Opening the fuel tank cap
Perform the following steps to open the fuel tank cap.
■Before refueling the vehicle
Turn the engine switch “OFF” and ensur
e that all the doors and win-
dows are closed.
■ Opening the fuel tank cap

Closing the fuel tank cap
After refueling, turn the fuel tank
cap clockwise until you hear a
click. The cap will revolve slightly in
the opposite direction once
released.
■Fuel types
Use premium unleaded gasoline. (91 Octane Rating [Research Octane Number
96
] or higher)
■Fuel tank capacity
Approximately 18.7 gal. (71 L, 15.6 Imp. gal.)
■When the fuel filler door opener switch is inoperable
If the fuel filler door opener switch is inopera-
ble, contact your Lexus dealer to service the
vehicle. If you must refuel your vehicle, you
can open the fuel filler door manually as
shown. The system to lower internal pressure
may not be functioning so you must turn the
cap slowly as the pressure releases. In addi-
tion, fuel may spill out during refueling. Fill the
fuel tank carefully and slowly.

CAUTION
■When refueling the vehicle
Observe the following precautions while refueling the vehicle. Failure to do so, may
result in death or serious injury.
●Touch the vehicle or some other metal surface to discharge any static electricity.
Sparks resulting from discharging static electricity may cause the fuel vapors to
ignite.
●Always hold the grips on the fuel tank cap and turn it slowly to remove it. 
A whooshing sound may be heard when the fuel tank cap is loosened. Wait until
the sound cannot be heard before fully re moving the cap. In hot weather, pressur-
ized fuel may spray out the filler neck and cause injury.
●Do not allow anyone that has not discharged static electricity from their bodies to
come close to an open fuel tank.
●Do not inhale vaporized fuel.
Fuel contains substances that are harmful if inhaled.
●Do not smoke while refueling the vehicle. 
Doing so may cause the fuel to ignite and cause a fire.
●Do not return to the vehicle or touch an y person or object that is statically
charged. 
This may cause static electricity to build up , resulting in a possible ignition hazard.
■When replacing the fuel tank cap
Do not use anything but a genuine Lexus fuel tank cap designed for your vehicle.
Failure to do so may cause a fire or other incident which may result in death or seri-
ous injury.
NOTICE
■Refueling
Do not spill fuel during refueling. 
Failing to do so may damage the vehicle, such as causing the exhaust systems to
operate abnormally or damaging fuel system components or the vehicle's painted
surface.

Cargo and luggage
Capacity and distribution
Cargo capacity depends on the total weight of the occupants.
(Cargo capacity) = (Total load capa city) — (T
otal weight of occupants)
Steps for Determining Correct Load Limit—
(1) Locate the statement “The combined weight of occupants and car
go should never exceed XXX kg or XXX lbs.” on your vehicle’s
placard.
(2) Determine the combined weight of the driv
er and passengers that
will be riding in your vehicle.
(3) Subtract the combined weight of the driv
er and passengers from
XXX kg or XXX lbs.
(4) The resulting figure equals the av ailable amount of car
go and lug-
gage load capacity.
For example, if the “XXX” amount equals 1400 lbs. and ther
e will be
five 150 lb passengers in your vehicl e, the amount of available cargo
and luggage load capacity is 650 lbs. (1400 - 750 (5 150) = 650
lbs.)
(5) Determine the combined weight of luggage and car
go being
loaded on the vehicle.
That weight may not safely exceed the available cargo and luggage
load capacity calculated in Step 4.
Take notice of the following informat ion about storage precautions, cargo
capacity and load.
● Stow cargo and luggage in the trunk whenever possible. Be sure
all items are secured in place.
● Be car
eful to keep the vehicle level. Placing the weight as far for -
ward as possible helps maintain vehicle balance.
● F
or better fuel economy, do not carry unnecessary weight.

Emission inspection and maintenance (I/M) programs
Some states have vehicle emission inspection programs which include
OBD (On Board Diagnostics) checks. The OBD system monitors the oper
-
ation of the emission control system.
■ If the malfunction indicator lamp comes on
The OBD system determines that a pr
oblem exists somewhere in
the emission control system. Your vehicle may not pass the I/M test
and may need to be repaired. Contact your Lexus dealer to service
the vehicle.
■ Y
our vehicle may not pass the I/M test:
●When the batter
y is disconnected or discharged
Readiness codes that are set during ordinary driving are erased. 
Also, depending on your driving habits, the r
eadiness codes may
not be completely set.
● When the fuel tank cap is loose
The malfunction indicator lamp comes on as a tempor
ary mal-
function and your vehicle may not pass the I/M test.
■ When the malfunction indicator la mp goes off after se
veral driv-
ing trips
The error code in the OBD system will not be clear
ed unless the
vehicle is driven 40 or more times.
■ If y
our vehicle does not pass the I/M test
Contact your Lexus dealer to prep ar
e the vehicle for re-testing.

■Effects of incorrect tire inflation pressure
Driving with incorrect tire inflation pressure may result in the following:
●Reduced fuel efficiency
●Reduced driving comfort and tire life
●Reduced safety
●Damage to the drive train
If a tire needs frequent refilling, have it checked by your Lexus dealer.
■Instructions for checking tire inflation pressure
When checking tire inflation pressure, observe the following:
●Check only when the tires are cold. 
If your vehicle has been parked for at least 3 hours and has not been driven for
more than 1 mile or 1.5 km, you will get an accurate cold tire inflation pressure
reading.
●Always use a tire pressure gauge. 
The appearance of the tire can be misleading. In addition, tire inflation pressures
that are even just a few pounds off can degrade ride and handling.
●Do not bleed or reduce tire inflation pressure after driving. It is normal for the
tire inflation pressure to be higher after driving.
●Never exceed the vehicle capacity weight. 
Passengers and luggage weight should be placed so that the vehicle is bal-
anced.

5-2. Steps to take in an emergency
■If the malfunction indicator lamp comes on while driving
First check the following:
●Is your vehicle low on gas?
If it is, refuel the vehicle immediately.
●Is the fuel tank cap loose? 
If it is, tighten it securely.
The light will go off after taking several driving trips. 
If the light does not go off even after several trips, contact your Lexus dealer as soon
a
s possible.
■SRS warning light
This warning light system monitors the following:
●The airbag sensor assembly
●Front airbag sensors
●The curtain shield airbag sensors
●The side and curtain shield airbag sensor assemblies
●The driver’s seat position sensor
●Driver’s seat belt buckle switch
●The front passenger occupant classification ECU
●The pressure sensor
●The belt tension sensor
●AIRBAG ON and AIRBAG OFF indicator lights
●Front passenger’s seat belt buckle switch
●The inflators
●The warning light
●The interconnecting wiring and power sources
■Front passenger detection sensor and passenger seat belt reminder
If luggage is placed on the front passenger seat, the front passenger detection sen -
sor may cause the warning light to flash, even if a passenger is not sitting in the seat.
