onds then turns off. Afterward, the green indicator light comes on, indicat-
ing that the service is active.
The following indicator light patter ns indicate specific system usage con-
ditions:
●Green indicator light on = Active service
●Green indicator light flashing = Safety Connect call in process
●Red indicator light (except at vehicle start-up) = System malfunction
(contact your Lexus dealer)
●No indicator light (off) = Safety Connect service not active
■Automatic Collision Notification
In case of either airbag deployment or severe rear-end collision, the
system is designed to automatically call the response center. The
responding agent receives the vehicl e’s location and attempts to speak
with the vehicle occupants to assess the level of emergency. If the occu-
pants are unable to communicate, th e agent automatically treats the
call as an emergency, contacts th e nearest emergency services pro-
vider to describe the situation, and re quests that assistance be sent to
the location.

Important! Read this information before using Safety Connect.
■Exposure to radio frequency signals
The Safety Connect system installed in your vehicle is a low-power
radio transmitter and receiver. It receives and also sends out radio fre-
quency (RF) signals.
In August 1996, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC)
adopted RF exposure guid elines with safety levels for mobile wireless
phones. Those guidelines are consistent with the safety standards previ-
ously set by the following U.S. and international standards bodies.
●ANSI (American National Standards Institute) C95.1 [1992]
●NCRP (National Council on Radi ation Protection and Measure-
ment) Report 86 [1986]
●ICNIRP (International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Pro-
tection) [1996]
Those standards were based on comprehensive and periodic evalua-
tions of the relevant scientific litera ture. Over 120 scientists, engineers,
and physicians from universities, and government health agencies and
industries reviewed the available body of research to develop the ANSI
Standard (C95.1).
The design of Safety Connect co mplies with the FCC guidelines in
addition to those standards.

CAUTION
■When washing the vehicle
Do not apply water to the inside of the engine compartment. Doing so may cause
the electrical components etc. to catch fire.
■When cleaning the windshield (with rain-sensing windshield wipers)
●When the upper part of the windshield where the raindrop sensor is located is
touched by hand
●When a wet rag or similar is held close to the raindrop sensor
●If something bumps against the windshield
●If you directly touch the raindrop sensor body or if something bumps into the
raindrop sensor
■Precautions regarding exhaust pipes
Exhaust gases cause exhaust pipes to become quite hot.
When washing the vehicle, be careful not to touch any pipes until they have cooled
sufficiently, as touching hot exhaust pipes can cause burns.
■Precaution regarding the Blin d Spot Monitor (if equipped)
If the paint of the rear bumper is chipped or scratched, the system may malfunc-
tion. If this occurs, consult your Lexus dealer.
Turn off the wiper switch.
If AUTO mode is selected, the wipers may
operate unexpectedly in the following situa-
tions, and may result in hands being caught
or other serious inju ries and cause damage
to the wiper blades.

6-2. Maintenance
■Repair and replacement
It is recommended that genuine Lexus parts be used for repairs to ensure perfor-
mance of each system. If non-Lexus parts are used in replacement or if a repair shop
other than a Lexus dealer performs repairs, confirm the warranty coverage.
■Reset the maintenance data (U.S.A. only)
After the required maintenance is performed according to the maintenance sched-
ule, please reset the maintenance data.
To reset the data, follow th e procedure described below:
Switch the display to the trip meter “A” ( P. 94) when the engine
is running
Turn the “START STOP ENGINE” <“POWER”> switch off.
While pressing the “ODO TRIP” button ( P. 94), turn the “START STOP
ENGINE” <“POWER”> switch to the IGNITION ON

●Lexus technicians are well-trained specialist s and are kept up to date with the latest
service information. They are well informed about the operations of all systems on
your vehicle.
●Keep a copy of the repair order. It proves that the maintenance that has been per-
formed is under warranty coverage. If any problem should arise while your vehicle
is under warranty, your Lexus dealer will promptly take care of it. The message shown in the illustration will

Improper maintenance could result in serious damage to the vehicle and possible
death or serious injury.
■Handling of the 12-volt battery
●Engine exhaust, some of its constituents , and a wide variety of automobile com-
ponents contain or emit chemicals known to the State of California to cause can-
cer and birth defects and other reproductive harm. Work in a well ventilated area.
●Oils, fuels and fluids contained in vehicles as well as waste produced by compo-
nent wear contain or emit chemicals known to the State of California to cause
cancer and birth defects or other repr oductive harm. Avoid exposure and wash
any affected area immediately.
●12-volt battery posts, terminals and related accessories contain lead and lead
compounds which are known to cause br ain damage. Wash your hands after
handling. ( P. 6 8 5 , 6 9 0 )
