Cruise control can be set when
The shift position is in D.
Vehicle speed is above approximately 40 km/h (25 mph).
Accelerating after setting the vehicle speed
The vehicle can be accelerated normally. After acceleration, the set speed
resumes.
Even without canceling the cruise control, the set speed can be increased by
first accelerating the vehicle to the desired speed and then pushing the lever
down to set the new speed.
Automatic cruise control cancelation
Cruise control will stop maintaining the vehicle speed in any of the following sit-
uations.
Actual vehicle speed falls more than approximately 16 km/h (10 mph) below
the preset vehicle speed.
At this time, the memorized set speed is not retained.
Actual vehicle speed is below approximately 40km/h (25 mph).
VSC is activated.
If the warning message for the cruise control is shown on the multi-information
display
Press the “ON-OFF” button once to deactivate the system, and then press the
button again to reactivate the system.
If the cruise control speed cannot be set or if the cruise control cancels immedi-
ately after being activated, there may be a malfunction in the cruise control sys-
tem. Have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Lexus dealer or repairer, or
another duly qualified and equipped professional.
WA R N I N G
To avoid operating the cruise control by mistake
Switch the cruise control off using the “ON-OFF” button when not in use.
Situations unsuitable for cruise control
Do not use cruise control in any of the following situations.
Doing so may result in loss of control and could cause an accident resulting in
death or serious injury.
In heavy traffic
On roads with sharp bends
On winding roads
On slippery roads, such as those covered with rain, ice or snow
On steep hills
Vehicle speed may exceed the set speed when driving down a steep hill.
During emergency towing

Situations unsuitable for dynamic radar cruise control
Do not use dynamic radar cruise control in any of the following situations.
Doing so may result in inappropriate speed control and could cause an accident
resulting in death or serious injury.
In heavy traffic
On roads with sharp bends
On winding roads
On slippery roads, such as those covered with rain, ice or snow
On steep downhills, or where there are sudden changes between sharp up and
down gradients
Vehicle speed may exceed the set speed when driving down a steep hill.
At entrances to expressways
When weather conditions are bad enough that they may prevent the sensors
from functioning correctly (fog, snow, sandstorm, heavy rain, etc.)
When an approach warning buzzer is heard often
During emergency towing
When the sensor may not be correctly detecting the vehicle ahead
Apply the brakes as necessary when any of the following types of vehicles are
in front of you.
As the sensor may not be able to correctly detect these types of vehicles, the
approach warning (P. 237) will not be activated, and a fatal or serious acci-
dent may result.
Vehicles that cut in suddenly
Vehicles traveling at low speeds
Vehicles that are not moving
Vehicles with small rear ends (trailers with no load on board etc.)
Motorcycles traveling in the same lane

If your vehicle needs to be towed
In the following situations, it is not possible to be towed by another vehi-
cle using cable or chain, as the front wheels may be locked due to the
parking lock. Contact any authorized Lexus dealer or repairer, or another
duly qualified and equipped professional or a commercial towing service.
There is a malfunction in the P position control system. (P. 581)
There is a malfunction in the immobilizer system. (P. 87)
There is a malfunction in the smart entry & start system. (P. 622)
The 12-volt battery is discharged. (P. 624)
If towing is necessary, we recommend having your vehicle towed by any
authorized Lexus dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and
equipped professional or a commercial towing service, using a lift-type
truck or flat bed truck.
Use a safety chain system for all towing, and abide by all state/provincial
and local laws.
If towing your vehicle with a wheel-lift type truck from the front, the
vehicle’s rear wheels and axles must be in good conditions. (P. 563,
566)
If they are damaged, use a towing dolly or flatbed truck.

When trouble arises
The following may indicate a problem with your hybrid transmission.
Contact any authorized Lexus dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified
and equipped professional before towing.
The hybrid warning message shows on and the vehicle does not move.
The vehicle makes an abnormal sound.
Do not tow with a sling-type truck
to prevent body damage.
Situations needs to contact dealers before towing
Towing with a sling-type truck
Towing with a wheel-lift type truck

Release the parking brake. Use a towing dolly under the front
wheels.

If your Lexus is transported by a
flat bed truck, it should be tied
down at the locations shown in the
illustration.
If you use chains or cables to tie
down your vehicle, the angles
shaded in black must be 45.
Do not overly tighten the tie downs
or the vehicle may be damaged.
If a tow truck is not available in an emergency, your vehicle may be tem-
porarily towed using a cable or chain secured to the emergency towing
eyelet(s). This should only be attempted on hard surfaced roads for short
distances at under 30 km/h (18 mph).
A driver must be in the vehicle to steer and operate the brakes. The vehi-
cle’s wheels, drive train, axles, steering and brakes must be in good con-
dition.

When trouble arises
Take out the towing eyelet. (P. 592, 606)
Remove the eyelet cover using a
flathead screwdriver.
To protect the bodywork, place a rag
between the screwdriver and the
vehicle body as shown in the illus-
tration.
Insert the towing eyelet into the
hole and tighten partially by
hand.
Tighten down the towing eyelet
securely using a wheel nut
wrench.
Securely attach a cable or chain to the towing eyelet.
Take care not to damage the vehicle body.
Enter the vehicle being towed and start the hybrid system.
If the hybrid system does not start, turn the power switch to ON mode.
Shift the shift position to N and release the parking brake.

Observe the following precautions.
Failure to do so may result in death or serious injury.
When transporting the vehicle
While towing
When towing using a rope, avoid sudden starts, etc. which place excessive
stress on the towing hook and rope.
The towing hook or rope may become damaged, broken debris may hit people
and cause serious damage.
Do not turn the power switch off.
This may lead to an accident as the front wheels will be locked by the parking
lock.
Installing towing eyelets to the vehicle
Make sure that towing eyelets are installed securely.
If not securely installed, towing eyelets may come loose during towing.
NOTICE
To prevent damage to the vehicle when towing using a wheel-lift type truck
When raising the vehicle, ensure adequate ground clearance for towing at the
opposite end of the raised vehicle. Without adequate clearance, the vehicle
could be damaged while being towed.
To prevent body damage when towing with a sling-type truck
Do not tow with a sling-type truck, either from the front or rear.
Be sure to transport the vehicle with the
front wheels raised or with all four wheels
raised off the ground. If the vehicle is
towed with the front wheels contacting the
ground, the drivetrain and related parts
may be damaged or electricity generated
by the operation of the motor may cause a
fire to occur depending on the nature of the
damage or malfunction.
