Trunk lid open warning (if equipped)
This warning light activates when the
trunk is not closed securely.
Low fuel level warning
This warning light indicates the fuel
tank is nearly empty. The warning
light will come on when the fuel level
has dropped to about 8.5 liters.
Refuel as soon as possible. Door ajar warning
This warning light illuminates when a door is not closed securely with the
ignition in any position. Headlight high beam indicator This indicator illuminates when the headlights are on and in the high
beam position or when the turn sig-
nal lever is pulled into the Flash-to-
Pass position.
Front fog light indica- tor (if equipped) This light comes on when the front
fog lights are ON.
Malfunction indicator (if equipped)
This indicator light is part of the Engine Control System which moni-
tors various emission control system
components. If this light illuminates
while driving, it indicates that a
potential problem has been detected
somewhere in the emission controlsystem.
Generally, your vehicle will continue
to be drivable and will not need tow-
ing, but have the system checked by
an authorized Kia Dealer as soon as
possible.

Safety chains
You should always attach chains
between your vehicle and your trail-
er. Cross the safety chains under the
tongue of the trailer so that thetongue will not drop to the road if it
becomes separated from the hitch.
Instructions about safety chains may
be provided by the hitch manufactur-
er or by the trailer manufacturer.
Follow the manufacturer’s recom-
mendation for attaching safety
chains. Always leave just enough
slack so you can turn with your trail-
er. And, never allow safety chains to
drag on the ground.
Trailer brakes
If your trailer weighs more than 550
kg (1212 lbs.) loaded, then it needs
its own brakes and they must be ade-
quate. Be sure to read and follow the
instructions for the trailer brakes so
you’ll be able to install, adjust and
maintain them properly.
Don’t tap into your vehicle's brakesystem.
Driving with a trailer
Towing a trailer requires a certain
amount of experience. Before setting
out for the open road, you must get
to know your trailer. Acquaint your-
self with the feel of handling and
braking with the added weight of the
trailer. And always keep in mind that
the vehicle you are driving is now a
good deal longer and not nearly so
responsive as your vehicle is by
itself.
Before you start, check the trailer
hitch and platform, safety chains,
electrical connector(s), lights, tires
and mirror adjustment. If the trailer
has electric brakes, start your vehicle
and trailer moving and then apply the
trailer brake controller by hand to be
sure the brakes are working. This lets
you check your electrical connection
at the same time.
During your trip, check occasionally
to be sure that the load is secure,
and that the lights and any trailer
brakes are still working.
WARNING
Do not use a trailer with its own
brakes unless you are absolute-
ly certain that you have properly
set up the brake system. This is
not a task for amateurs. Use an
experienced, competent trailer
shop for this work.

Engine compartment
1. Turn the ignition switch and allother switches off.
2. Remove the fuse box cover by pressing the taps on both ends
and pulling up.
3. Check the removed fuse; replace it if it is blown.
4. Push in a new fuse of the same rating, and make sure it fits tightly
in the clips.
If it fits loosely, consult an Authorized
Kia Dealer.✽✽ NOTICE
After checking the fuse box in the
engine compartment, securely
install the fuse box cover. If not,
electrical failures may occur from
water leaking in.Main fuse
If the ALT (120A-Gasoline Engine,
140A-Diesel Engine) fuse is blown, it
must be removed as follows:
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the screws shown in the picture above.
3. Replace the fuse with a new one of the same rating.
4. Reinstall in the reverse order of removal.

Towing with a vehicle other
than a tow truck
If towing is necessary, we recom-
mend you to have it done by an
Authorized Kia dealer or a commer-
cial tow truck service.
If towing service is not available in an
emergency, your vehicle may be
temporarily towed using a cable or
chain secured to the emergency tow-ing hook under the front or rear of the
vehicle. Use extreme caution when
towing the vehicle. A driver must be
in the vehicle to steer it and operate
the brakes. Towing in this manner may be done
only on hard-surfaced roads for a
short distance and at low speeds.
Also, the wheels, axles, power train,
steering and brakes must all be ingood condition.
Do not use the tow hooks to pull a
vehicle out of mud, sand or other
conditions from which the vehicle
cannot be driven out under its own
power.
Avoid towing a vehicle heavier than the vehicle doing the towing.
The drivers of both vehicles should communicate with each other fre-
quently.

Tire replacement
1. Park on a level surface and apply
the parking brake firmly.
2. Shift the shift lever into R (Reverse) with manual transaxle
or P (Park) with automatic
transaxle.
3. Activate the hazard warning flash- er.
WARNING - Changing
tires
Never attempt vehicle repairs in the traffic lanes of a public
road or highway.
Always move the vehicle com- pletely off the road and onto
the shoulder before trying to
change a tire. The jack should
be used on level firm ground
whenever possible. If you can-
not find a firm, level place off
the road, call a towing service
company for assistance.
Do not exceed the jack’s max- imum permissible load: 700 kg(1,540 lbs.).
Be sure to use the correct front and rear jacking posi-
tions on the vehicle; never use
the bumpers or any other part
of the vehicle for jack support.

The vehicle can easily roll offthe jack causing serious
injury or death. No person
should place any portion of
their body under a vehicle that
is supported only by a jack ;
use vehicle support stands.
Do not start or run the engine while the vehicle is on the
jack.
Do not allow anyone to remain in the vehicle while it is on the
jack.
Make sure any children pres- ent are in a secure place away
from the road and from the
vehicle to be raised with the
jack.

11. Once the wheel lug nuts havebeen tightened, lower the vehicle
fully to the ground and continue to
tighten the lug nuts until they are
fully secured. Tighten the wheel
lug nuts firmly in a “X” pattern.
If you are unsure of the tightness
of the wheel lug nuts, have them
checked at the nearest service
station. The specified tightening
Improperly tight-
ened wheel lug nuts could cause
brake pedal vibration while brak-ing. To prevent the jack, jack handle,
wheel lug nut wrench and spare tire
from rattling while the vehicle is in
motion, store them properly.

CAUTION
Your vehicle has metric threads
on the wheel studs and nuts. Make certain during wheelremoval that the same nutsremoved are reinstalled - or, if replaced, that nuts with metricthreads and the same chamferconfiguration are used. Installation of a non-metricthread nut on a metric stud orvice-versa will not secure thewheel to the hub properly and will damage the stud so that itmust be replaced.
Note that most lug nuts do nothave metric threads. Be sure to use extreme care in checkingfor thread style before installingaftermarket lug nuts or wheels.If in doubt, consult an Authorized Kia Dealer.
WARNING - Wheel studs
If the studs are damaged, they
may lose their ability to retain
the wheel. This could lead to theloss of the wheel and a colli-sion.
WARNING
Check the inflation pressures as
soon as possible after installing
the spare tire. Adjust it to the
specified pressure, if necessary.
Refer to Section 8, Specifications.

7. Install the oil filter and tighten it.
(Refer to the oil filter caution label
for tightening instructions.)
8. Install a new washer on the drain plug. Don’t use an old washer
repeatedly.
9. Replace the drain plug after the oil has thoroughly drained. Torque the
10. Refill the engine with new oil to the F mark on the dipstick. Do not
overfill.
11. Reinstall the oil filler cap secure- ly.
12. Start the engine and inspect around the oil filter seal for leaks.
Stop the engine.
13. Check the oil level and fill to the F mark as necessary.Oil capacity

Checking the parking brake
Check the stroke of the parking
brake by counting the number of
“clicks’’ heard while fully applying it
from the released position. Also, the
parking brake alone should securely
hold the vehicle on a fairly steep
grade. If the stroke is more or less
than specified, have the parking
brake adjusted by an Authorized Kia
Dealer.
Stroke : 7~8 “clicks’’ at a force of 20 kg (44 lbs, 196 N).

PARKING BRAKE
CAUTION
Do not allow brake/clutch fluid
to contact the vehicle's body paint, as paint damage willresult. Brake/clutch fluid, whichhas been exposed to open air for an extended time shouldnever be used as its quality can-not be guaranteed. It should be thrown out. Don't put in thewrong kind of fluid. For exam-ple, just a few drops of mineral- based oil, such as engine oil, inyour brake clutch system candamage brake clutch systemparts.
