When driving
GX460_OM_OM60J63U_(U)
Driving in vehicle-to-vehicle distance control modeThis mode employs a radar sensor to detect the presence of vehicles up
to approximately 400 ft. (120 m) ah ead, determines the current vehicle-
to-vehicle following distance, and oper ates to maintain a suitable follow-
ing distance from the vehicle ahead.
Note that vehicle-to-vehicle distance will close in when traveling on long
downhill slopes.

â– Dynamic radar cruise control can be set when
â—ŹThe shift lever is in the D or range 4 or higher of S has been selected.
â—ŹVehicle speed is above approximately 30 mph (50 km/h).
â– Accelerating after setting the vehicle speed
The vehicle can be accelerated normally. After acceleration, the set speed
resumes. However, during vehicle-to-vehicle distance control mode, the vehicle
speed may decrease below the set speed in order to maintain the distance to the
vehicle ahead.
â– Automatic cancelation of vehicle-to-vehicle distance control
Vehicle-to-vehicle distance control driving is automatically canceled in the follow-
ing situations:
â—ŹActual vehicle speed falls below approximately 25 mph (40 km/h).
â—ŹVSC is activated.
â—ŹThe sensor cannot operate correctly because it is covered in some way.
â—ŹThe windshield wipers are operating at high speed (when the wiper switch is set
to the “AUTO” mode or the high speed wiper operation position).
â—ŹWhen second start mode is set.
â—ŹBad weather causes the detection function to become extremely unstable.
â—ŹMulti-terrain mode is selected other than OFF.
â—ŹThe center differential lock/unlock is not completed within 5 seconds while the
dynamic radar cruise control system is on.
If vehicle-to-vehicle distance control driving is automatically canceled for any other
reason, there may be a malfunction in the system. Contact your Lexus dealer.

â– Automatic cancelation of constant speed control
The cruise control will stop maintaining the vehicle speed in the following situations:
â—ŹActual vehicle speed is more than approximately 10 mph (16 km/h) below the
set vehicle speed.
At this time, the memorized set speed is not retained.
â—ŹVehicle speed falls below approximately 25 mph (40 km/h).
â—ŹVSC is activated.
â—ŹThe center differential lock/unlock is not completed within 5 seconds while the
dynamic radar cruise control system is on.
â– Radar sensor and grille cover
Always keep the sensor and grille cover clean to ensure that the vehicle-to-vehicle
distance control operates properly. (Some ob structions, such as snow, ice or plastic
objects, cannot be detected by the obstruction sensor.)
Dynamic radar cruise control is canceled if an obstruction is detected.
â– Warning lights and messages for dynamic radar cruise control
Warning lights and messages are used to in dicate a system malfunction or to inform
the driver of the need for caution while driving. ( ď‚®P. 7 0 5 )

CAUTION
â– To avoid inadvertent cruise control activation
Switch the cruise control off using the “ON-OFF” button when not in use.
â– Situations unsuitable for the dynamic radar cruise control
Do not use dynamic radar cruise contro l in any of the following situations.
Doing so may result in inappropriate sp eed control and could cause an accident
resulting in death or serious injury.
â—ŹIn heavy traffic
â—ŹOn roads with sharp bends
â—ŹOn winding roads
â—ŹOn slippery roads, such as thos e covered with rain, ice or snow
â—ŹOn steep downhills, or where there are sudden changes between sharp up and
down gradients
Vehicle speed may exceed the set speed when driving down a steep hill.
â—ŹAt entrances to expressways
â—ŹWhen weather conditions are bad enough that they may prevent the sensors
from functioning correctly (fog, sn ow, sandstorm, heavy rain, etc.)
â—ŹWhen an approach warning buzzer is heard often
â—ŹWhen your vehicle is towing a trailer or during emergency towing
â—ŹIn traffic conditions where the vehicle is repeatedly sped up and slowed down at
frequent intervals

CAUTION
â– When the sensor may not be correctly detecting the vehicle ahead
Apply the brakes as necessary when any of the following types of vehicles are in
front of you.
As the sensor may not be able to correctly detect these types of vehicles, the
approach warning ( ď‚®P. 261) will not be activated, and a fatal or serious accident
may result.
â—ŹVehicles that cut in suddenly
â—ŹVehicles traveling at low speeds
â—ŹVehicles that are not moving
â—ŹVehicles with small rear ends (tra ilers with no load on board etc.)
â—ŹMotorcycles traveling in the same lane
â– Conditions under which the vehicle-to-vehicle distance control may not function
correctly
Apply the brakes as necessary in the foll owing conditions as the radar sensor may
not be able to correctly detect vehicles ahead, and a fatal or serious accident may
result:
â—ŹWhen water or snow thrown up by the surrounding vehicles hinders the function-
ing of the sensor
â—ŹWhen your vehicle is pointing upwards (caused by a heavy load in the luggage
compartment etc.)
â—ŹWhen the road curves or when the lanes are narrow
â—ŹWhen steering wheel operation or your position in the lane is unstable
â—ŹWhen the vehicle ahead of you decelerates suddenly

CAUTION
â– To ensure the sensor functions correctly
Do not do the following to the sensor or grille as doing so may cause the sensor not
to function correctly and could result in an accident:
â—ŹSticking or attaching anything to them
â—ŹLeaving them dirty
â—ŹDisassembling or subjecting them to strong shocks
â—ŹModifying or painting them
â—ŹReplacing them with non-genuine parts
â– Handling the radar sensor
Observe the following to ensure the cruise control system can function effectively.
Otherwise, the system may not function correctly and could result in an accident.
â—ŹKeep the sensor and grille cover clean at all times.
Clean the sensor and grille cover with a soft cloth so you do not mark or damage
them.
â—ŹDo not subject the sensor or surrounding area to a strong impact.
If the sensor moves even slightly off position, the system may malfunction. If the
sensor or surrounding area is subject to a strong impact, always have the area
inspected and adjusted by your Lexus dealer.
â—ŹDo not disassemble the sensor.
â—ŹDo not attach accessories or stickers to the sensor, grille cover or surrounding
area.
â—ŹDo not modify or paint the sensor and grille cover.
â—ŹDo not replace them with non-genuine parts.

Intuitive parking assist
: If equipped
The distance from your vehicle to nearby obstacles when parallel parking
or maneuvering into a garage is measured by the sensors and communi-
cated via the multi-information display and a buzzer. Always check the sur-
rounding area when using this system.
