This system is designed to provide
protection from unauthorized entry
into the vehicle. This system is oper-
ated in three stages: the first is the
“Armed” stage, the second is the
“Theft-alarm” stage, and the third is
the “Disarmed” stage. If triggered,
the system provides an audible
alarm with blinking of the hazard
warning lights.
Armed stage
Park the vehicle and stop the engine.
Arm the system as described below.
1. Turn off the engine.
2. Make sure that all doors (and
trunk) and engine hood are closed
and latched.
3. Lock the doors by depressing the door lock button on the smart key.
After completion of the steps above,
the hazard warning lights will blink
(for smart key, the chime also
sounds) once to indicate that the
system is armed.
If any door (or trunk) or engine hood
remains open, the hazard warning
lights and the chime will not operate
and the theft-alarm will not arm. If all
doors and trunk and engine hood are
closed after the lock button is
pressed, the hazard warning lights
blink once. The system can also be armed by
locking the doors with the key from
the front doors; however, the hazard
warning lights will not blink using this
method.

NOTICE
The theft-alarm system can be deac-
tivated by an authorized Kia dealer.
If you want this feature, consult an
authorized Kia dealer.
Do not arm the system until all
passengers have left the vehicle. If
the system is armed while a pas-
senger(s) remains in the vehicle,
the alarm may be activated when
the remaining passenger(s) leave
the vehicle. If any door (or trunk)
or engine hood is opened within
30 seconds after the system
enters the armed stage, the sys-
tem is disarmed to prevent an
unnecessary alarm.

Theft-alarm stage
The alarm will be activated if any of
the following occurs while the system
is armed.
A front or rear door is opened with-out using the smart key.
The trunk is opened without using the smart key.
The engine hood is opened.
The horn will sound and the hazard
warning lights will blink continuously
for approximately 27 seconds, and
repeat the horn 2 times unless the
system is disarmed. To turn off the
system, unlock the doors with the
smart key.
Disarmed stage
The system will be disarmed when
The doors (and trunk) are unlocked with the smart key.
After depressing the unlock button,
the hazard warning lights will blink
and the chime will sound twice (in
smart key) to indicate that the sys-
tem is disarmed.
After depressing the unlock button, if
any door (or trunk) is not opened
within 30 seconds, the system will be
rearmed.
Avoid trying to start the engine while the alarm is activated. The
vehicle starting motor is disabled
during the theft-alarm stage.
If the system is not disarmed with
the smart key, open the doors by
using the mechanical key and start
the engine by directly pressing the
engine Start/Stop button with the
smart key.
If you lose your keys, consult your authorized Kia dealer.
✽ ✽ NOTICE
Malfunctions caused by improper
alterations, adjustments or modifi-
cations to the theft-alarm system are
not covered by your vehicle manu-
facturer warranty.
CAUTION - Adjusting
alarm system
Do not change, alter or adjust the theft-alarm system becauseit could cause the theft-alarmsystem to malfunction.

Non-Powered TrunkTo open:
1.Make sure the shift lever is in P(Park).
2.Perform one of the following : - Press the smart key trunk unlockbutton for more than one second.
- Press the button on the trunk itself with the smart key in your
possession.
- Use the mechanical key.
3.Lift the trunk lid to open.
To close:
Lower the trunk lid and press down
until it locks.
✽ ✽ NOTICE
In cold and wet climates, trunk lock
and trunk mechanisms may not
work properly due to freezing condi-
tions.

The trunk lid should always be
kept completely closed while

left open or ajar, exhaust gases
may enter the car and serious
illness or death may result.

Power TrunkThe power trunk can be opened and
closed automatically as follows.
- Power trunk main button (Type A) :
Open and close
- Smart key and trunk handle switch (Type B) : Open only
- Close button on the trunk lid (Type C) : Close only
If you depress the power trunk main
button, trunk handle button or close
button while operating the power
trunk, you could stop operating the
power trunk.
If that happens, to operate the power
trunk again, push any button or switch.Opening the trunk
The power trunk will open automati-
cally by doing one of the following:
Press the trunk open button on the smart key more than 1 second. The
chime will sound twice.
Press and hold the open button of the power trunk main switch. The
chime will sound twice.
Press the trunk handle switch car- rying the smart key with you. If all
doors have unlocked, you can
open the trunk by pressing the
trunk handle switch without the
smart key.

Closing the trunk
To close the power trunk, do one of
the following:
Push the close button of the powertrunk main button, until the power
trunk is closed securely. The chime
will sound twice.
Push the power trunk close button.
Push the power trunk lock button when all doors and engine hood
are closed with the smart key in
your possession. After closing, all
doors and trunk lock automatically.
✽ ✽ NOTICE
The power trunk lock button will
not work if you press the button
when:
- Any door is open.
- The engine start/stop button is not
in the OFF position.
- The smart key is in the vehicle.
Do not leave the power trunk open
for a long period of time. This may
drain the battery.
✽ ✽ NOTICE
In cold and wet climates, trunk lock
and trunk mechanisms may not
work properly due to freezing condi-
tions.
WARNING
Make sure there are no people
or objects around the trunk
before opening or closing the
power trunk. Wait until the trunk
is open fully and stopped
before loading or unloading
cargo from the vehicle.
CAUTION
Do not close or open the
power trunk manually. Thismay cause damage to thepower trunk. If it is necessaryto close or open the powertrunk manually when the bat-tery is drained or disconnect-ed, do not apply excessiveforce.
To prevent damage to the trunk lift cylinders and theattached hardware, alwaysclose the trunk before driving.

Power Trunk Non-Opening or
Closing Conditions:
The power trunk will not open or close automatically, when the vehi-
cle is moving more than 1.8 mph (3
km/h).
The power trunk can be operated when the engine is not running.
However, the power trunk opera-
tion consumes large amounts of
the vehicles battery power. To pre-
vent the battery from draining, do
not operate it excessively (e.g.,
more than approximately 10 times
repeatedly).
Do not modify or repair any part of the power trunk by yourself. This
must be done by an authorized Kia
dealer.
Before jacking up the vehicle to change a tire or repair the vehicle,
open the power trunk. Do not oper-
ate the power trunk when the vehi-
cle is raised or this could cause the
power trunk to operate improperly. If there are obstacles such as
snow on the power trunk, it may
not open automatically. After
removing the obstacle, try to open
it again.
Automatic stop and Reverse
If during power opening or closing,
the trunk is blocked by an object or
part of someone’s body, the power
trunk will detect the resistance and it
will stop movement or move to the
full open position to allow the object
to be cleared.
However, if an object is thin or soft,
or the trunk is near the latched posi-
tion, the automatic stop and reversal
may not detect the resistance and
the closing operation will continue. If
the power trunk is forced by a strong
impact, the automatic stop and rever-
sal may operate.

If the automatic stop and reverse fea-
ture operates more than twice during
one opening or closing operation, the
power trunk may stop at that posi-
tion.
If this occurs, close the trunk manu-
ally and operate the trunk automati-
cally again.To Reset the Power Trunk
If the battery has been discharged or
disconnected, or if the related fuse
has been replaced or disconnected,
reset the power trunk as follows:
1. Move the shift lever to the P (Park)position.
2. Close the trunk manually.
If the power trunk doesn't work prop-
erly after performing the above pro-
cedure, have the system checked by
an authorized Kia dealer.
Trunk Lid Control Button
When the trunk lid control button is in
UNLOCK, the power trunk can be
controlled with the power trunk main
control button, power trunk open,
close button, and the smart key.
When this trunk lid control button is
in LOCK, the power trunk can be
controlled using the mechanical key
of the smart key only.
WARNING
To prevent serious injury and
damage take the following pre-
cautions when operating the
power trunk:
- Keep all faces, hands, arms, body parts and other objects
away from the path of the
power trunk.
- Do not intentionally place any body parts or objects in the
path of the power trunk to
make sure the automatic stop
and reversal operates.
- Do not allow children to play with the power trunk.

Even though the trunk lid control but-
ton is in LOCK, the trunk will still be
propelled upward by mechanical
force if the trunk is manually opened
more than 10 degrees beyond the
fully closed position.
In addition, if the trunk is manually
closed to the secondary latch posi-
tion, the trunk will be electrically
moved to the fully latched position.
✽ ✽
NOTICE
Close the trunk, and keep the trunk
lid control button in the unlock posi-
tion before washing the vehicle in an
automatic car wash.
Emergency Trunk Safety
Release
Your vehicle is equipped with an
Emergency Trunk Safety Release
lever located inside the trunk. When
someone is inadvertently locked in
the trunk, the trunk can be opened
by moving the lever in the direction of
the arrow and pushing the trunk
open.
WARNING
Always keep the Trunk Lid
Control Button in the unlock
position when not in use.
Serious injury or death can
result from unintentional opera-
tion by a child.

You and your passengers must beaware of the location of the
Emergency Trunk Safety Release
lever in this vehicle and how to
open the trunk in case you are
accidentally locked in the trunk.
Your vehicle should be kept locked and the Smart Key should be kept
out of the reach of children.
Parents should teach their children
about the dangers of playing in
trunks.
Use the release lever for emergen- cies only.
WARNING
NEVER allow anyone to occupy
the trunk of the vehicle at any
time. If the trunk is partially or
totally latched and the person is
unable to get out, serious injury
or death could occur due to lack
of ventilation, exhaust fumes
and rapid heat build-up, or
because of exposure to cold
weather conditions. The trunk is
also a highly dangerous loca-
tion in the event of a crash
because it is not a protected
occupant space but is a part of
the vehicle’s crush zone.
WARNING
Make sure that there are no peo-
ple or objects in the path of the
power trunk (or smart trunk)
prior to use. Serious injury,
damage to the vehicle or dam-
age to surrounding objects may
result if contact with the power
trunk (or smart trunk) occurs.

On a vehicle equipped with a smart
key, the trunk can be opened with
no-touch activation using the Smart
Trunk system.
How to use the Smart Trunk
The trunk can be opened with no-
touch activation if all the conditions
below are met.
15 seconds has elapsed and all
doors are closed and locked
The smart key is positioned in the detecting area for more than 3 sec-
onds.
✽ ✽ NOTICE
• The Smart Trunk does not operate
when:
- The smart key is detected within15 seconds after the doors are
closed and locked, and is contin-
uously detected.
- The smart key is detected within 15 seconds after the doors are
closed and locked, and 60 inches
(1.5 m) from the front door han-
dles. (for vehicles equipped with
Welcome Light)
- A door is not locked or closed.
- The smart key is in the vehicle.
