CAUTION
■Things that must not be carried in the luggage compartment
The following things may cause a fire if loaded in the luggage compartment:
●Receptacles containing gasoline
●Aerosol cans
■Storage precautions
Observe the following precautions.
Failure to do so may prevent the pedals from being depressed properly, may block the
driver’s vision, or may result in items hitting the driver or passengers, possibly causing
an accident.
●Stow cargo and luggage in the luggage compartment whenever possible.
●Do not stack cargo and luggage in the luggage compartment higher than the seat-
backs.
●Do not place cargo or luggage in or on the following locations.
• At the feet of the driver
• On the front passenger or rear seats (when stacking items)
• On the luggage cover (if equipped)
• On the instrument panel
• On the dashboard
●Secure all items in the occupant compartment.
●When you fold down the rear seats, long items should not be placed directly behind
the front seats.
●Never allow anyone to ride in the luggage compartment. It is not designed for pas-
sengers. They should ride in their seats wi th their seat belts properly fastened. Other-
wise, they are much more likely to suffer death or serious bodily injury, in the event of
sudden braking, sudden swerving or an accident.

GX 460 _O M_ OM6 0F 6 8U _(U )4-5. Using the driving support systems
PCS (Pre-Collision system)∗
◆Pre-collision seat belts (front seat belts only)
If the system detects that a collision is unavoidable, the system will retract the
seat belt before the collision occurs.
The same will happen if the driver makes an emergency braking or loses con-
trol of the vehicle. (
→P. 3 1 )
However, when the VSC system is disabled, the system will not operate in the
event of skidding.
◆Pre-collision brake assist
When there is a high possibility of a frontal collision, the system applies
greater braking force in relation to how strongly the brake pedal is depressed.
◆Pre-collision braking
When there is a high possibility of a frontal collision, the system warns the
driver using a warning light, warning display and buzzer. If the system deter-
mines that a collision is unavoidable, the brakes are automatically applied to
reduce the collision speed. Pre-collision braking can be disabled using the
pre-collision braking off switch.
◆AVS (Adaptive Variable Suspension System) control (if equipped)
When the system determines that there is a high possibility of a frontal colli-
sion, the AVS optimizes the damping effect ( →P. 3 4 1 )
∗: If equipped
When the radar sensor detects possibility of a frontal collision, the pre-colli-
sion system such as the brakes and seat belts are automatically engaged to
lessen impact as well as vehicle damage.

Driving
■The pre-collision system is operational when
●Pre-collision seat belts (situation 1):
• Vehicle speed is greater than about 4 mph (5 km/h).
• The speed at which your vehicle is approaching the obstacle or the vehicle running
ahead of you is greater than about 19 mph (30 km/h).
• The front occupants are wearing a seat belt.
●Pre-collision seat belts (situation 2):
• Vehicle speed is greater than about 19 mph (30 km/h).
• The system detects sudden braking or skidding.
• The front occupants are wearing a seat belt.
●Pre-collision brake assist:
• Vehicle speed is greater than about 19 mph (30 km/h).
• The speed at which your vehicle is approaching the obstacle or the vehicle running ahead of you is greater than about 19 mph (30 km/h).
• The brake pedal is depressed.
●Pre-collision braking:
• The pre-collision braking off switch is not pressed.
• Vehicle speed is greater than about 10 mph (15 km/h).
• The speed at which your vehicle is approaching the obstacle or the vehicle running ahead of you is greater than about 10 mph (15 km/h).
●AVS (Adaptive Variable Suspension System) control (if equipped):
• Vehicle speed is greater than about 4 mph (5 km/h).
• The speed at which your vehicle is approaching the obstacle or the vehicle runningahead of you is greater than about 19 mph (30 km/h).
●Pre-collision alert braking (vehicles with driver monitor system):
• The system determines that the driver is not facing forward.
• The speed at which your vehicle is approaching the vehicle running ahead of you isgreater than about 25 mph (40 km/h).
• Vehicle speed is greater than about 25 mph (40 km/h).
• The pre-collision braking off switch is not pressed.
• The steering is not being turned.
■Situations in which the pre-collision system does not function properly
The system may not function effectively in situations such as the following:
●On roads with sharp bends or uneven surfaces
●If a vehicle suddenly moves in front of your vehicle, such as at an intersection
●If a vehicle suddenly cuts in front of your vehicle, such as when overtaking
●In inclement weather such as heavy rain, fog, snow or sand storms
●When your vehicle is skidding with the VSC system off
●When an extreme change in vehicle height occurs
●When the axis of the radar is out of adjustment

GX 460 _O M_ OM6 0F 6 8U _(U )4-5. Using the driving support systems
■Automatic cancelation of pre-collision system
When a malfunction occurs due to sensor contaminations, etc. that results in the sensors
being unable to detect obstacles, the pre-collis
ion system will be automatically disabled.
In this case, the system will not activat e even if there is a collision possibility.
■Obstacles not detected
The system cannot detect plastic obstacles such as pylons. There may also be occasions
when the system cannot detect pedestrians, animals, bicycles, motorcycles, trees, or
snowdrifts.
■Conditions that may trigger the system even if there is no possibility of a collision
In any of the following situations where the fr ontal area of the radar sensor is interrupted,
the radar sensor may detect possibility of a frontal collision and the system may be acti-
vated.
●When passing by an oncoming vehicle in a curve or a turn to the right or the left
●When rapidly approaching an obstacle ahead (e.g. preceding vehicle, toll gate barrier,
etc.)
●When there is a structural object (billboard , low ceiling, fluorescent light, etc.) above
the uphill road ahead
●When driving on a narrow road or through under a low overhead structure (bridge,
tunnel, fly-under, etc.)
●When driving on an uneven road surface
●When there is a metal object, bump, or protrusion on the road surface
●When vehicle’s front part is raised or lowered depending on loading conditions
●When the direction of radar sensor is misaligned by strong impact applied on an area
around the radar sensor, etc.
●When there is an obstacle (guard rail, etc.) by the roadside at the entrance to a curve
●When the front of your vehicle is pointing upwards (caused by towing a trailer, during
emergency towing or putting a heavy load in the luggage compartment etc.)
When the system is activated in the situations described above, there is also a possibility
that the seat belts will retract quickly and th e brakes may be applied with a force greater
than normal. When the seat belt is locked in the restricted position, stop the vehicle in a
safe place, release the seat belt and refasten it.
■When there is a malfunction in the system, or if the system is temporarily unusable
Warning lights will turn on or flash, an d warning messages will be displayed.

Driving
CAUTION
■Off-road vehicle precautions
Always observe the following precautions to minimize the risk of death, serious injury
or damage to your vehicle:
●In a rollover crash, an unbelted person is significantly more likely to die than a person
wearing a seat belt. Therefore, the driver and all passengers should always fasten
their seat belts.
●Avoid sharp turns or abrupt maneuvers, if at all possible.
Failure to operate this vehicle correctly may result in loss of control or vehicle rollover
causing death or serious injury.
●Loading cargo on the roof luggage carrier w ill make the center of the vehicle gravity
higher. Avoid high speeds, sudden starts, sharp turns, sudden braking or abrupt
maneuvers, otherwise it may result in loss of control or vehicle rollover due to failure
to operate this vehicle correctly.
●Always slow down in gusty crosswinds. Because of its profile and higher center of
gravity, your vehicle is more sensitive to side winds than an ordinary passenger car.
Slowing down will allow you to have better control.
●Do not drive horizontally across steep slopes. Driving straight up or straight down is
preferred. Your vehicle (or any similar off-road vehicle) can tip over sideways much
more easily than forward or backward.

GX 460 _O M_ OM6 0F 6 8U _(U )6-1. Maintenance and care
■Caring for leather areas
Lexus recommends cleaning the interior of the vehicle at least twice a year to maintain
the quality of the vehicle’s interior.
■Shampooing the carpets
There are several commercial foaming-type cleaners available. Use a sponge or brush to
apply the foam. Rub in overlapping circles. Do not use water. The excellent results are
obtained when keeping the carpet as dry as possible.
■Seat belts
Clean with mild soap and lukewarm water using a cloth or sponge. Also check the belts
periodically for excessive wear, fraying or cuts.
CAUTION
■Water in the vehicle
●Do not splash or spill liquid in the vehicle.
Doing so may cause electrical components etc. to malfunction or catch fire.
●Do not get any of the SRS components or wiring in the vehicle interior wet. (
→P. 3 8 )
An electrical malfunction may cause the airbags to deploy or not function properly,
resulting in death or serious injury.
■Cleaning the interior (especially instrument panel)
Do not use polish wax or polish cleaner. The instrument panel may reflect off the wind-
shield, obstructing the driver’s view and le ading to an accident, resulting in death or
serious injury.
NOTICE
■Cleaning detergents
●Do not use the following types of detergent, as they may discolor the vehicle interior
or cause streaks or damage to painted surfaces:
• Non-seat portions: Organic substances su ch as benzene or gasoline, alkaline or
acidic solutions, dye, and bleach
• Seats: Alkaline or acidic solutions, such as thinner, benzene, and alcohol
●Do not use polish wax or polish cleaner. The instrument panel’s or other interior part’s
painted surface may be damaged.
