â– Operation signals
A buzzer sounds and the emergency flashers flash to indicate that the doors have
been locked/unlocked. (Locked: once; Unlocked: twice)
â– When the door cannot be locked by the lock sensor on the upper part of the door
handle
â– Alarms and warning indicators
A combination of exterior and interior alarms as well as warning messages shown
on the multi-information display is used to prevent theft of the vehicle and accidents
resulting from erroneous operation.
â—ŹWhen a warning message is shown on the multi-information display
Take appropriate measures in response to the warning message on the multi-
information display. (→P. 7 1 5 ) Touch both lock sensors on the upper and
lower part of the door handle simultaneously.

â– Note for locking the doors
â—ŹTouching the door lock sensor while wearing gloves may delay or prevent lock
operation. Remove the gloves and touch the lock sensor again.
â—ŹWhen the lock operation is performed using the lock sensor, recognition signals
will be shown up to two consecutive times. After this, no recognition signals will
be given.
â—ŹIf the door handle becomes wet while the electronic key is within the effective
range, the door may lock and unlock repeatedly. Place the key in a position 6 ft.
(2 m) or more separate from the vehicle while the vehicle is being washed. (Take
care to ensure that the key is not stolen.)
â—ŹIf the electronic key is inside the vehicle and a door handle becomes wet during
a car wash, a message may be shown on the multi-information display and a
buzzer will sound outside the vehicle. To turn off the alarm, lock all the doors.
â—ŹThe lock sensor may not work properly if it comes into contact with ice, snow,
mud, etc. Clean the lock sensor and attempt to operate it again, or use the lock
sensor on the lower part of the door handle.
â—ŹFingernails may scrape against the door during operation of the door handle.
Be careful not to injure fingernails or damage the surface of the door.

GX460_OM_OM60J63U_(U)
Pre-collision seat belts (front seats of vehicles with pre-collision system)
If the pre-collision sensor detects that a collision is unavoidable, the pre-
collision system will retract the seat belt, thus enhancing the effectiveness
of the seat belt pretensioner in a crash.
The same will happen if the driver makes an emergency braking or loses con-
trol of the vehicle. ( →P. 3 4 7 )
â– Emergency locking retractor (ELR)
The retractor will lock the belt during a sudde n stop or on impact. It may also lock if
you lean forward too quickly. A slow, easy motion will allow the belt to extend so that
you can move around fully.
â– Automatic locking retractor (ALR)
When a passenger’s shoulder belt is completely extended and then retracted even
slightly, the belt is locked in that position and cannot be extended. This feature is
used to hold the child restraint system (CRS) firmly. To free the belt again, fully
retract the belt and then pull the belt out once more. ( →P. 1 5 5 )

CAUTION
â– When the children are in the vehicle
Do not allow children to play with the seat belt. If the seat belt becomes twisted
around a child’s neck, it may lead to choking or other serious injuries that could
result in death.
If this occurs and the buckle cannot be unfastened, scissors should be used to cut
the belt.
â– Seat belt pretensioners
●Do not place anything, such as a cushion, on the front passenger’s seat. Doing so
will disperse the passenger’s weight, which prevents the sensor form detecting
the passenger’s weight properly. As a result, the seat belt pretensioner for the
front passenger’s seat may not activate in the event of a collision.
â—ŹIf the pretensioner has activated, the SRS warning light will come on. In that case,
the seat belt cannot be used again and must be replaced at your Lexus dealer.
â– Adjustable shoulder anchor
Always make sure the shoulder belt is positioned across the center of your shoul-
der. The belt should be kept away from your neck, but not falling off your shoulder.
Failure to do so could reduce the amount of protection in an accident and cause
death or serious injuries in a collision. (→P. 9 0 )

â– Caution while driving
Do not adjust the position of the mirror while driving.
Doing so may lead to mishandling of the vehicle and may cause an accident, result-
ing in death or serious injury.

1-7. Safety information
1
Before driving
GX460_OM_OM60J63U_(U)Your vehicle is equipped with ADVANCED AIRBAGS designed based
on the US motor vehicle safety standards (FMVSS208). The airbag sen-
sor assembly (ECU) controls airbag
deployment based on information
obtained from the sensors etc. shown in the system components diagram
above. This information includes crash severity and occupant informa-
tion. As the airbags deploy, a chemical reaction in the inflators quickly fills
the airbags with non-toxic gas to help restrain the motion of the occu-
pants.
â– SRS warning light
This warning light system monitors the airbag sensor assembly, front airbag sensors,
side and curtain shield airbag sensors, rear side and curtain shield airbag sensors,
floor sensor, driver’s seat belt buckle switch, front passenger occupant classification
system (ECU and sensors), “AIR BAG ON” indicator light, “AIR BAG OFF” indica-
tor light, the “RSCA OFF” indicator light, front passenger’s seat belt buckle switch,
seat belt pretensioner assemblies, airbags, interconnecting wiring and power
sources. ( →P. 1 2 6 )

When driving
GX460_OM_OM60J63U_(U)
â– The meters and display illuminate when
The “ENGINE START STOP” switch is in IGNITION ON mode.
â– Instrument cluster brightness adjustment
The instrument cluster brightness levels when the tail lights are on and off can be
adjusted.
â– The brightness of the instrument cluster lights
When the tail lights are on, the brightness will change. However, when the sur-
roundings are bright (daytime, etc.) turning on the tail lights will not change the
instrument cluster brightness.
In addition, the brightness of the instrument cluster lights is automatically adjusted
based on the light sensor detecting how bright the surroundings are.
â– When disconnecting and reconnecting battery terminals
The trip meter data will be reset.
If the trip meter was displayed last, the ODO screen will be displayed after reset-
ting.
â– Customization
Setting of sensitivity of the ambient light sensor used for dimming the meter lights
can be changed. (Customizable features →P. 7 8 8 )
NOTICE
â– To prevent damage to the engine and its components
â—ŹDo not let the indicator needle of the tachometer enter the red zone, which indi-
cates the maximum engine speed.
â—ŹThe engine may be overheating if the engine coolant temperature gauge is in the
red zone (H). In this case, immediately stop the vehicle in a safe place, and check
the engine after it has cooled completely. ( →P. 74 9 )
