To vary the speed setting, turn the speed control knob (1).
If the wiper switch is set in AUTO mode
when the ignition switch is ON, the wiper
will operate once to perform a self-check
of the system. Set the wiper to OFF (O)

Windshield washers
In the OFF (0) position, pull the lever
gently toward you to spray washer fluid
on the windshield and to run the wipers
1-3 cycles. Use this function when the windshield is
dirty.
The spray and wiper operation will con-
tinue until you release the lever.
If the washer does not work, check the
washer fluid level. If the fluid level is not
sufficient, you will need to add appropri-
ate non-abrasive windshield washer fluid
to the washer reservoir.
The reservoir filler neck is located in the
front of the engine compartment on the
passenger side.
CAUTION
When the ignition switch is ON and
the windshield wiper switch isplaced in the AUTO mode, use cau-
tion in the following situations toavoid any injury to the hands orother parts of the body:
Do not touch the upper end of the windshield glass facing the rain
sensor.
Do not wipe the upper end of the windshield glass with a damp orwet cloth.
Do not put pressure on the wind- shield glass.
CAUTION
When washing the vehicle, set thewiper switch in the OFF (O) position
to stop the auto wiper operation.
The wiper may operate and be dam-aged if the switch is set in the AUTOmode while washing the vehicle.
Do not remove the sensor coverlocated on the upper end of the pas-senger side windshield glass.Damage to system parts could occur and may not be covered by
your vehicle warranty.
When starting the vehicle in winter,set the wiper switch in the OFF (O) position. Otherwise, wipers mayoperate and ice may damage the
windshield wiper blades. Alwaysremove all snow and ice and defrostthe windshield properly prior tooperating the windshield wipers.
CAUTION
To prevent possible damage to thewasher pump, do not operate the washer when the fluid reservoir isempty.

Mode selection
The mode selection knob controls the
direction of the air flow through the venti-lation system.
Air can be directed to the floor, dash-
board outlets, or windshield. Six symbols
are used to represent MAX A/C, Face,
Bi-Level, Floor, Floor-Defrost and Defrostair position. The MAX A/C mode is used to cool the
inside of the vehicle faster.
MAX A/C-Level (B, C, D, E, F)
Air flow is directed toward the upper body
and face.
In this mode, the air conditioning and the recirculated air position will be selected
automatically.
To improve the effectiveness of cooling, a small amount of air is directed to the
floor.
Face-Level (B, C, D, E, F)
Air flow is directed toward the upper body
and face. Additionally, each outlet can becontrolled to direct the air dischargedfrom the outlet.
Bi-Level (B, D, E, C, F)
Air flow is directed towards the face and
the floor.
Floor-Level (C, A, D, E)
Most of the air flow is directed to the
floor, with a small amount of the air beingdirected to the windshield and side win-
dow defrosters.
Floor/Defrost-Level (A, C, D, E)
Most of the air flow is directed to the floor and the windshield with a small amount
directed to the side window defrosters.
Defrost-Level (A, D)
Most of the air flow is directed to thewindshield with a small amount of air
directed to the side window defrosters.

Manual heating and air condition- ing The heating and cooling system can be
controlled manually by pressing buttons
other than the AUTO button. In this case,
the system works sequentially according
to the order of buttons selected.
1. Start the engine.
2. Set the mode to the desired position.
For improving the effectiveness of heating and cooling;- Heating: - Cooling:

4. Set the air intake control to the outside (fresh) air position.
5. Set the fan speed control to the desired speed.
6. If air conditioning is desired, turn the air conditioning system on.

Aux, USB and iPod port (if equipped)
If your vehicle has an aux and/or
USB(universal serial bus) port or iPod
port, you can use an aux port to connect
audio devices and an USB port to plug in
an USB and also an iPod port to plug in
an iPod.

How vehicle audio works
AM(MW, LW) and FM radio signals are
broadcast from transmitter towers locat-
ed around your city. They are intercept-
ed by the radio antenna on your vehicle.
This signal is then received by the radio
and sent to your vehicle speakers.
When a strong radio signal has reached
your vehicle, the precise engineering of
your audio system ensures the best pos-
sible quality reproduction. However, in
some cases the signal coming to your
vehicle may not be strong and clear. This
can be due to factors such as the dis-
tance from the radio station, closeness of
other strong radio stations or the pres-
ence of buildings, bridges or other large
obstructions in the area. AM(MW, LW) broadcasts can be
received at greater distances than FM
broadcasts. This is because AM(MW,
LW) radio waves are transmitted at low
frequencies. These long, low frequency
radio waves can follow the curvature of
the earth rather than travelling straight
out into the atmosphere. In addition, they
curve around obstructions so that they
can provide better signal coverage.

Illuminated ignition switch
Whenever a front door is opened, the
ignition switch will illuminate for your con-
venience, provided the ignition switch is
not in the ON position. The light will go off
immediately when the ignition switch is
turned on. It will also go off after about 30seconds when the door is closed. Ignition switch position

LOCK
The steering wheel locks to protect
against theft. The ignition key can be
removed only in the LOCK position.
When turning the ignition switch to the
LOCK position, push the key inward at
the ACC position and turn the key towardthe LOCK position.

When you intend to park or stop the vehicle with the engine on, be careful not to depress the accel-
erator pedal for a long period of
time. It may overheat the engine
or exhaust system and cause fire.
When you make a sudden stop or turn the steering wheel rapidly,
loose objects may drop on the
floor and it could interfere with
the operation of the foot pedals,
possibly causing an accident.
Keep all things in the vehicle
safely stored.
If you do not focus on driving, it may cause an accident. Be care-
ful when operating what may dis-
turb driving such as audio or

Do not drive in water if the level is higher than the bottom of the vehicle.
Check your brake condition once you
are out of mud or water. Press the
brake pedal several times as you move
slowly until you feel normal braking
forces return.
Shorten your scheduled maintenance interval if you drive in off-road condi-
tions such as sand, mud or water (see
“Maintenance under severe usage
conditions” in section 7). Always wash
your vehicle thoroughly after off road
use, especially cleaning the bottom of
the vehicle.
Since the driving torque is always applied to the 4 wheels the perform-
ance of the 4WD vehicle is greatly
affected by the condition of the tires.
Be sure to equip the vehicle with four
tires of the same size and type.
A full time four wheel drive vehicle cannot be towed by an ordinary tow
truck. Make sure that the vehicle is
placed on a flat bed truck for moving.E170800AHM
Reducing the risk of a rollover
This multi-purpose passenger vehicle is
defined as a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV).
SUV’s have higher ground clearance and
a narrower track to make them capable
of performing in a wide variety of off-road
applications. Specific design characteris-
tics give them a higher center of gravity
than ordinary vehicles. An advantage of
the higher ground clearance is a better
view of the road, which allows you to
anticipate problems. They are not
designed for cornering at the same
speeds as conventional passenger vehi-
cles, any more than low-slung sports
vehicles are designed to perform satis-
factorily in off-road conditions. Due to this
risk, driver and passengers are strongly
recommended to buckle their seat belts.
In a rollover crash, an unbelted person is
more likely to die than a person wearing
a seat belt. There are steps that a driver
can make to reduce the risk of a rollover.
If at all possible, avoid sharp turns or
abrupt maneuvers, do not load your roof
rack with heavy cargo, and never modify
your vehicle in any way.
CAUTION - Mud or snow
If one of the front or rear wheels
begins to spin in mud, snow, etc.
the vehicle can sometimes be driv-en out by depressing the accelera-tor pedal further; however avoid running the engine continuously at
high rpm because doing so coulddamage the 4WD system.

CAUTION
Always check if there is anythingunder the rear part of the vehicle
before adjusting the ALS.
There may be noise heard while the ALS is adjusting the height toa mode.
Do not turn off the engine or press the switch to another modewhile the ALS is adjusting to themode selected.
Do not activate the ALS when the air filter of the compressor has
been submerged.
Inspect or replace the ALS air fil- ter and air spring according to themaintenance schedule.
Do not drive the vehicle when the air spring is damaged or airless.Have the vehicle towed with allthe wheels lifted from the ground.

(Continued) Have the vehicle checked by an authorized Kia dealer if all thelights of the ALS indicator is illu-minated.
All the lights of the ALS indicator can be illuminated when the vehi-cle was parked with one side ofthe vehicle lifted or when one
side of the vehicle was lifted witha jack. When this happens, takethe vehicle to a level ground, and turn off the engine. The ALS will
operate normally when the engineis turned on again.
