Map light (if equipped)The lights are turned ON or OFF by
pressing the corresponding switch.
(1) Map light
(2)DOOR
: The light turns on when a door is opened or when a door is unlocked
by the transmitter (if equipped).
Interior light goes out slowly after 30
seconds if the door is closed.
However if the ignition switch is ON
or all vehicle doors are locked when
the door is closed, interior light will
turn off even within 30 seconds.
(3) ROOM
: The light turns on and stays on even when the doors are all closed.
Dome light (if equipped)(1) OFF
: The light stays off even when a dooris open.
(2) DOOR : The light turns on when a door isopened or when a door is unlocked
by the transmitter (if equipped).

It may cause battery discharge.

NOTICE• To avoid possible theft, do not leave
valuables in the storage compartment.
• Since stored items may move while driving, be sure to position them in
the storage compartment so that they
do not make noise or cause a potential
safety hazard when the vehicle is mov-
ing.
• Always keep the storage compartment covers closed while driving. Do not
attempt to place many items in the
storage compartment that the storage
compartment cover can not close
securely.
Multi box (if equipped)To open the cover located above the cig-
arette lighter/power outlet, push the but-
ton and pull the cover down. It can be
used for storing small items.
Glove boxTo open the glove box, pull the handle (1)
and the glove box will automatically open
(2). Close the glove box after use.
STORAGE COMPARTMENT
WARNING -
Flammable
materials
Do not store cigarette lighters,
propane cylinders, or other flamma-
ble/explosive materials in the vehi-
cle. These items may catch fire
and/or explode if the vehicle is
exposed to hot temperatures for
extended periods.

of an accident or sudden stop,always keep the glove box door closed while driving.

Sunglass holder (if equipped)A sunglass storage compartment is pro-
vided on the overhead console. To open
the sunglass holder, press the cover and
the holder will slowly open. Place your
sunglasses in the compartment door with
the lenses facing out. Push to close.
✽ ✽NOTICEMake sure the sunglass holder is closed
while driving.
INTERIOR FEATURES Cigarette lighterTo operate the cigarette lighter, press it in
and release it. When it is heated, it auto-
matically pops out ready for use.
If the engine is not running, the ignition
switch must be in the ACC position for
the lighter to operate.

Do not use the sunglass holder

NOTICE• Do not hold the lighter in after it is
already heated because it will over-
heat.
• Only a genuine Kia lighter should be used in the cigarette lighter socket.
The use of plug-in accessories
(shavers, hand-held vacuums, and
coffee pots, for example) may damage
the socket or cause electrical failure.
• If the lighter does not pop out within 30 seconds, remove it to prevent over-
heating.
Ashtrays To use the ashtray, open the cover.
To remove the ashtray to empty or clean
it, pull it up and out.
Cup holderCups or small beverage cans may be
placed in the cup holders.

 Do not use the vehicle’s ashtrays
as waste receptacles.
 Putting lit cigarettes or matches in an ashtray with other combustible
materials may cause a fire.
WARNING
- Hot liquids
 Do not place uncovered cups ofhot liquid in the cup holder while
the vehicle is in motion. If the hot
liquid spills, you could be burned.
Such a burn to the driver could
cause a loss of control of the
vehicle.
 To reduce the risk of personal injury in the event of sudden stop
or collision, do not place uncov-
ered or insecure bottles, glasses,
cans, etc., in the cup holder while
the vehicle is in motion.

SunvisorUse the sunvisor to shield direct light
through the front or side windows.
To use a sunvisor, pull it downward.
To use a sunvisor for a side window
shade, pull it downward, unsnap it from
the bracket (1) and swing it to the side.
To use the vanity mirror, pull down the
visor and pull up the mirror cover (2, if
equipped).
✽ ✽ NOTICE• Close the vanity mirror cover securely
and return the sunvisor to its original
position after use.
• If the vanity mirror lamp is equipped and mirror cover is not closed secure-
ly, the lamp will stay on and could
result in battery discharge and possi-
ble sunvisor damage.
Power socket (if equipped)The power outlets are designed to pro-
vide power for mobile telephones or
other devices designed to operate with
vehicle electrical systems. The devices
should draw less than 10 amps with the
engine running.

Care of cassette tapes
(if equipped)Because the thickness of a cassette tape
with the total playback time of over 60
minutes (C-60) are too thin, we suggest
that you do not use any of them to avoid
having tapes being tangled.
 To achieve better sound quality, periodi-
cally clean the tape head using a cotton
stick with colorless alcohol (once per
month).
 If a tape is too loose, fasten it to reel by
winding with objects like a pencil.
 Because dust or foreign objects on a cas-
sette tape may damage the playback
head, always store tapes in their cases
when not in use.
 Make sure cassette tapes are kept away
from magnetic devices (TV, stereo sys-
tem, etc) in order to achieve better sound
quality.
 Be certain that no objects or substances
other than cassette tapes are inserted
into the cassette tape player.
 Because tape media can be distorted
when exposed to direct sunlight, Do not
leave cassette tapes on the seats, dash-
board or near the back windshield.
Care of disc (if equipped)If the temperature inside the car is too
high, open the car windows for ventila-
tion before using your car audio.
 It is illegal to copy and use
MP3/WMA/AAC/WAVE files without
permission. Use CDs that are created
only by lawful means.
 Do not apply volatile agents such as
benzene and thinner, normal cleaners
and magnetic sprays made for ana-
logue disc onto CDs.
 To prevent the disc surface from get-
ting damaged. Hold and carry CDs by
the edges or the edges of the center
hole only.
 Clean the disc surface with a piece of
soft cloth before playback (wipe it from
the center to the outside edge.)
 Do not damage the disc surface or
attach pieces of sticky tape or paper
onto it.
 Make sure on undesirable matter other
than CDs are inserted into the CD
player (Do not insert more than one
CD at a time). 
Keep CDs in their cases after use to
protect them from scratches or dirt.
 Depending on the type of CD-R/CD-
RW CDs, certain CDs may not operate
normally according to manufacturing
companies or making and recording
methods. In such circumstances, if you
still continue to use those CDs, they
may cause the malfunction of your car
audio system.

NOTICE
- Playing an
Incompatible Copy-Protected
Audio CD
Some copy-protected CDs, which do not
comply with the international audio CD
standards(Red Book), may not play on
your car audio. Please note that if you
try to play copy protected CDs and the
CD player of your car audio is not per-
forming to your expectation, this may be
caused by those CDs and not a defect in
the device itself. Please replace those
CDs.

steering column lock
Ignition switch positionLOCK
The steering wheel locks to protect
against theft. The ignition key can be
removed only in the LOCK position.
When turning the ignition switch to the
LOCK position, push the key inward at
the ACC position and turn the key toward
the LOCK position (manual transaxle).
ACC (Accessory)
The steering wheel is unlocked and elec-
trical accessories are operative.
ON
This is the normal running position after
the engine is started. The warning lights
can be checked before the engine is
started.Do not leave the ignition switch ON if theengine is not running to prevent batterydischarge.
START
Turn the ignition key to the START posi-
tion to start the engine. The engine will
crank until you release the key; then it
returns to the ON position. The brake
warning lamp can be checked in this
position.✽ ✽ NOTICEIf it is difficult to turn the ignition key to
the START position, turn the steering
wheel right and left to release resistance
and then turn the key.Automatic transaxleWhen turning the ignition switch to the
LOCK position, the shift lever must be in
the P (Park) position.Illuminated ignition switchWhenever a door is opened, the ignition
switch will be illuminated for your con-
venience, provided the ignition switch is
not in the ON position. The light will go off
approximately 30 seconds after closing
the door or when the ignition switch is
turned on.

✽NOTICETo avoid premature clutch wear and
damage, do not drive with your foot
resting on the clutch pedal. Also, don’t
use the clutch to hold the vehicle
stopped on an uphill grade, while wait-
ing for a traffic light, etc..
DownshiftingWhen you must slow down in heavy traf-
fic or while driving up steep hills, down-
shift before the engine starts to labor.
Downshifting reduces the chance of
stalling and gives better acceleration
when you again need to increase your
speed. When the vehicle is traveling
down steep hills, downshifting helps
maintain safe speed and prolongs brake
life.
WARNING
- Manual
transaxle
Before leaving the driver’s seat,
always set the parking brake fully
and shut the engine off. Then make
sure the transaxle is shifted into 1
st
gear when the vehicle is parked on
a level or uphill grade, and shifted
into R (Reverse) on a downhill
grade. Unexpected and sudden
vehicle movement can occur if
these precautions are not followed
in the order identified.

• Do not shift from N (Neutral) or P(Park) into D (Drive), or R (Reverse)
when the engine is above idle speed.Transaxle rangesP (Park)This position locks the transaxle and pre-
vents the front wheels from rotating.
Always come to a complete stop before
shifting into this position.
✽ ✽ NOTICEThe transaxle may be damaged if you
shift into P (Park) while the vehicle is in
motion.
R (Reverse)Use this position to drive the vehicle
backward.✽ ✽NOTICEAlways come to a complete stop before
shifting into or out of R (Reverse); you
may damage the transaxle if you shift
into R while the vehicle is in motion.N (Neutral)With the gearshift in the N position, the
wheels and transaxle are not locked. The
vehicle will roll freely even on the slight-
est incline unless the parking brake or
service brakes are applied.D (Drive)This is the normal forward driving posi-
tion. The transaxle will automatically shift
through a 4-gear sequence, providing the
best fuel economy and power.
For extra power when passing another
vehicle or climbing grades, depress the
accelerator fully, at which time the
transaxle will automatically downshift to
the next lower gear.

you. Unexpected and sudden
vehicle movement can occur if
you do not follow these precau-
tions in the order specified.
Never leave a child unattended in a vehicle.
WARNING
Shifting into P (Park) while thevehicle is in motion will cause the
drive wheels to lock which will
cause you to lose control of the
vehicle.
Do not use the P (Park) position in place of the parking brake.
Always make sure the shift lever
is latched in the P (Park) position
so that it cannot be moved unless
the lock release button is pushed
in, AND set the parking brake fully.
