The VSM does not operate when:
• Driving on bank road such as gradient or incline
• Driving rearward
• ESC OFF indicator light (
) remains
on the instrument cluster
• EPS indicator light remains on the in‐ strument cluster
VSM operation off
If you press the ESC OFF button to turn
off the ESC, the VSM will also cancel and the ESC OFF indicator light (
  ) il‐
luminates.
To turn on the VSM, press the button again. The ESC OFF indicator light goes
out.
Malfunction indicator
The VSM can be deactivated even if you
don’t cancel the VSM operation by pressing the ESC OFF button. It indi‐
cates that a malfunction has been de‐
tected somewhere in the Electric Pow‐ er Steering system or VSM system.
If the ESC indicator light (
) or EPS
warning light remains on, have the sys‐ tem checked by a professional work‐
shop. Kia recommends to visit an au‐
thorized Kia dealer/service partner.
NOTICE
•The VSM is designed to function
above approximately 15 km/h (9
mph) on curves.
•The VSM is designed to function
above approximately 30 km/h (18
mph) when a vehicle is braking on
a split-mu road. The split-mu road
is made of surfaces which have
different friction forces.
WARNING
•The Vehicle Stability Managementsystem is not a substitute for safedriving practices but a supplemen‐tary function only. It is the respon‐sibility of the driver to alwayscheck the speed and the distanceto the vehicle ahead. Always holdthe steering wheel firmly whiledriving.

•Your vehicle is designed to activateaccording to the driver’s intention, even with installed VSM. Alwaysfollow all the normal precautionsfor driving at safe speeds for theconditions – including driving in‐clement weather and on a slipperyroad.
•Driving with varying tire or wheelsizes may cause the VSM systemto malfunction. When replacingtires, make sure they are thesame size as your original tires.
ESS : Emergency Stop Signal (if
equipped)
The Emergency Stop Signal system
alerts the driver behind by blinking the stop light when the vehicle suddenly
stops or when the ABS activates in a
stop. (The system activates when the vehicle speed is over 55km/h and the
vehicle deceleration is over 7m/s² or the
ABS activates when the vehicle emer‐ gency braking.)
When the vehicle speed is under 40
km/h and the ABS deactivates or the
sudden stop situation is over, the stop light blinking will stop.

FORWARD COLLISION-AVOIDANCE ASSIST (FCA) SYSTEM (IF EQUIPPED)
The FCA system is to reduce or to avoid
accident risk. It recognizes the distance
from the vehicle ahead or the pedes‐ trian through the sensors (i.e. radar
and camera), and, if necessary, warns
the driver of accident risk with the warning message or the warning
alarms.
WARNING
Take the following precautions whenusing the Forward Collision-Avoid‐ance Assist (FCA) System:•This system is only a supplemen‐tal system and it is not intendedto, nor does it replace the need forextreme care and attention of thedriver. The sensing range and ob‐jects detectable by the sensors arelimited. Pay attention to the roadconditions at all times.
•NEVER drive too fast in accordancewith the road conditions or whilecornering.
(Continued)
(Continued)
•Always drive cautiously to preventunexpected and sudden situationsfrom occurring. FCA does not stopthe vehicle completely and doesnot avoid collisions.
System setting and activation
System setting
The driver can activate the FCA by plac‐
ing the ignition switch to the ON posi‐
tion and by selecting 'User Settings', 'Driving Assist', and 'Forward Collision-
Avoidance Assist (FCA)'. The FCA deac‐
tivates, when the driver cancels the system setting.
The warning light illuminates on the LCD display, when youcancel the FCA system.
The driver can monitor the FCAON/OFF status on the LCD display.
When the warning light remains ON
with the FCA activated, have the sys‐tem checked by a professional work‐
shop. Kia recommends to visit an au‐
thorized Kia dealer/service partner. The driver can select the initial warning
activation time in the User Settings and Driving Assist in the instrument cluster
LCD display. The options for the initial
Forward Collision Warning include the following:
• EARLY - When this condition is se‐
lected, the initial Forward
Collision Warning is activa‐ted earlier than normal. This setting maximizesthe amount of distance
between the vehicle or
pedestrian ahead beforethe initial warning occurs.
• NORMAL - When this condition is se‐
lected, the initial Forward
Collision Warning is activa‐ted normally. This settingallows for a nominalamount of distance be‐
tween the vehicle or pe‐
destrian ahead before theinitial warning occurs.
• LATE - When this condition is se‐ lected, the initial Forward
Collision Warning is activa‐ted later than normal.
This setting reduces theamount of distance be‐
