■When lowering the vehicle
In order to prevent the vehicle height from rising as occupants leave the vehicle,
lowering control will occur for a short while after the engine has been stopped.
■The rear height control air suspension failure warning
●If a malfunction occurs in the rear height control air suspension, N mode is auto-
matically selected. However, the system may not switch to N mode depending
on the location of the malfunction.
●The warning message is displayed on the multi-information display, and the rear
height control air suspension cannot be activated until the malfunction is cor-
rected.
Stop the engine and start it again. If th e warning message turns off, the system is
operating correctly. If the warning me ssage continues to be displayed, have
your vehicle inspected by your Le xus dealer as soon as possible.
CAUTION
■The rear height control air suspension must be turned off
Be sure to observe the following precau tions. Otherwise, the automatic leveling
function may cause vehicle height to change, and you may catch part of your body
in the vehicle, resulting in an accident:
●When jacking up the vehicle, installing tire chains or tying the vehicle with chains/
wires for transportation via flat bed truck, turn off the rear height control air sus-
pension and stop the engine.
●When the vehicle must be towed or disconnecting a trailer, put the vehicle height
in N mode and turn off the rear height control air suspension.
●When the vehicle is stuck, turn off th e rear height control air suspension.

AVS (Adaptive Variable Suspension System)
: If equipped
■Driving mode
●Mode is suitable for heavy load or driving on a unpaved road.
●With the four-wheel drive control switch at L4, the damping effect suitable for
off-road driving will be provided, regard less of the position of the AVS switch.
AVS controls the suspension according to the road and driving conditions.
Selecting an optimum driving mode allows good riding comfort and stabil-
ity.

■TRAC (Traction Control) for H4 mode
Helps to maintain drive power and prevent the drive wheels from spinning
when starting the vehicle or accelerating on slippery roads
■Active TRAC (Traction Control) for L4 mode*
Helps to maintain drive power and prevent the 4 wheels from spinning
when starting the vehicle or accelerating on slippery roads, or in off-road
conditions
■Hill-start assist control
Helps to prevent the vehicle from rolling backward when starting on an
incline or slippery slope
■KDSS (Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System)
KDSS helps to enhance ride comfort and handling response by using a
hydraulic control system to contro l the suspension stabilizer bars in
response to road surface and driving conditions during cornering or off-
road driving
■ PCS (Pre-Collision System) (if equipped)

ing assist systems, and may cause the system to malfunction.

When the system determines that ther e is a high possibility of a fron-
tal collision, the AVS optimizes the damping effect ( P. 325)
■ Driver monitor system (if equipped)
When the system determines that there is a possibility of a frontal
collision, and the driver is not f acing forward, PCS warnings are
given in advance to warn the driver . If the driver continues to be not
facing forward, and a high possibilit y of a frontal collision is detected,
PCS informs the driver of high po ssibility of a frontal collision by
performing slight braking to provid e a physically warning (pre-colli-
sion alert braking). ( P. 3 4 9 )

■The pre-collision system is operational when
●Pre-collision seat belts (situation 1):
• Vehicle speed is greater than about 4 mph (5 km/h).
• The speed at which your vehicle is approaching the obstacle or the vehiclerunning ahead of you is greater than about 19 mph (30 km/h).
• The front occupants are wearing a seat belt.
●Pre-collision seat belts (situation 2):
• Vehicle speed greater than about 19 mph (30 km/h).
• The system detects sudd en braking or skidding.
• The front occupants are wearing a seat belt.
●Pre-collision brake assist:
• Vehicle speed is greater than about 19 mph (30 km/h).
• The speed at which your vehicle is approaching the obstacle or the vehicle running ahead of you is greater than about 19 mph (30 km/h).
• The brake pedal is depressed.
●Pre-collision braking:
• The pre-collision braking off switch is not pressed.
• Vehicle speed is greater than about 10 mph (15 km/h).
• The speed at which your vehicle is approaching the obstacle or the vehicle
running ahead of you is greater than about 10 mph (15 km/h).
●AVS (Adaptive Variable Suspension System) control (if equipped):
• Vehicle speed is greater than about 4 mph (5 km/h).
• The speed at which your vehicle is approaching the obstacle or the vehiclerunning ahead of you is greater than about 19 mph (30 km/h).

CAUTION
■Off-road driving precautions
Always observe the following precautions to minimize the risk of death, serious
injury or damage to your vehicle:
●Drive carefully when off the road. Do not take unnecessary risks by driving in
dangerous places.
●Do not grip the steering wheel spokes wh en driving off-road. A bad bump could
jerk the wheel and injure your hands. Keep both hands and especially your
thumbs on the outside of the rim.
●Always check your brakes for effectiveness immediately after driving in sand,
mud, water or snow.
●After driving through tall grass, mud, rock, sand, rivers, etc., check that there is no
grass, bush, paper, rags, stone, sand, etc. adhering or trapped on the underbody.
Clear off any such matter from the underbody. If the vehicle is used with these
materials trapped or adhering to the underbody, a breakdown or fire could occur.
●When driving off-road or in rugged te rrain, do not drive at excessive speeds,
jump, make sharp turns, strike objects, etc. This may cause loss of control or vehi-
cle rollover causing death or serious injury. You are also risking expensive dam-
age to your vehicle’s suspension and chassis.

As shown in the example above, if the number of occupants increases,
the cargo and luggage load will be re
duced by an amount that equals the
increased weight due to the addition al occupants. In other words, if an
increase in the number of occupants ca uses an excess of the total load
capacity (combined weight of occupants plus cargo and luggage load),
you must reduce the cargo and luggage on your vehicle.

The following things may cause a fire if loaded in the luggage compartment:

Vehicle load limits include total load capacity, seating capacity, towing
capacity and cargo capacity.
■ Total load capacity:
Vehicles without rear height control air suspension
With third seats — 1315 lb. (595 kg)
Without third seats — 1525 lb. (690 kg)
Vehicles with rear height control air suspension 1280 lb. (580 kg)
Total load capacity means the comb ined weight of occupants, cargo
and luggage.
■ Seating capacity:
With third seats — 7 occupants (Front 2, Rear 5)
Without third seats — 5 occupants (Front 2, Rear 3)
Seating capacity means the maximu m number of occupants whose
estimated average weight is 150 lb. (68 kg) per person.
■ Towing capacity: 6500 lb. (2948 kg)
Towing capacity means the maximu m gross trailer weight (trailer
weight plus its cargo weight) that your vehicle is able to tow.
■ Cargo capacity
Cargo capacity may inc rease or decrease depending on the weight
and the number of occupants.
