To prevent vehicle movement
while changing a tire, always
set the parking brake fully,
and always block the wheel
diagonally opposite the wheel
being changed.
We recommend that the wheels of the vehicle be
blocked, and that no person
remain in the vehicle that is
being jacked.

7.Loosen the wheel lug nuts counter-
clockwise one turn each, but do
not remove any nut until the tire
has been raised off the ground. 8.Place the jack at the front or rear
jacking position closest to the tire
you are changing. Place the jack atthe designated locations under the
frame. The jacking positions are
plates welded to the frame with two
tabs and a raised dot to index with
the jack.

9.Insert the jack handle into the jackand turn it clockwise, raising the
vehicle until the tire just clears the
ground. This measurement is
approximately 30 mm (1.2 in).
Before removing the wheel lug
nuts, make sure the vehicle is sta-
ble and that there is no chance for
movement or slippage. 10. Loosen the wheel nuts and
remove them with your fingers.Slide the wheel off the studs and
lay it flat so it cannot roll away. To
put the wheel on the hub, pick up
the spare tire, line up the holeswith the studs and slide the
wheel onto them. If this is diffi-cult, tip the wheel slightly and getthe top hole in the wheel lined up
with the top stud. Then jiggle the
wheel back and forth until the
wheel can be slid over the other
studs.

Wheels and wheel caps may have sharp edges. Handle
them carefully to avoid possi-
ble severe injury.
Before putting the wheel into place, be sure that there isnothing on the hub or wheel
(such as mud, tar, gravel, etc.)
that interferes with the wheel
from fitting solidly against the
hub. If there is, remove it. Ifthe contact of the mountingsurface between the wheel
and hub is not good, the
wheel nuts could come looseand cause the loss of a wheel.
Loss of a wheel may result in
loss of control of the vehicle.
This may cause serious injuryor death.

11. To reinstall the wheel, hold it on
the studs, put the wheel nuts on the studs and tighten them finger
tight. The nuts should be installedwith their tapered small diameter
ends directed inward. Jiggle thetire to be sure it is completely
seated, then tighten the nuts as
much as possible with your fin-gers again.
12. Lower the car to the ground by turning the wheel nut wrench
counterclockwise. Then position the wrench as shown
in the drawing and tighten the wheel
nuts. Be sure the socket is seated
completely over the nut. Do not standon the wrench handle or use an
extension pipe over the wrench han-
dle. Go around the wheel tightening
every nut following the numerical
sequence shown in the image until
they are all tight. Then double-check
each nut for tightness. After changing
wheels, we recommend that the sys-
tem be checked by an authorized Kia
dealer.
Wheel nut tightening torque:
Steel wheel & aluminum alloy wheel:9~11 kg·m (65~79 lb·ft) If you have a tire gauge, remove the
valve cap and check the air pressure.
If the pressure is lower than recom-
mended, drive slowly to the nearest
service station and inflate to the cor-
rect pressure. If it is too high, adjust
it until it is correct. Always reinstall
the valve cap after checking or
adjusting tire pressure. If the cap is
not replaced, air may leak from the
tire. If you lose a valve cap, buyanother and install it as soon as pos-
sible.
After you have changed wheels,
always secure the flat tire in its place
and return the jack and tools to their
proper storage locations.

To prevent the jack, jack handle,
wheel lug nut wrench and spare tire
from rattling while the vehicle is in
motion, store them properly.
CAUTION
Your vehicle has metric threadson the wheel studs and nuts.Make certain during wheelremoval that the same nuts that were removed are reinstalled -or, if replaced, that nuts withmetric threads and the samechamfer configuration are used.Installation of a non-metric thread nut on a metric stud orvice-versa will not secure thewheel to the hub properly andwill damage the stud so that itmust be replaced.
Note that most lug nuts do nothave metric threads. Be sure touse extreme care in checkingfor thread style before installingaftermarket lug nuts or wheels.If in doubt, consult an author- ized Kia dealer.
WARNING - Wheel studs
If the studs are damaged, they
may lose their ability to retain
the wheel. This could lead to theloss of the wheel and a collisionresulting in serious injuries.
WARNING - Inadequate
spare tire pressure
Check the inflation pressures
as soon as possible after
installing the spare tire. Adjust
it to the specified pressure, if
necessary. Refer to “Tires and
wheels” section 8.

TOWING
Towing service
If emergency towing is necessary,
we recommend having it done by an
authorized Kia dealer or a commer-
cial tow-truck service. Proper lifting
and towing procedures are neces-
sary to prevent damage to the vehi-
cle. The use of wheel dollies orflatbed is recommended. It is acceptable to tow the vehicle
with the front wheels on the ground(without dollies) and the rear wheels
off the ground.
If any of the loaded wheels or sus- pension components are damaged
or the vehicle is being towed with the
rear wheels on the ground, use a
towing dolly under the rear wheels.
When being towed by a commercial
tow truck and wheel dollies are not
used, the rear of the vehicle should
always be lifted, not the front.

NOTICE
When you tow the vehicle as the pic-
ture (A), the cable should be secured
to the vehicle towing hook (1) as the
picture.
If you use chains or cables to tie
down your vehicle, the angle (2)
must be 45°.
Do not overly tighten the tie downs
or the vehicle may be damaged.

When towing your vehicle in an emergency without wheel dollies :
1.Set the ignition switch in the ACCposition.
2.Place the shift lever in N (Neutral).
3.Release the parking brake.

Failure to place the shift lever in N (Neutral) may cause internaldamage to the transaxle.

Do not tow with sling-type equipment. Use wheel lift orflatbed equipment.
CAUTION
If the ECS malfunction indicator illuminates when there is no airin the suspension, the vehicleheight will be very lower, so donot drive to protect the vehicle from the projections on the sur-face of the ground.

3.Install the towing hook by turning itclockwise into the hole until it is fully secured.
4.Remove the towing hook and install the cover after use. Emergency towing
If towing is necessary, we recom-
mend you to have it done by an
authorized Kia dealer or a com-
mercial tow truck service. If towing service is not available in an
emergency, your vehicle may be
temporarily towed using a cable or
chain secured to the emergency tow-
ing hook under the rear of the vehi-
cle. Use extreme caution when tow-
ing the vehicle. A driver must be in
the vehicle to steer it and operate the
brakes.
Towing in this manner may be done
only on hard-surfaced roads for a
short distance and at low speeds.
Also, the wheels, axles, power train,
steering and brakes must all be ingood condition.
Do not use the tow hooks to pull a
vehicle out of mud, sand or other
conditions from which the vehicle
cannot be driven out under its own
power.
Avoid towing a vehicle heavier than the vehicle doing the towing.
The drivers of both vehicles should communicate with each other fre-
quently.

Emergency towing precautions
Place the ignition switch in ACC sothe steering wheel isn’t locked.
Place the transaxle shift lever in N (Neutral).
Release the parking bake.
Press the brake pedal with more force than normal since you will
have reduced brake performance.
More steering effort will be required because the power steer-
ing system will be disabled.
If you are driving down a long hill, the brakes may overheat and brake
performance will be reduced. Stop
often and let the brakes cool off.CAUTION - Automatic
transaxle
If the car is being towed with all four wheels on the ground,it can be towed only from thefront. Be sure that thetransaxle is in neutral. Be surethe steering is unlocked byplacing the ignition switch in the ACC position. A drivermust be in the towed vehicleto operate the steering andbrakes.
To avoid serious damage to the automatic transaxle, limitthe vehicle speed to 15 km/h (10 mph) and drive less than1.5 km (1 mile) when towing.
Before towing, check the auto- matic transaxle for fluid leaksunder your vehicle. If the auto-matic transaxle fluid is leak-ing, a flatbed equipment ortowing dolly must be used.

EMERGENCY COMMODITY (IF EQUIPPED)
There are some emergency com-
modities in the vehicle to help yourespond to the emergency situation.
Fire extinguisher
If there is small fire and you know
how to use the fire extinguisher, take
the following steps carefully.
1.Pull the pin at the top of the extin- guisher that keeps the handle from being accidentally pressed.
2.Aim the nozzle toward the base of the fire.
3.Stand approximately 2.5 m (8 ft) away from the fire and squeeze the
handle to discharge the extinguish-
er. If you release the handle, the
discharge will stop.
4.Sweep the nozzle back and forth at the base of the fire. After the fire
appears to be out, watch it careful-
ly since it may re-ignite. First aid kit There are some items such as scis-
sors, bandage and adhesive tape
and etc. in the kit to give first aid toan injured person.
Triangle reflector
Place the triangle reflector on the
road to warn oncoming vehicles dur-
ing emergencies, such as when the
vehicle is parked by the roadside due
to any problems.
Tire pressure gauge (If equipped)
Tires normally lose some air in day-
to-day use, and you may have to add
a few pounds of air periodically and it
is not usually a sign of a leaking tire,
but of normal wear. Always check tirepressure when the tires are coldbecause tire pressure increases with
temperature. To check the tire pressure, take the
following steps;
1.Unscrew the inflation valve cap
that is located on the rim of the tire.
2.Press and hold the gauge against the tire valve. Some air will escape
as you begin and more will escape
if you don't press the gauge in firm-
ly.
3.A firm non-leaking push will acti- vate the gauge.
4.Read the tire pressure on the gauge to know whether the tire
pressure is low or high.
5.Adjust the tire pressures to the specified pressure. Refer to “Tires
and wheels” in section 8.
6.Reinstall the inflation valve cap.
