nSeatback pockets
Do not put heavy or sharp objects inthe seatback pockets. In an accidentthey could come loose from thepocket and injure vehicle occupants.
Rear seat adjustment
Headrest (if equipped)
The rear seat is equipped with headr‐
ests for the occupant's safety and comfort. The headrest not only provides comfort
for passengers, but also helps to pro‐
tect the head and neck in the event of
a collision.
WARNING
•For maximum effectiveness incase of an accident, the headrestshould be adjusted so the middleof the headrest is at the sameheight as the center of gravity ofan occupant's head. Generally, thecenter of gravity of most people'shead is similar with the height ofthe top of their eyes. Also adjustthe headrest as close to your headas possible. For this reason, theuse of a cushion that holds thebody away from the seatback isnot recommended.
•Do not operate the vehicle withthe headrests removed. Severe in‐jury to an occupant may occur inthe event of an accident. Headr‐ests may provide protectionagainst severe neck injuries whenproperly adjusted.
Adjusting the height up and down (ifequipped)
To raise the headrest, pull it up to the
desired position (1). To lower the head‐ rest, push and hold the release button
(2) on the headrest support and lower
the headrest to the desired position (3).

Removal and installation (if equipped)
To remove the headrest, raise it as far
as it can go then press the release but‐ ton (1) while pulling upward (2).
To reinstall the headrest, put the head‐
rest poles (3) into the holes while
pressing the release button (1). Then adjust it to the appropriate height.
WARNING
Make sure the headrest locks in po‐sition after adjusting it to properlyprotect the occupants.
Folding the rear seat (if equipped)
The rear seatbacks may be folded to
facilitate carrying long items or to in‐
crease the luggage capacity of the ve‐ hicle.
WARNING
The purpose of the fold-down rearseatbacks is to allow you to carrylonger objects than could not other‐wise be accommodated.Never allow passengers to sit on topof the folded down seatback whilethe car is moving as this is not aproper seating position and no seatbelts are available for use. This couldresult in serious injury or death incase of an accident or sudden stop.Objects carried on the folded downseatback should not extend higherthan the top of the front seats. Thiscould allow cargo to slide forwardand cause injury or damage duringsudden stops.
The rear seatbacks may be folded for‐
ward to provide additional cargo space and to provide access to the cargo area. • To raise the seatback, lift and push it firmly until it clicks into place. • When you return the seatback to its
upright position, reposition the rear
safety belts so that they can be used
by rear seat passengers.
WARNING
Do not fold the rear seat, if the driv‐er's position is not properly set ac‐cording to the driver's physical figureafter folding the rear seat. A suddenstop or collision may cause injury.
CAUTION
•When folding or unfolding the rearseat, make sure to move the frontseat fully forward. If there are notenough space to fold the rear seat,never fold it by force. It will causedamage to the headrest or the re‐lated parts of the seat.
•Before using the seat belt, be sureto remove it from the holder. Ifyou pull out the seat belt while it'sin the holder, it may damage theseat belt or holder.

•Use the holder only when there isno passengers in the rear seat orwhen you need to fold the rearseat.
To fold down the rear seatback:1. When folding the seat back, insert the rear seat belt buckle in the
pocket between the rear seatback
and cushion then make sure both
seatbelts do not interfere with
stowed luggage and cargo. Then,
insert the seat belt into the two
holes located on both sides. 2. Set the front seatback to the up‐
right position and if necessary, slide the front seat forward.
3. Lower the rear headrests to lowest position.
4. Pull the lock release lever and foldthe rear seatback forward and
down firmly.
To unfold the rear seat
1. To use the rear seat, lift and pull the seatback backward. Pull the
seatback firmly until it clicks into
place. Make sure the seatback is
locked in place. When you return
the seatback to its upright position, always be sure it has locked into
position by pushing on the top of
the seatback.
If you can not see the red line at
the bottom of folding lever, it
means the seatback is locked com‐
pletely.
2. Return the rear seat belt to the proper position.
3. When the seatback is completely installed, check the seatback fold‐
ing lever again.
WARNING
nUprighting seat
When you return the seatback to itsupright position, hold the seatbackand return it slowly. If the seatbackis returned without holding it, theback of the seat could spring for‐

ward resulting in injury caused bybeing struck by the seatback.
WARNING
After folding the rear seat, unlessthe driver’s position is properly setaccording to the driver’s physical fig‐ure, do not fold the rear seat. It mayincrease body injuries in a suddenstop or collision.
WARNING
When you return the rear seatbackto its upright position after beingfolded down:Be careful not to damage the seatbelt webbing or buckle. Do not allowthe seat belt webbing or buckle toget caught or pinched in the rearseat. Ensure that the seatback iscompletely locked into its uprightposition by pushing on the top of theseatback. Otherwise, in an accidentor sudden stop, the seat could fold

down and allow cargo enter the pas‐senger compartment, which couldresult in serious injury or death.
CAUTION
nDamaging rear seat belt buck‐les
When you fold the rear seatback, in‐sert the buckle between the rearseatback and cushion. Doing so canprevent the buckle from being dam‐aged by the rear seatback.
CAUTION
nRear seat belts
When returning the rear seatbacksto the upright position, remember toreturn the rear shoulder belts totheir proper position.
WARNING
nCargo
Cargo should always be secured toprevent it from being thrown aboutthe vehicle in a collision and causinginjury to the vehicle occupants. Donot place objects in the rear seats,since they cannot be properly se‐cured and may hit the front seat oc‐cupants in a collision.
WARNING
nCargo loading
Make sure the engine is off, the au‐tomatic transaxle is in P (Park) orthe manual transaxle is in 1st, andthe parking brake is securely appliedwhenever loading or unloading cargo.Failure to take these steps may al‐low the vehicle to move if the shiftlever is inadvertently moved to an‐other position.

SEAT BELTS
Seat belt restraint system
WARNING
•For maximum restraint systemprotection, the seat belts must al‐ways be used whenever the car ismoving.
•Seat belts are most effective whenseatbacks are in the upright posi‐tion.
•Children age 12 and younger mustalways be properly restrained inthe rear seat. Never allow childrento ride in the front passenger seat.If a child over 12 must be seated inthe front seat, he/she must beproperly belted and the seatshould be moved as far back aspossible.
•Never wear the shoulder belt un‐der your arm or behind your back.An improperly positioned shoulderbelt can cause serious injuries in acrash. The shoulder belt should bepositioned midway over yourshoulder across your collarbone.

•Never wear a seat belt over fragileobjects. If there is a sudden stopor impact, the seat belt can dam‐age it.
•Avoid wearing twisted seat belts.A twisted belt can't do its job aswell. In a collision, it could even cutinto you. Be sure the belt webbingis straight and not twisted.
•Be careful not to damage the beltwebbing or hardware. If the beltwebbing or hardware is damaged,replace it.
WARNING
Seat belts are designed to bear uponthe bony structure of the body, andshould be worn low across the frontof the pelvis or the pelvis, chest andshoulders, as applicable; wearing thelap section of the belt across the ab‐dominal area must be avoided.Seat belts should be adjusted asfirmly as possible, consistent withcomfort, to provide the protectionfor which they have been designed.

A slack belt will greatly reduce theprotection afforded to the wearer.Care should be taken to avoid con‐tamination of the webbing with pol‐ishes, oils and chemicals, and partic‐ularly battery acid.Cleaning may safely be carried outusing mild soap and water. The beltshould be replaced if webbing be‐comes frayed, contaminated ordamaged.It is essential to replace the entireassembly after it has been worn in asevere impact even if damage to theassembly is not obvious. Belts shouldnot be worn with straps twisted.Each belt assembly must only beused by one occupant; it is danger‐ous to put a belt around a child beingcarried on the occupant's lap.

WARNING
•No modifications or additionsshould be made by the user whichwill either prevent the seat beltadjusting devices from operatingto remove slack, or prevent theseat belt assembly from being ad‐justed to remove slack.
•When you fasten the seat belt, becareful not to latch the seat belt inbuckles of other seat. It's verydangerous and you may not beprotected by the seat belt proper‐ly.
•Do not unfasten the seat belt anddo not fasten and unfasten theseat belt repeatedly while driving.This could result in loss of control,and an accident causing death, se‐rious injury, or property damage.
•When fastening the seat belt,make sure that the seat belt doesnot pass over objects that are hardor can break easily.
•Make sure there is nothing in thebuckle. The seat belt may not befastened securely.
Front seat belt warning (if
equipped)

As a reminder to the front seat belt,
the front seat belt warning lights will il‐ luminate for approximately 6 seconds
each time you turn the ignition switch
ON regardless of belt fastening.
If the front seat belt is not fastened when the ignition switch is turned ON
or if it is disconnected after the ignition
switch is turned ON, the corresponding seat belt warning light will illuminate
until the belt is fastened.
If you continue not to fasten the seat
belt and you drive over 9km/h, the illu‐ minated warning light will start to blink. If you continue not to fasten the seat
belt and you drive over 20km/h the
seat belt warning chime will sound for approximately 100 seconds and the
corresponding warning light will blink.
If you unfasten the seat belt while driv‐
ing under 20km/h the seat belt warning light will illuminate until the seat belt is
fastened.
WARNING
Riding in an improper position ad‐versely affects the front seat beltwarning system. It is important forthe driver to instruct the passengerto properly be seated as instructedin this manual.
NOTICE
•You can find the front passenger’s
seat belt warning light on the cen‐
ter fascia panel.

•Although the front passenger seat
is not occupied, the seat belt
warning light will blink or illumi‐
nate for 6 seconds.
•The front passenger's seat belt
warning may operate when lug‐
gage is placed on the front pas‐
senger seat.
Rear passenger’s seat belt warning
(if equipped)

If the ignition switch is turned ON (en‐
gine is not running) when the rear pas‐ senger's lap/shoulder belt is not fas‐
tened, the corresponding seat belt
warning light will illuminate until the belt is fastened.
And then, the rear corresponding seat
belt warning light will illuminate for ap‐
proximately 35 seconds, if any of fol‐ lowing occurs;
- You start the engine when the rear
belt is not fastened.
- You drive over 9km/h when the rear
belt is not fastened. -
The rear belt is disconnected when
driving under 20km/h.
If the rear seat belt is fastened, the
warning light will turn off immediately.
If the rear seat belt is disconnected
when you drive over the 20km/h, the corresponding seat belt warning light
will blink and warning chime will sound
for 35 seconds.
But, if the rear passenger's lap/shoul‐ der belt is/are connected and discon‐
nected twice within 9 seconds after the
belt is fastened, the corresponding seat
belt warning light will not operate.

Lap/shoulder belt
Height adjustment (front seat, if equip‐ped)

You can adjust the height of the shoul‐
der belt anchor to one of the 3 posi‐ tions for maximum comfort and safety.
The height of the adjusting seat belt
should not be too close to your neck.
The shoulder portion should be adjus‐ ted so that it lies across your chest and
midway over your shoulder near the
door and not your neck.
To adjust the height of the seat belt anchor, lower or raise the height ad‐
juster into an appropriate position. To raise the height adjuster, pull it up
(1). To lower it, push it down (3) while pressing the height adjuster button (2).
Release the button to lock the anchor
into position. Try sliding the height ad‐
juster to make sure that it has locked into position.
WARNING
•Verify the shoulder belt anchor islocked into position at the appro‐priate height. Never position theshoulder belt across your neck orface. Improperly positioned seatbelts can cause serious injuries inan accident.
•Failure to replace seat belts afteran accident could leave you withdamaged seat belts that will notprovide protection in the event ofanother collision leading to person‐al injury or death. Replace yourseat belts after being in an acci‐dent as soon as possible.
To fasten your seat belt:
To fasten your seat belt, pull it out of
the retractor and insert the metal tab (1) into the buckle (2). There will be an
audible "click" when the tab locks into
the buckle.
The seat belt automatically adjusts to the proper length only after the lap
belt portion is adjusted manually so
that it fits snugly around your hips. If you lean forward in a slow, easy mo‐
tion, the belt will extend and let you
move around. If there is a sudden stop or impact, however, the belt will lock in‐
to position. It will also lock if you try to
lean forward too quickly.

If you are not able to pull out the
seat belt from the retractor, firmly
pull the belt out and release it. Then
you will be able to pull the belt out
smoothly.
WARNING
You should place the lap belt portionas low as possible and snugly acrossyour hips, not on your waist. If thelap belt is located too high on your

waist, it may increase the chance ofinjury in the event of a collision. Botharms should not be under or overthe belt. Rather, one should be overand the other under, as shown in theillustration.Never wear the seat belt under thearm nearest the door.

WARNING
The center lap belt latching mecha‐nism is different from those for therear seat shoulder belts. When fas‐tening the rear seat shoulder beltsor the center lap belt, make surethey are inserted into the correctbuckles to obtain maximum protec‐tion from the seat belt system andassure proper operation.
Stowing the rear seat belt
The rear seat belt buckles can be stow‐
ed in the pocket between the rear
seatback and cushion when not in use.
Pre-tensioner seat belt (if
equipped)
Your vehicle is equipped with pre-ten‐
sioner seatbelts at the front and rear outboard seating positions. The pur‐
pose of the pre-tensioner is to make
sure that the seat belts fit tightly against the occupant's body in certain
collisions. The pre-tensioner seat belts
may be activated in crashes where the collision is severe enough. When the vehicle stops suddenly, or if
the occupant tries to lean forward too
quickly, the seat belt retractor will lock into position. In certain frontal colli‐
sions, the pre-tensioner will activate
and pull the seat belt into tighter con‐ tact against the occupant's body.
If the system senses excessive tension
on the driver or passenger's seat belt
when the pre-tensioner activates, the load limiter inside the pre-tensioner will
release some of the pressure on the af‐fected seat belt. (if equipped)
WARNING
For your safety, be sure that thebelt webbing is not loose or twistedand always sit properly on your seat.
NOTICE
nif equipped with rollover sen‐
sor
The pre-tensioner will activate not
only in a frontal collision but also in a
