Only in an emergency, such as if it becomes impossible to stop the vehicle in the normal way,
stop the vehicle using the following procedure:
1Steadily step on the brake pedal with both feet and firmly depress it.
Do not pump the brake pedal re peatedly as this will increase the effort required to slow
the vehicle.
2Shift the shift lever to N.
If the shift lever is shifted to N
3After slowing down, stop the vehicle in a safe place by the road.
4Stop the engine.
If the shift lever cannot be shifted to N

*1: Shifting to the D position allows the system to select a gear suitable for the driving condi-
tions. Setting the shift lever to the D position is recommended for normal driving. You
can choose shift range suitable for your driving situation by operating the paddle shift
switches.
*2: Selecting shift ranges using S mode restricts the upper limit of the possible gear ranges,
controls engine braking force, an d prevents unnecessary upshifting.
To drive using temporary shift ra nge selection, operate the “-” paddle shift switch. The shift
range can then be selected by operatin g the “-” and “+” paddle shift switches.

2Downshifting
The selected shift range, from D1 to D8, will
be displayed in the meter.

To enter S mode, shift the shift lever to S. Shift ranges can be selected by operating the shift
lever or paddle shift switches, allowing yo u to drive in the gear of your choosing.
1Upshifting
2Downshifting
The initial shift range in S mode is set auto-
matically to 4, 5 or 6 according to vehicle’s
speed. However, the in itial shift range may
be set to 3 if AI-SHIFT has operated while
the shift lever was in the D position. (P.19)
A lower shift range will provid e greater engine braking forces than a higher shift range.
