When trouble arises
Ensure that the shift lever is in P and depress the brake pedal.
Touch the Lexus emblem side of the
electronic key to the engine switch.
When the electronic key is detected, a
buzzer sounds and the engine switch
will turn to IGNITION ON mode.
When the smart access system with
push-button start is deactivated in cus-
tomization setting, the engine switch will
turn to ACCESSORY mode.
Firmly depress the brake pedal and check that is shown on the multi-
information display.
Press the engine switch shortly and firmly.
In the event that the engine still cannot be started, contact your Lexus dealer.
■Stopping the engine
Shift the shift lever to P and press the engine switch as you normally do when stopping
the engine.
■Replacing the key battery
As the above procedure is a temporary measure, it is recommended that the electronic
key battery be replaced immediately when the battery is depleted. ( P. 484)
■Changing engine switch modes
Within 10 seconds of the buzzer sounding, release the brake pedal and press the engine
switch.
The engine does not start and modes will be changed each time the switch is pressed.

■When the electronic key does not work properly
●Make sure that the smart access system wi th push-button start has not been deacti-
vated in the customization setting. If it is off, turn the function on.

●Check if battery-saving mode is set. If it is set, cancel the function. (P. 123)

When trouble arises
The coolant level is satisfactory if it is between the “F” and “L” lines on the res-
ervoir. Reservoir

Radiator cap
Add coolant if necessary.
Water can be used in an emergency if
coolant is unavailable.
Start the engine and turn the air conditio ning system on to check that the radi-
ator cooling fans operate and to check for coolant leaks from the radiator or
hoses.
The fans operate when the air conditioning system is turned on immediately after a
cold start. Confirm that the fans are operating by checking the fan sound and air flow.
If it is difficult to check these, turn the air conditioning system on and off repeatedly.
(The fans may not operate in freezing temperatures.)
If the fans are not operating:
Stop the engine immediately an d contact your Lexus dealer.
If the fans are operating:
Have the vehicle inspected at the nearest Lexus dealer.

If the vehicle becomes stuck
Stop the engine. Set the parking brake and shift the shift lever to P.
Remove the mud, snow or sand from around the stuck tire.
Place wood, stones or some other mate rial under the tires to help provide
traction.
Restart the engine.
Lock the center differential. ( P. 341)
Shift the shift lever to the D or R positi on and release the parking brake. Then,
while exercising caution, depress the accelerator pedal.
■When it is difficult to free the vehicle
Turn off TRAC/Active TRAC/VSC/Trailer Sway Control if these functions are hamper-
ing your attempts to free the vehicle. ( P. 353)
Carry out the following procedures if the tires spin or the vehicle becomes
stuck in mud, dirt, or snow:
Press to turn off TRAC/Active TRAC/VSC/
Trailer Sway Control.

●It is locked automatically to prevent theft of the vehicle. ( P. 198)
●Is the window lock switch pressed?
The power window except for the one at the driver’s seat cannot be operated
if the window lock switch is pressed. ( P. 156)
●The auto power off function will be operated if the vehicle is left in ACCES-
SORY or IGNITION ON mode (the engine is not running) for a period of
time. ( P. 198)
●The seat belt reminder light is flashing
Are the driver and the front passe nger wearing the seat belts?

●The parking brake indicator is on
Is the parking brake released? ( P. 208)
Depending on the situation, other types of warning buzzer may also sound.

●Did anyone inside the vehicle open a door during setting the alarm?
The sensor detects it and the alarm sounds. ( P. 78)
To stop the alarm, turn the engine switch to IGNITION ON mode or start the
engine. The steering wheel cannot be turned after the engine is stopped
