Towing a trailerContact your Lexus dealer for furt her information about additional
requirements such as a towing kits, etc.
Hitch and tow hitch receiver
â– Hitch
Trailer hitch assemblies have differen t weight capacities established by
the hitch manufacturer. Even though the vehicle may be rated for tow-
ing a higher weight, the operator must never exceed the maximum
weight rating specified for the trailer hitch.
â– Trailer tongue load
The trailer cargo load should be d istributed so that the tongue load
is 9 to 11% for weight carrying hitch or 15% for we ight distributing
hitch of the total trailer weight, not exceeding the following.
Weight carrying hitch: 650 lb. (294 kg)
Weight distributing hitch: 975 lb. (442 kg)
(Tongue load/Total trailer weight x 100 = 9 to 11% or 15%)
The total trailer weight and tongue load can be measured with plat-
form scales found at a highway we ighing stations, building supply
companies, trucking companies, junk yards, etc.

When driving
CAUTION
â– To avoid accident or injury
â—ŹThe total trailer weight (trailer weight plus the weight of cargo) must not exceed
6500 lb. (2948 kg).
â—ŹIf a trailer and cargo weight over 2000 lb. (907 kg), use a sway control device
with sufficient capacity.
â—ŹThe gross combined weight (sum of your vehicle weight plus its load and the total
trailer weight) must not exceed 12000 lb. (5443 kg).
â—ŹDo not exceed the trailer hitch assembly weight, gross vehicle weight, gross axle
weight and trailer tongue load capacities.
â—ŹNever load more weight in the back than in the front of the trailer. About 60% of
the load should be in the front half of the trailer, and the remaining 40% in the
rear.
●Set the vehicle height to the “LO” mode and turn off the rear height control air
suspension to prevent the vehicle he ight from automatically changing.
â—ŹThe tow hitch receiver installed on your vehicle must never be used on another
vehicle
â– Hitches
â—ŹIf you wish to install a trailer hitch, contact your Lexus dealer.
â—ŹUse only a hitch that conforms to the total trailer weight requirement.
â—ŹFollow the directions supplied by the hitch manufacturer.
â—ŹLubricate the hitch ball with a light coat of grease.
â—ŹRemove the trailer hitch whenever you are not towing a trailer. After removing
the hitch, seal any mounting hole in the vehicle body to prevent entry of any sub-
stances into the vehicle.
â– When towing a trailer
â—ŹIf the total trailer weight exceeds 1000 lb . (453 kg), trailer brakes are required.
●Never tap into your vehicle’s hydraulic system, as this will lower the vehicle’s brak-
ing effectiveness.
â—ŹNever tow a trailer without using a safety chain securely attached to both the
trailer and the vehicle. If damage occurs to the coupling unit or hitch ball, there is
danger of the trailer wandering into another lane.

Overhead consoleThe overhead console is useful for
temporarily storing sunglasses and
similar small items.
CAUTION
â– Items that should not be left in the overhead console
Do not leave glasses or lighters in the console.
If the interior of the vehicle becomes hot, lighters may explode and glasses may
warp or become cracked.
â– Caution while driving
Do not leave the overhead console open. Items may fall out and cause injury.
â– Maximum storage weight
Do not store any object heavier than 0.44 lb. (200 g) in the overhead console, as
this may cause the console to open unexpectedly, leading to injury.

CAUTION
â– Burns
â—ŹUse caution when seating the following persons in a seat with the seat heater on
to avoid the possibility of burns:
• Babies, small children, the elderly, the sick and the disabled
• Persons with sensitive skin
• Persons who are fatigued
• Persons who have taken alcohol or drugs that induce sleep (sleeping drugs,
cold remedies, etc.)
â—ŹDo not cover the seat with anything when using the seat heater.
Using the seat heater with a blanket or cushion increases the temperature of the
seat and may lead to overheating.
NOTICE
â– To prevent seat heater damage
Do not put unevenly weighted objects on the seat and do not stick sharp objects
(needles, nails, etc.) into the seat.
â– To prevent battery discharge
Turn the dials off when the engine is not running.

Maintenance and care
â– Replacing tires and wheels
If the ID code of the tire pressure warning valve and transmitter is not registered,
the tire pressure warning system will not work properly. After driving for about 20
minutes, the tire pressure warning light comes on after blinking for 1 minute to indi-
cate a system malfunction.
â– Tire life
Any tire over 6 years old must be checked by a qualified technician even if they
have seldom or never been used or damage is not obvious.
â– If the treadwears down below 0.16 in. (4 mm) on snow tires
The effectiveness of snow tires is lost.
â– Maximum load of tire
Check that the maximum load of the replaced tire is greater than 1 /2 of the Gross
Axle Weight Ratings (GAWR) of either the front axle or the rear axle, whichever is
greater.
As for the maximum load of the tire, see the load limit at maximum cold tire inflation
pressure mentioned on the sidewall of the tire, and as for the Gross Axle Weight
Ratings (GAWR), see the Certification Label. (
ď‚®P. 3 4 3 , 4 2 4 ) .

Maintenance and care
â– Effects of incorrect tire inflation pressure
Driving with incorrect tire inflation pressure may result in the following:
â—ŹReduced fuel efficiency
â—ŹReduced driving comfort and tire life
â—ŹReduced safety
â—ŹDamage to the drive train
If a tire needs frequent refilling, have it checked by your Lexus dealer.
â– Instructions for checking tire inflation pressure
When checking tire inflation pressure, observe the following:
â—ŹCheck only when the tires are cold.
If your vehicle has been parked for at least 3 hours and has not been driven for
more than 1 mile or 1.5 km, you will get an accurate cold tire inflation pressure
reading.
â—ŹAlways use a tire pressure gauge.
The appearance of the tire can be misleadi ng. In addition, tire inflation pressures
that are even just a few pounds off can degrade ride and handling.
â—ŹDo not bleed or reduce tire inflation pressure after driving. It is normal for the
tire inflation pressure to be higher after driving.
â—ŹNever exceed the vehicle capacity weight.
Passengers and luggage weight should be placed so that the vehicle is bal-
anced.

Wheels
â– When replacing wheels
The wheels of your Lexus are equipped with tire pressure warning valves and trans-
mitters that allow the tire pressure warning system to provide advanced warning in
the event of a loss in tire inflation pressure. Whenever wheels are replaced, the tire
pressure warning valves and tran smitters must be installed. (ď‚®P. 3 3 7 )
If a wheel is bent, cracked or heavily corroded, it should be replaced.
Otherwise, the tire may separate from the wheel or cause loss of handling
control.
â– Wheel selection
When replacing wheels, care should be taken to ensure that they
are equivalent to those removed in load capacity, diameter, rim
width, and offset.
Replacement wheels are available at your Lexus dealer.
Lexus does not recommend using:
• Wheels of different sizes or types
• Used wheels
• Bent wheels that have been straightened
• Lexus wheels with after market chrome plating
â– Aluminum wheel precautions
â—ŹUse only Lexus wheel nuts and wrenches designed for use with
your aluminum wheels.
â—Ź When rotating, repairing or changi ng your tires, check that the
wheel nuts are still tight after driving 1000 miles (1600 km).
â—Ź Be careful not to damage the aluminum wheels when using tire
chains.
â—Ź Use only Lexus genuine balance weights or equivalent and a
plastic or rubber hammer when balancing your wheels.
