Safety information for children
It is recommended that children sit in the rear seats to avoid accidental
contact with the shift lever, wiper switch etc.
Use the rear door child-protector lock or the window lock switch to
avoid children opening the door while driving or operating the power
window accidentally. (P. 136, 178)
Do not let small children operate equipment which may catch or pinch
body parts, such as the power window, hood, back door, seats etc.
Observe the following precautions when children are in the vehicle.
Use a child restraint system appropriate for the child, until the child
becomes large enough to properly wear the vehicle’s seat belt.
WA R N I N G
Never leave children unattended in the vehicle, and never allow children to
have or use the key.
Children may be able to start the vehicle or shift the vehicle into neutral. There
is also a danger that children may injure themselves by playing with the win-
dows, the moon roof (if equipped) or other features of the vehicle. In addition,
heat build-up or extremely cold temperatures inside the vehicle can be fatal to
children.

For safety and security
Alarm
The alarm uses light and sound to give an alert when an intrusion is
detected.
The alarm is triggered in the following situations when the alarm is set:
A locked door is unlocked or opened in any way other than using the
entry function (if equipped) or wireless remote control.
The hood is opened.
The intrusion sensor detects something moving inside the vehicle. (An
intruder gets in the vehicle.)
The tilt sensor detects a change of vehicle inclination. (if equipped)
The back door window is broken. (if equipped)
Close the doors and hood, and lock
all the doors using the entry func-
tion (if equipped) or wireless
remote control. The system will be
set automatically after 30 seconds.
The indicator light changes from
being on to flashing when the system
is set.

Triggering of the alarm
The alarm may be triggered in the following situations:
(Stopping the alarm deactivates the alarm system.)
Alarm-operated door lock
When the alarm is operating, the doors are locked automatically to prevent
intruders.
Do not leave the key inside the vehicle when the alarm is operating, and make
sure the key is not inside the vehicle when recharging or replacing the 12-volt
battery.
Customization
The alarm can be set to deactivate when the mechanical key is used to unlock.
(Customizable features: P. 650)
The doors are unlocked using the mechan-
ical key.
A person inside the vehicle opens a door
or hood.
The 12-volt battery is recharged or
replaced when the vehicle is locked. (P.
625)
NOTICE
To ensure the system operates correctly
Do not modify or remove the system. If modified or removed, the proper oper-
ation of the system cannot be guaranteed.

Hood
Pull the hood lock release lever.
The hood will pop up slightly.
Pull up the auxiliary catch lever
and lift the hood.
Hold the hood open by inserting
the supporting rod into the slot.
Release the lock from the inside of the vehicle to open the hood.

Maintenance and care
WA R N I N G
Pre-driving check
Check that the hood is fully closed and locked.
If the hood is not locked properly, it may open while the vehicle is in motion
and cause an accident, which may result in death or serious injury.
After installing the support rod into the slot
Make sure the rod supports the hood securely from falling down on to your
head or body.
NOTICE
When closing the hood
Be sure to return the support rod to its clip before closing the hood. Closing the
hood without returning the support rod properly could cause the hood to bend.

If the 12-volt battery is discharged
If you have a set of jumper (or booster) cables and a second vehicle with a
12-volt battery, you can jump start your vehicle by following the steps
below.
Open the hood (P. 492) and
fuse box cover.
Open the exclusive jump starting
terminal cover.
The following procedures may be used to start the hybrid system if the
vehicle’s 12-volt battery is discharged.
You can also call any authorized Lexus dealer or repairer, or another duly
qualified and equipped professional.

Start the hybrid system and check for the multi-information display.
If the message does not disappear:
Stop the hybrid system and contact any authorized Lexus dealer or
repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped professional.
If the message is not displayed:
Have the vehicle inspected at the nearest any authorized Lexus
dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped profes-
sional.
WA R N I N G
To prevent an accident or injury when inspecting under the hood of your vehicle
Observe the following precautions.
Failure to do so may result in serious injury such as burns.
If steam is seen coming from under the hood, do not open the hood until the
steam has subsided. The engine compartment may be very hot.
After the hybrid system has been turned off, check that the indicator on the
power switch and the “READY” indicator are off.
When the hybrid system is operating, the gasoline engine may automatically
start, or the cooling fan may suddenly operate even if the gasoline engine
stops. Do not touch or approach rotating parts such as the fan, which may lead
to fingers or clothing (especially a tie, a scarf or a muffler) getting caught,
resulting in serious injury.
Do not loosen the coolant reservoir cap while the hybrid system and radiator
are hot.
High temperature steam or coolant could spray out.
NOTICE
When adding engine/power control unit coolant
Add coolant slowly after the hybrid system has cooled down sufficiently. Add-
ing cool coolant to a hot hybrid system too quickly can cause damage to the
hybrid system.
To prevent damage to the cooling system
Observe the following precautions:
Avoid contaminating the coolant with foreign matter (such as sand or dust
etc.).
Do not use any coolant additive.
