strong impact. Also, do not
remove or disassemble the parking sensors.
If the parking sensors and peripheral areas
are deformed in an accident, etc., have the
sensors checked. It is recommended that
you visit an INFINITI retailer for this service.

When the vehicle is stopped on a hill, the hill
start assist system automatically keeps the
brakes applied to help prevent the vehicle
from rolling backward in the time it takes the
driver to release the brake pedal and apply
the accelerator.
The hill start assist system will operate auto-
matically under the following conditions:
• The transmission is shifted to a forward orreverse gear.
• The vehicle is stopped completely on a hill by applying the brake. The maximum hold-
ing time is 2 seconds. After 2 seconds the
vehicle will begin to roll back and the hill
start assist system will stop operating
completely.
The hill start assist system will not operate
when the shift position is placed in the N
(Neutral) or P (Park) position or on a flat and
level road. The sonar system sounds a tone to inform the
driver of obstacles around the vehicle using
the sonar sensors located in the front and
rear bumpers..
When the sonar system is turned on, the
sonar view will automatically appear in the
vehicle information display.
WARNING
• The sonar system is a convenience but it
is not a substitute for proper parking. •
The driver is always responsible for
safety during parking and other maneu-
vers. Always look around and check that
it is safe to do so before parking.
• Read and understand the limitations of
the sonar system as contained in this
section. The colors of the corner sonar
indicator indicates different distances to
the object.
• Inclement weather or ultrasonic sources
such as an automatic car wash, a truck's
compressed-air brakes or a pneumatic
drill may affect the function of the sys-
tem; this may include reduced perfor-
mance or a false activation.
• The sonar system is designed as an aid to
the driver in detecting large stationary
objects to help avoid damaging the
vehicle.
• The sonar system is not designed to pre-
vent contact with small or moving ob-
jects. Always move slowly. The system
will not detect small objects below the
bumper, and may not detect objects
close to the bumper or on the ground.
• The sonar system may not detect the fol-
lowing objects: fluffy objects such as
snow, cloth, cotton, glass, wool, etc.;
thin objects such as rope, wire and chain,
etc.; or wedge-shaped objects.

HOW TO ENABLE/DISABLE THE
FRONT AND REAR SONAR
SYSTEM
The system is automatically activated when
the push button ignition is placed in the ON
position and the shift lever is in the R (Re-
verse) position.
Perform the following steps to enable or dis-
able the sonar system:
1. Press the
button until “Settings” ap-
pears in the vehicle information display
and then press OK. Use the scroll dial to
select “Driver Assistance.” Then press the
OK button.
2. Select “Parking Aids” and press the OK button.
• Select “Auto Show Sonar” and press the OK button to turn on or off the option to
automatically display the sonar when
activated.
• Select “Front Sonar” (if so equipped) and press the OK button to turn the front
sonar sensors only on or off.
• Select “Rear Sonar” and press the OK button to turn the rear sonar sensors
only on or off.
• Select “Sonar Distance” to change the sonar system volume to “Long,” Me-
dium” or “Short.”
• Select “Sonar Volume” to change the sonar system distance to “High,” “Me-
dium” or “Low.”

•When using a wheel without TPMS such
as the spare tire, the TPMS will not func-
tion and the low tire pressure warning
light will flash for approximately 1 min-
ute. The light will remain on after 1 min-
ute. Have your tires replaced and/or
TPMS system reset as soon as possible.
It is recommended that you visit an
INFINITI retailer for these services.
• Replacing tires with those not originally
specified by INFINITI could affect the
proper operation of the TPMS.
• Do not inject any tire liquid or aerosol tire
sealant into the tires, as this may cause a
malfunction of the tire pressure sensors.
CHANGING A FLAT TIRE
If you have a flat tire, follow the instructions
below:
Stopping the vehicle
1. Safely move the vehicle off the road and away from traffic.
2. Turn on the hazard warning flashers.
3. Park on a level surface and apply the park- ing brake. Push the park button to shift to
the P (Park) position.
4. Turn off the engine. 5. Raise the hood to warn other traffic and
to signal professional road assistance
personnel that you need assistance.
6. Have all passengers get out of the vehicle and stand in a safe place, away from traf-
fic and clear of the vehicle.
WARNING
• Make sure the parking brake is securely
applied and the shift position is placed in
the P (Park) position.
• Never change tires when the vehicle is on
a slope, ice or slippery areas. This is
hazardous.
• Never change tires if oncoming traffic is
close to your vehicle. Wait for profes-
sional road assistance.
Blocking wheels
Place suitable blocks at both the front and
back of the wheel diagonally opposite the flat
tire to prevent the vehicle from moving when
it is jacked up.
WARNING
Be sure to block the wheel as the vehicle
may move and result in personal injury.
