Hybrid vehicle immobilizer system
■System maintenance
The vehicle has a maintenance-free type of hybrid vehicle immobilizer system.
■Conditions that may cause the system to malfunction
●If the grip portion of the key is in contact with a metallic object.
●If the key is in close proximity to or touching a key to the security system (key
with a built-in transponder chip) of another vehicle.
■Certifications for the hybrid vehicle immobilizer system For vehicles sold in the U.S.A.
This device complies with Part 15 of the FCC Rules. Operation is subject to the fol-
lowing two conditions: (1) this device may not cause harmful interference, and (2)
this device must accept any interference received, including interference that may
cause undesired operation.
For vehicles sold in Canada
Operation is subject to the following two conditions: (1) this device may not cause
interference, and (2) this device must a ccept any interference, including interfer-
ence that may cause undesired operation of the device.
The vehicle's keys have built-in tran sponder chips that prevent the hybrid
system from starting if the key has not been previously registered in the
vehicle's on-board computer.
Never leave the keys inside the vehicle when you leave the vehicle.

■For proper system operation
Do not modify, remove or disable the hybrid vehicle immobilizer system. If any
unauthorized changes or modifications are made, the proper operation of the sys-
tem cannot be guaranteed.

2-1. Driving procedures
■If the hybrid system does not start
The hybrid vehicle immobilizer system may not have been deactivated. (P. 5 9 )
■When the power switch indicator flashes in amber
The system may be malfunctioning. Have the vehicle inspected by your Lexus
dealer immediately.
■If the “READY” light does not come on
If the “READY” light does not come on when you press the power switch with the
shift lever in “P” and the brake pedal pressed, contact your Lexus dealer immedi-
ately.
■Auto power OFF function
If the vehicle is left in the “ACC” mode for more than an hour with the shift lever in
“P”, the power switch will automatically turn “OFF”.
■When the ambient temperature is low
Such as during winter driving conditions, it may take time until the “READY” light
comes on.
■Sounds and vibrations specific to a hybrid vehicle

Several hours after the hybrid system is turned off, you may hear a sound coming
from underneath the luggage compartment for several minutes. This is normal
operation and does not indicate a malfunction.

5-2. Steps to take in an emergency
If the hybrid system will not start
If the hybrid system will not start even though correct starting procedures
are being followed (
P. 103), consider each of the following points.
■The hybrid system will not start ev en if you are carrying the cor-
rect electronic key
One of the following may be the cause of the problem.
● The electronic key battery may be discharged. ( P. 17)
● There may not be sufficient fuel in the vehicle’s tank.
Add fuel to the vehicle.
● There may be a malfunction in the steering lock system.
● There may be a malfunction in the hybrid vehicle immobilizer sys-
tem.

■ The interior lights and headlights are dim, or the horn does not
sound or sounds at a low volume
One of the following may be the cause of the problem.
● The 12 volt battery may be discharged. ( P. 4 76 )
● The 12 volt battery terminal connections may be loose or cor-
roded.
■ The interior lights and headlights do not turn on, or the horn does
not sound
One of the following may be the cause of the problem.
●One or both of the 12 volt battery terminals may be discon-
nected.
● The 12 volt battery may be discharged. ( P. 4 76 )
Contact your Lexus dealer if the problem cannot be repaired, or if
repair procedures are unknown.
