For safety and security
Tilt sensor detection considerations (if equipped)
The sensor may trigger the alarm in the following situations:
The vehicle is transported by a ferry, trailer, train, etc.
The vehicle is parked in a parking garage.
The vehicle is inside a car wash that moves the vehicle.
Any of the tires loses air pressure.
The vehicle is jacked up.
An earthquake occurs or the road caves in.
NOTICE
To ensure the intrusion sensor function correctly
Installing accessories other than genuine Lexus parts or leaving objects
between the driver’s seat and front passenger’s seat may reduce the detec-
tion performance.
To ensure that the sensors operate prop-
erly, do not touch or cover them.
Do not spray air fresheners or other
products directly into the sensor holes.

When starting off on a uphill
The hill-start assist control is available. (P. 339)
Driving in the rain
Drive carefully when it is raining, because visibility will be reduced, the
windows may become fogged-up, and the road will be slippery.
Drive carefully when it starts to rain, because the road surface will be espe-
cially slippery.
Refrain from high speeds when driving on an expressway in the rain,
because there may be a layer of water between the tires and the road sur-
face, preventing the steering and brakes from operating properly.
Engine speed while driving
In the following conditions, the engine speed may become high while driv-
ing. This is due to automatic up-shifting control or down-shifting implemen-
tation to meet driving conditions. It does not indicate sudden acceleration.
The vehicle is judged to be driving uphill or downhill
When the accelerator pedal is released
When sport mode is selected (P. 3 2 6 )

CAUTION
When taking a nap in the vehicle
Always turn the engine off. Otherwise, if you accidentally move the shift
lever or depress the accelerator pedal, this could cause an accident or fire
due to engine overheating. Additionally, if the vehicle is parked in a poorly
ventilated area, exhaust gases may collect and enter the vehicle, leading to
death or a serious health hazard.
When braking
When the brakes are wet, drive more cautiously.
Braking distance increases when the brakes are wet, and this may cause
one side of the vehicle to brake differently than the other side. Also, the
parking brake may not securely hold the vehicle.
If the power brake assist function does not operate, do not follow other
vehicles closely and avoid hills or sharp turns that require braking.
In this case, braking is still possible, but the brake pedal should be
depressed more firmly than usual. Also, the braking distance will
increase.
The brake system consists of 2 individual hydraulic systems; if one of the
systems fails, the other will still operate. In this case, the brake pedal
should be depressed more firmly than usual and the braking distance will
increase.
If this happens, do not continue to drive the vehicle. Have your brakes
fixed immediately.
If the vehicle becomes stuck
Do not spin the wheels excessively when any of the tires is up in the air, or
the vehicle is stuck in sand, mud, etc. This may damage the driveline com-
ponents or propel the vehicle forward or backward, causing an accident.

Tire information
Increase the tire inflation pressure to 20.0 kPa (0.2 kgf/cm2 or bar, 3 psi)
greater than the recommended value when towing. (P. 850)
Increase the air pressure of the trailer tires in accordance with the total
trailer weight and according to the values recommended by the manufac-
turer of your trailer.
Break-in schedule
Lexus recommends that vehicles fitted with new power train components
should not be used for towing trailers for the first 800 km (500 miles).
Safety checks before towing
Check that the maximum load limit for the towing hitch/bracket hitch ball is
not exceeded. Bear in mind that the coupling weight of the trailer will add
to the load exerted on the vehicle. Also make sure that you will not be tow-
ing a load that exceeds the maximum permissible axle capacity.
Ensure that the trailer load is secure.
Supplementary outside rear view mirrors should be added to the vehicle if
the traffic behind cannot be clearly seen with standard mirrors. Adjust the
extending arms of these mirrors on both sides of the vehicle so that they
always provide maximum visibility of the road behind.
Maintenance
Maintenance must be performed more frequently when using the vehicle
for towing due to the greater weight burden placed on the vehicle compared
to normal driving.
Retighten all bolts securing the hitching ball and bracket after towing for
approximately 1000 km (600 miles).

When driving on roads that are branching or merging
When driving on a road surface that is wet due to rain, previous rainfall,
standing water, etc.
When the vehicle experiences strong up-and-down motion such as when
driving on an extremely rough road or on a seam in the pavement
When headlight brightness at nighttime is reduced due to dirt on the lenses,
or when the headlights are misaligned
When driving with a strong crosswind
When driving on winding roads or roads that are uneven
When driving on rough or unpaved roads
When changing the tires
Depending on the tires used, sufficient performance may not be maintain-
able.
Warning messages for LKA
Warning messages are used to indicate a system malfunction or to inform the
driver of the need for caution while driving. (P. 760, 767)
CAUTION
Before using the LKA system
Do not rely solely on the LKA system. The LKA system does not drive the
vehicle automatically, nor does it reduce the amount of care you need to
take. As such, the driver must always assume full responsibility for under-
standing his/her surroundings, for operating the steering wheel to correct
the driving line, and for driving safely.
Inappropriate or negligent driving could lead to an accident.
To avoid operating the LKA by mistake
Switch the LKA off using the “LKA” switch when not in use.

CAUTION
Situations unsuitable for LKA
Do not use LKA in any of the following situations.
Otherwise, the system may not function correctly and could result in an
accident.
When driving with snow tires, tire chains, a spare tire, or similar equip-
ment
When the tires have been excessively worn, or when the tire inflation
pressure is low
When there are objects or structures along the roadside that might be mis-
interpreted as lane markers (such as guardrails, curb, reflector posts, etc.)
When driving on snowy roads
When pavement lane markers are difficult to see due to rain, snow, fog,
etc.
When there are visible lines on the pavement from road repairs, or if the
remains of old lane markers are still visible on the road
When driving on slippery roads, such as those covered with rain, ice or
snow
When driving in a lane other than the driving or passing lanes on a free-
way or highway
When driving on a road with lane closures due to maintenance, or when
driving in a temporary lane
When towing a trailer
NOTICE
To prevent damage to or incorrect operation of the LKA system
Do not modify the headlights or attach stickers to the surface of the lights.
Do not modify the suspension, or replace them with non-genuine parts.
Do not install or place anything on the hood or the grille. Also, do not
install a grille guard (bull bars, kangaroo bar etc.).
Do not modify the sun visor or replace it with anything other than a genu-
ine Lexus product.
If your windshield needs repairs, contact any authorized Lexus dealer or
repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped professional.

Make sure the monitor displays the part behind the rear tires of
the parked vehicle, and select .
If the area is not displayed, move the vehicle to forward.
With the steering wheel straight, back up slowly to a position
at which the black and yellow vertical pole just overlaps the
rear end of the parked vehicle. Then stop the vehicle.
