nance and safety information about your new vehicle. It is sup-
plemented by a Warranty and Consumer Information manual
that provides important information on all warranties regarding
your vehicle. If your vehicle is equipped with an audio system,
you will also have a Kia Integrated Audio System manual
explaining its operation. We urge you to read these publica-
tions carefully and follow the recommendations to help assure
enjoyable and safe operation of your new vehicle.

Therefore, the equipment described in this manual, along with
the various illustrations, may not all be applicable to your par-
ticular vehicle.

ACC position twice. Perform the same
procedure for the next digits between 3
seconds and 10 seconds (for example,
for “3”, turn the ignition ON and ACC 3
times).
4. If all of the digits have been input suc- cessfully, you have to start the engine
within 10 seconds. If you attempt to
start the engine after 10 seconds, the
engine will not start and you will have
to input your password again.
After performing the limp home proce-
dure, you have to see an authorized Kia
dealer immediately to inspect and repair
your ignition key or immobilizer system. This device complies with Industry
Canada Standard RSS-210.
Operation is subject to the following two
conditions:
1. This device may not cause interfer-
ence, and
2. This device must accept any interfer- ence, including interference that may
cause undesired operation of the
device.
CAUTION
The transponder in your ignitionkey is an important part of the immobilizer system. It is designedto give years of trouble free service,however you should avoid expo- sure to moisture, static electricityand rough handling. Immobilizer system malfunction could occur.
CAUTION
Do not change, alter or adjust theimmobilizer system because it could cause the immobilizer sys-tem to malfunction and should onlybe serviced by an authorized Kia dealer.
Malfunctions caused by improperalterations, adjustments or modifi-cations to the immobilizer system are not covered by your vehiclemanufacturer warranty.
CAUTION
If you cannot start your engine in spite of limp home procedure, haveyour vehicle towed by an author- ized Kia dealer for inspection andnecessary repairs.

Safety belt restraint system
We strongly recommend that the driver
and all passengers be properly
restrained at all times by using the safety
belts provided with the vehicle. Proper
use of the safety belts decreases the risk
of severe injury or death in accidents or
sudden stops. In most states, and in
Canada, the law requires their use.
All seats have lap/shoulder belts. Inertial
locks in the safety belt retractors allow all
of the lap/shoulder safety belts to remain
unlocked during normal vehicle opera-
tion. This allows the occupants some
freedom of movement and increased
comfort while using the safety belts. If a
force is applied to the vehicle, such as a
strong stop, a sharp turn, or a collision,
the safety belt retractors will automatical-
ly lock the safety belts.
WARNING
 Do not strike the pre-tensioner
seat belt assemblies.
 Do not attempt to service or repair the pre-tensioner seat belt
system in any manner.
 Improper handling of the pre-ten- sioner seat belt assemblies, and
failure to heed the warnings not
to strike, modify, inspect, place,
service or repair the pre-tension-
er seat belt assemblies may lead
to improper operation or inadver-
tent activation causing serious
injury.
Always wear the seat belts
when driving or riding in a motor
vehicle.
WARNING
- Safety belts
To minimize the risk of serious or
fatal injury in an accident, the driv-
er and all passengers should use
the appropriate safety restraints for
their age and size. The presence of
air bags does not change the need
to be properly restrained by a safe-
ty belt or size-appropriate child
restraint. In fact, air bags are
designed to work the best when
passengers are correctly restrained
in the vehicle. Be sure you are
familiar with the information in this
section, including the information
on infant and child restraints. Read
the safety warnings on the sun
visors of your vehicle also.

In the case that you’d like to
know the average vehicle
speed (AVS).
Please select the mode of average vehi-
cle speed by adjusting [TRIP] button,
mode transition function key of the con-
centration key.

The average vehicle speed is displayed
from switch on the ignition to the pres-
ent in the display part of trip information.
The average vehicle speed initializes when ACC is OFF status.
The average vehicle speed is displayed by ‘---’ when ACC becomes on in off
status.
It shows average vehicle speed from engine ON.
Average vehicle speed range is 0~250km/h(0~154 MPH) and the value
is updated every 1 second. The average speed includes the time
the car is stopped (0Km/h).
If [RESET] button in the concentration keys is pressed more than one second,
the average vehicle speed until the
present becomes 0 km/h and the aver-
age speed is recalculated again from
the current.

In the case that you’d like to
know the average fuel con-
sumption (AFC).
Please select the mode of average fuel
consumption rate by adjusting [TRIP]
button, mode transition function key of
the concentration key.
[Mode screen of average fuel consump-
tion] The figure that is displayed in the dis-
play part of trip information displays
average consuming amount of fuel.
Average fuel consumption mode dis- plays average fuel amount to be con-
sumed when the vehicle is driving in
100 km.
The display range of the average fuel consumption is from 0.0 to 99.9 L/100
and the change amount of fuel is dis- played in the screen per second.
If [RESET] button of concentration key is pressed more than one second, the
average fuel is initialized into 0.0L/100
and the average fuel consumption is
displayed again after driving from the
present to the point of view running 0.5
km.
The average fuel consumption could increase because the driving distance
is short during the stop of driving, but
the normal fuel rate is displayed if you
continue to drive.
The average fuel consumption displays the previous value if ACC is on again in
off status of ACC.

In case that you’d like to know
driving time (DT).
Please select the mode of driving time by
adjusting [TRIP] button, mode transition
function key of the concentration key.

The figure that is displayed in the dis-play part of trip information displays
driving time until the present.
The range displayed driving time is from 0:00 to 99:59 and driving time is
accumulated from 0:00 again when
driving time is beyond 99:59.
The driving time is displayed by ‘---’ when ACC becomes on in off status.
If [RESET] button of concentration key is pressed more than one second, the
driving time is initialized into 0:00 and
the driving time is accumulated again
from the current.

adjust the clock and the calen-
dar
To adjust clock & calendar, push [CLOCK
MODE] button briefly on the concentra-
tion key.

This is always displayed after ACC ison.
Push [CLOCK MODE]to change mode. ‘HOUR’➟ ‘MINUTE’➟ ‘MONTH’➟‘DAY’
light up every 0.5 second.
If [CLOCK MODE] button is pressed, time can be set up and change with the
part of hour flicker in the same time. In
this time, please set up the change of
time by using [ ], [ ] buttons of
concentration key. In order to set up minute after seting up
hour, please press [CLOCK MODE]
button. The method to changing the
minute like that of changing the hour is
to set up by using [ ], [ ] of con-
centration key.
When ‘DAY’ blinks, push [CLOCK MODE] to cancel time adjust mode
and time setting is finished.
The adjustment mode will be canceled when you press the CLOCK SET but-
ton. The 'second' will start from ‘0’.
The other buttons are not operated within ten seconds after [CLOCK
MODE] button is pressed, modified
mode is dismissed.
If [ ], [ ] buttons of the concentra- tion key have been pressed for more
two seconds [ ], [ ] buttons
become FAST COUNT.

Driving your vehicle
Air conditioning system opera-
tion tips If the vehicle has been parked in directsunlight during hot weather, open the
windows for a short time to let the hot
air inside the vehicle escape.
To help reduce moisture inside of the windows on rainy humid days,
decrease the humidity inside the vehi-
cle by operating the air conditioning
system.
During air conditioning system opera- tion, you may occasionally notice a
slight change in the engine speed as
the air conditioning compressor cycles
on. This is a normal system operation
characteristics.
Use the air conditioning system every month only for a few minutes to ensure
maximum system performance.
When using the air conditioning sys- tem, you may notice clear water drip-
ping (or even pudding) on the ground
under the passenger side of the vehi-
cle. This is a normal system operation
characteristics. Operating the air conditioning system
in the recirculated air position does
provide maximum cooling, however,
continual operation in this mode may
cause the air inside the vehicle to
become stale.
Checking the amount of air con-
ditioner refrigerant and compres-
sor lubricantWhen the amount of refrigerant is low,
the performance of the air conditioning is
reduced. Overfilling also has a bad influ-
ence on the air conditioning system.
Therefore, if abnormal operation is
found, have the system inspected by an
authorized Kia dealer.
CAUTION
When the performance of the airconditioning system is reduced it isimportant that the correct type and amount of oil and refrigerant isused. Otherwise, damage to thecompressor and abnormal systemoperation may occur.
CAUTION
When using the air conditioningsystem, monitor the temperature gauge closely while driving up hillsor in heavy traffic when outsidetemperatures are high. Air condi- tioning system operation maycause engine overheating.Continue to use the blower fan but turn the air conditioning system offif the temperature gauge indicates engine overheating.
WARNING
The air conditioning system should
be serviced by an authorized Kia
dealer. Improper service may cause
serious injury to the person per-
forming the service.

5TRAILER TOWING

Pulling a trailer improperly can damage
your vehicle and result in costly repairs
not covered by your warranty. To pull a
trailer correctly, follow the advice in this
section.
Your vehicle can tow a trailer. To identify
what the vehicle trailering capacity is for
your vehicle, you should read the infor-
mation in “Weight of the Trailer ”that
appears later in this section. Remember
that trailering is different than just driving
your vehicle by itself. Trailering means
changes in handling, durability, and fuel
economy. Successful, safe trailering
requires correct equipment, and it has to
be used properly.
This section contains many time-tested,
important trailering tips and safety rules.
Many of these are important for your
safety and that of your passengers.
Please read this section carefully before
you pull a trailer.
WARNING
- Towing a trail- er
If you don't use the correct equip-
ment and drive properly, you can
lose control when you pull a trailer.
For example, if the trailer is too
heavy, the brakes may not work well
- or even at all. You and your pas-
sengers could be seriously or fatal-
ly injured. Pull a trailer only if you
have followed all the steps in this
section.

5Following distance Stay at least twice as far behind the vehi-
cle ahead as you would when driving
your vehicle without a trailer. This can
help you avoid situations that require
heavy braking and sudden turns.Passing Yo u ’ll need more passing distance up
ahead when you’ re towing a trailer. And,
because you’ re a good deal longer, you’ll
need to go much farther beyond the
passed vehicle before you can return to
your lane.
Backing up Hold the bottom of the steering wheel
with one hand. Then, to move the trailer
to the left, just move your hand to the left.
To move the trailer to the right, move your
hand to the right. Always back up slowly
and, if possible, have someone guide
you.Making turns When you’ re turning with a trailer, make
wider turns than normal. Do this so your
trailer won’t strike soft shoulders, curbs,
road signs, trees, or other objects. Avoid
jerky or sudden maneuvers. Signal well
in advance.
Turn signals when towing a trailer When you tow a trailer, your vehicle has
to have a different turn signal flasher and
extra wiring. The green arrows on your
instrument panel will flash whenever you
signal a turn or lane change. Properly
connected, the trailer lights will also flash
to alert other drivers you ’re about to turn,
change lanes, or stop.
When towing a trailer, the green arrows
on your instrument panel will flash for
turns even if the bulbs on the trailer are
burned out. Thus, you may think drivers
behind you are seeing your signals
when, in fact, they are not. It ’s important
to check occasionally to be sure the trail-
er bulbs are still working. You must also
check the lights every time you discon-
nect and then reconnect the wires.
Do not connect a trailer lighting system
directly to your vehicle’ s lighting system.
Use only an approved trailer wiring har-
ness.
Your Authorized Kia Dealer can assist
you in installing the wiring harness.
