Push [1]~[6]button less than 0.8 second
to play the channel saved in each button.
Push preset button for 0.8 second or
longer to save the current channel to the
respective button with a beep.
5. TUNE/AUDIO Control Button
Turn this button clockwise by one notch
to increase frequency by 100KHz from
current frequency.
Turn this button counterclockwise by one
notch to decrease frequency by 100KHz
from current frequency.
Turns to AUDIO CONTROL mode, and toggles in the order of BASS ➟
MIDDLE
➟ TREBLE ➟FADER ➟BALANCE ➟···BAS
S··· when the button is pressed each
time.
6. SCAN Button
Plays the first 10 seconds of each chan-
nel, when the button is pressed.
To cancel the mode, press the button once again.
7. AUTO STORE Button
When the button is pressed, it automati-
cally selects and saves channels with
high reception rate to PRESET but-
tons(1~6) and plays the channel saved inPRESET1.
If no channel is saved after AST, it will
play the previous channel.
CAUTION
Do not place beverages close to
the audio system. The audio sys-tem mechanism may be damaged
if you spill them.
Do not strike or allow anything to impact the audio system, damageto the system mechanisms couldoccur.

When the ignition switch is on ACC or
ON and the power is OFF, the power is
automatically turned on if the CD isloaded.
This CDP supports 12cm CDs. But if
VCD. Data CD, MP3 CD are loaded,"Disc-Err" message will appear and theCD will be ejected.
2. CD Selection Button
If there is a CD in the CDP deck, it turns
to the CD mode when the button is
pressed each time.
3. CD Eject Button
Push button to eject the CD during
CD playback.
This button is enabled when ignition
switch is off.
4. AUX Selection Button
If the auxiliary device is connected, it
turns to the AUX mode to play the sound
from the auxiliary player.
If there is no disc and the auxiliary device
is not connected, it will not turn to the
AUX mode.
5. Rewind / Fast Forward Button
Rewind ButtonPress and hold [2 REW] button while
playing a CD then the player will play
the disk backwards 5 times the regular
speed for the first 5 seconds and 15
times faster after that. The sound will
be reduced by 12dB while you are
holding the button.
Fast Forward Button Press and hold [3 FF] button while
playing a CD then the player will play
the disk forward 5 times the regular
speed for the first 5 seconds and 15
times faster after that. The sound will
be reduced by 12dB while you are
holding the button.
6. RANDOM (RDM) Button
You can listen to the tracks in random,
rather than sequential order.
To use random, do the following:
Press the RDM button to listen to record-
ed tracks in random sequence. PressRDM again to cancel.
7. REPEAT Button
Repeats the current song when the but-
ton is pressed for less than 0.8 second.
Repeats the entire disc when the button
is pressed for 0.8 second or longer.

Press this button to turn to the SOUND,
SCROLL adjustment mode.
If no action is taken for 5 seconds after
pressing the button, it will return to the
play mode.(After entering SET UP mode,
move between items using the left, right

• Be sure that all windows, outside mir-ror(s), and outside lights are clean.
Check the condition of the tires.
Check under the vehicle for any sign of leaks.
Be sure there are no obstacles behind you if you intend to back up.

Necessary inspections
Fluid levels, such as engine oil, engine
coolant, brake fluid, and washer fluid
should be checked on a regular basis,
with the exact interval depending on the
fluid. Further details are provided in sec-
tion 7, “Maintenance”.

Before starting
Close and lock all doors.
Position the seat so that all controls are easily reached.
Adjust the inside and outside rearview mirrors.
Be sure that all lights work.
Check all gauges. Check the operation of warning lights
when the ignition switch is turned to the ON position.
Release the parking brake and make sure the brake warning light goes out.
For safe operation, be sure you are famil-
iar with your vehicle and its equipment.
BEFORE DRIVING
WARNING
All passengers must be properly
belted whenever the vehicle is mov-
ing. Refer to “Seat belts” in section
3 for more information on their
proper use.
WARNING
Always check the surrounding
areas near your vehicle for people,
especially children, before putting a
car into D (Drive) or R (Reverse).
WARNING - Driving under
the influence of alcohol or drugs
Drinking and driving is dangerous.
Drunk driving is the number one
contributor to the highway death
toll each year. Even a small amount
of alcohol will affect your reflexes,
perceptions and judgment. Drivingwhile under the influence of drugs
is as dangerous or more dangerousthan driving drunk.
You are much more likely to have a
serious accident if you drink or
take drugs and drive.
If you are drinking or taking drugs,
don’t drive. Do not ride with a driv-er who has been drinking or taking
drugs. Choose a designated driveror call a cab.
WARNING
When you intend to park or stop the
vehicle with the engine on, be care-ful not to depress the accelerator
pedal for a long period of time. It
may overheat the engine or exhaust
system and cause fire.

Ignition switch position

LOCK
The steering wheel locks to protect
against theft. The ignition key can be
removed only in the LOCK position.
When turning the ignition switch to the
LOCK position, push the key inward at
the ACC position and turn the key towardthe LOCK position. E030202AUN

The steering wheel is unlocked and elec-
trical accessories are operative.

NOTICE
If difficulty is experienced turning the
ignition switch to the ACC position, turn
the key while turning the steering wheel
right and left to release the tension.

The warning lights can be checked
before the engine is started. This is the
normal running position after the engine
is started.
Do not leave the ignition switch ON if the engine is not running to prevent battery
discharge.

Turn the ignition switch to the START
position to start the engine. The engine
will crank until you release the key; then
it returns to the ON position. The brake

Never turn the ignition switch to LOCK or ACC while the vehicle is
moving. This would result in loss
of directional control and braking
function, which could cause anaccident.
The anti-theft steering column lock is not a substitute for the parking
brake. Before leaving the driver’s
seat, always make sure the shift
lever is engaged in the 1st gear for
manual transaxle or P (Park) for
the automatic transaxle, set the
parking brake fully and shut the
engine off. Unexpected and sud-
den vehicle movement may occurif these precautions are not taken.

Starting the gasoline engine
1. Make sure the parking brake isapplied.
2. Manual Transaxle - Depress the
clutch pedal fully and shift the
transaxle into Neutral. Keep the clutch
pedal and brake pedal depressed
while turning the ignition switch to the
start position.
Automatic Transaxle - Place the
transaxle shift lever in P (Park).
Depress the brake pedal fully.
You can also start the engine when
the shift lever is in the N (Neutral) position.
3. Turn the ignition switch to START and hold it there until the engine starts (a
maximum of 10 seconds), then
release the key. 4. In extremely cold weather (below
-18°C / 0°F) or after the vehicle has
not been operated for several days, let
the engine warm up without depress-
ing the accelerator.
Whether the engine is cold or warm, it
should be started without depressing
the accelerator.

Never reach for the ignition switch, or any other controls through the
steering wheel while the vehicle is
in motion. The presence of yourhand or arm in this area could
cause a loss of vehicle control, an
accident and serious bodily injuryor death.
Do not place any movable objects around the driver’s seat as they
may move while driving, interferewith the driver and lead to an acci-dent.
STARTING THE ENGINE
WARNING
Always wear appropriate shoes
when operating your vehicle.
Unsuitable shoes (high heels, ski
boots,etc.) may interfere with yourability to use the brake and acceler-ator pedal.
CAUTION
If the engine stalls while you are in motion, do not attempt to move theshift lever to the P (Park) position. If traffic and road conditions permit,
you may put the shift lever in the N (Neutral) position while the vehicleis still moving and turn the ignition switch to the START position in an
attempt to restart the engine.
CAUTION
Do not engage the starter for morethan 10 seconds. If the engine stalls or fails to start, wait 5 to 10 seconds
before re-engaging the starter. Improper use of the starter maydamage it.

Starting the diesel engine
To start the diesel engine when the engine is cold, it has to be pre-heated
before starting the engine and then have
to be warmed up before starting to drive.
1. Make sure the parking brake is
applied.
2. Manual Transaxle - Depress the
clutch pedal fully and shift the
transaxle into Neutral. Keep the clutch
pedal and brake pedal depressed
while turning the ignition switch to the
start position.
Automatic Transaxle - Place the
transaxle shift lever in P(park).
Depress the brake pedal fully.
You can also start the engine when the
shift lever is in the N(neutral) position.
3. Turn the ignition switch to the ON posi- tion to pre-heat the engine. Then the
glow indicator light will illuminate.
4. If the glow indicator light goes out, turn the ignition switch to the START posi-tion and hold it there until the engine
starts (a maximum of 10 seconds),
then release the key.

NOTICE
If the engine does not start within 10
seconds after the preheating is complet-
ed, turn the ignition switch once more to
the LOCK position for 10 seconds, and
then to the ON position, in order to pre-
heat again.
Starting and stopping the engine for tur-
bocharger intercooler (if equipped)
1. Do not race or accelerate the engine immediately after starting.
If the engine is cold, idle for several
seconds before sufficient lubrication isensured in the turbocharger unit.
2. After high speed or extended driving, requiring a heavy engine load, idle the
engine about 1 minute before turning it
off.
This idle time will allow the tur- bocharger to cool prior to shutting the
engine off.

Glow indicator light
CAUTION
Do not turn the engine off immedi-
ately after it has been subjected to
a heavy load. Doing so may cause severe damage to the engine or tur-bocharger unit.
