To unfasten:
Press the release button on the
buckle and allow the belt to slowly
retract.
Lap belt (if equipped)
To fasten the lap belt:
1. Grasp the tongue and pull it lowover the abdomen.

Never drive or ride with atwisted or jammed safety belt.
If you cannot untwist or unjam
the safety belt, see the nearest
Kia dealer immediately.
Never use a single belt to restrain more than one person
at a time.
Failure to follow these warnings
will increase the risk and sever-
ity of injury in an accident.
WARNING
Never wear the shoulder por- tion of the safety belt under the outside arm or behind the
back.
Never wear the shoulder por- tion of the safety belt across
the neck or face.
Wear the lap portion of the safety belt as low as possible.
Be sure the lap belt fits snug-
ly around the hips. Never wear
the lap belt over your waist.

2. Insert the tongue plate (➀) into the
open end of the buckle ( ➁) until an
audible “click” is heard, indicating
the latch is locked. Make sure thebelt is not twisted. 3. Grasp the free portion of the belt
webbing and pull until the belt is
snug over the hips and lower
abdomen. If it becomes necessary
to lengthen or shorten the belt,
hold the latch plate tongue at right
angles to the webbing and pull. 4. Make sure that the belt is placed
as LOW ON THE HIPS as possi-
ble.

There will be an audible “click” when
the tab locks in the buckle. The seatbelt automatically adjusts to theproper length only after the lap belt is
adjusted manually so that it fits snug-
ly around your hips, if you lean for-
ward in a slow, easy motion, the belt
will extend and let you move around.If there is a sudden stop or impact,
the belt will lock into position. It will
also lock if you try to lean forward too
quickly.
To unfasten the rear centre belt
1. Press the release button on the
buckle (D) and remove the tongue
plate (B) from the buckle (D).
2. Press the release button on the buckle (C) and remove the tongue
plate (A) from the buckle (C)
The belt webbing will retract auto- matically. 3. Insert the tongue plates into the
holes and hang the tongue plates
on the hooks on the belt assembly
cover.
WARNING
When using the rear seat centre
belt, you must lock all tongue
plates and buckles. If any
tongue plate or buckle is not
locked, it will increase the
chance of injury in the event ofcollision.

Securing a child restraint seat
with “Tether Anchor” system (if equipped)
Child restraint hook holders are located on the shelf or floor behind
the rear seats.
1. Open the tether anchor cover on the shelf or floor behind the rear
seats. 2. Route the child restraint seat strap
over the seatback.
For vehicles with adjustable head-
rest, route the tether strap under
the headrest and between the
headrest posts, otherwise route
the tether strap over the top of the
seatback.
3. Connect the tether strap hook to the belonging child restraint hookholder and tighten to secure theseat. The anchor fitting package consistsof: 4 Door

Securing a child restraint system
with “ISOFIX” system and “Tether Anchorage” system (if equipped)
ISOFIX is a standardised method of fitting child seats that eliminates theneed to use the standard adult seat
belt to secure the seat in the vehicle.
This enables a much more secure
and positive location with the added
benefit of easier and quicker installa-tion. An ISOFIX-seat can only be installed
if it has vehicle-specific approval inaccordance with the requirements ofECE-R44.

SUGGESTIONS FOR ECONOMICAL OPERATION
Your vehicle's fuel economy depends
mainly on your style of driving, where
you drive and when you drive.
Each of these factors affects how
many kilometers (miles) you can get
from a litre (gallon) of fuel. To operate
your vehicle as economically as pos-
sible, use the following driving sug-
gestions to help save money in bothfuel and repairs:
Avoid lengthy warm-up idling. Once the engine is running
smoothly, begin driving.
Remember, engine warm-up may
take a little longer on cold days.
Save fuel by accelerating slowly after stopping.
Keep the engine in tune and follow the recommended periodic mainte-
nance schedule. This will increase
the life of all parts and lower your
operating costs. Do not use the air conditioner
unnecessarily.
Slow down when driving on rough roads.
For longer tyre life and better fuel economy, always keep the tyresinflated to the recommended pres-
sures.
Maintain a safe distance from other vehicles to avoid sudden stops.
This will reduce wear on brake lin-
ings and pads. Driving in such a
way will also save fuel because
extra fuel is required to accelerate
back to driving speed.
Do not carry unnecessary weight in the vehicle.
Do not rest your foot on the brake pedal while driving. This can cause
needless wear, possible damage
to the brakes, and poor fuel econo-
my.
Improper wheel alignment results in faster tyre wear and lower fuel
economy. Open windows at high speeds can
reduce fuel economy.
Fuel economy is less in crosswinds and headwinds. To help offset
some of this loss, slow down when
driving in these conditions.
Keeping a vehicle in good operating
condition is important both for econ-
omy and safety. Therefore, have an
authorized Kia dealer performscheduled inspections and mainte-
nance.

WARNING - Engine off
during motion
Never turn the engine off to
coast down hills or anytime the
vehicle is in motion. The power
steering and power brakes willnot function without the engine
running. Instead, keep the
engine on and downshift to an
appropriate gear for engine
braking effect.
