Checking the engine oil level

1. Be sure the vehicle is on levelground.
2. Start the engine and allow it to reach normal operating tempera‐
ture.
3. Turn the engine off and wait for a few minutes (about 5 minutes) for
the oil to return to the oil pan.
4. Pull the dipstick out, wipe it clean, and re-insert it fully.

Be very careful not to touch the ra‐diator hose when checking or addingthe engine oil as it may be hotenough to burn you.
5. Pull the dipstick out again andcheck the level. The level should be
between F (Full) and L (Low).
CAUTION
•Do not overfill the engine oil. Itmay damage the engine.
•Do not spill engine oil, when add‐ing or changing engine oil. If youdrop the engine oil on the engineroom, wipe it off immediately.
•When you wipe the oil levelgauge, you should wipe it with aclean cloth. When mixed withdebris, it can cause engine dam‐age.

1. Be sure the vehicle is on levelground.

•When you wipe the oil level gauge,you should wipe it with a cleancloth. When mixed with debris, itcan cause engine damage.

If it is near or at L (Low), add enough oil
to bring the level to F (Full). Do notoverfill.

Recommended SAE viscosity number
CAUTION
Always be sure to clean the area around any filler plug, drain plug, or dipstick before checking or draining any lubricant.This is especially important in dusty or sandy areas and when the vehicle is used on unpaved roads. Cleaning the plug anddipstick areas will prevent dirt and grit from entering the engine and other mechanisms that could be damaged.
Engine oil viscosity (thickness) has an effect on fuel economy and cold weather operating (engine start and engine oil flowabil‐
ity). Lower viscosity engine oils can provide better fuel economy and cold weather performance, however, higher viscosity en‐ gine oils are required for satisfactory lubrication in hot weather. Using oils of any viscosity other than those recommended
could result in engine damage.
When choosing an oil, consider the range of temperature your vehicle will be operated in before the next oil change. Proceed to select the recommended oil viscosity from the chart.
