Before driving
CAUTION
■When installing a child restraint system
Follow the directions given in the child restraint system installation manual and fix
the child restraint system securely in place.
If the child restraint system is not correctl y fixed in place, the child or other passen-
gers may be injured or even killed in the event of sudden braking, sudden swerving
or an accident.
●When a booster seat is installed, always ensure that the shoulder belt is posi-
tioned across the center of the child's shoulder. The belt should be kept away
from the child's neck, but not so that it could fall off the child's shoulder. Failing to
do so may result in death or serious inju ry in the event of sudden braking, sudden
swerving or an accident.
●Make sure the outside rear seat head re straints are not in the folded position.
●Ensure that the belt and tab are securely locked and the seat belt is not twisted.
●Push and pull the child seat from side to side and forward to be sure it is secure.
●After securing a child restraint system, never adjust the seat.
●Follow all installation instructions provid ed by the child restraint system manufac-
turer.
●If the driver’s seat interferes with the child
restraint system and prevents it from being
attached correctly, attach the child restraint
system to the right-hand rear seat.
●Only put a forward facing or booster child
seat on the front seat when unavoidable.
When installing a forward facing or
booster child seat on the front passenger
seat, move the seat as far back as possible
even if the “AIR BAG OFF” indicator light is
illuminated. Failing to do so may result in
death or serious injury if the airbags deploy
(inflate).

■Indicators
The indicators inform the driver of th e operating state of the vehi-
cle’s various systems.
*1: These lights turn on when the “ENGINE START STOP” switch is turned to IGNITION ON mode to indicate that a system check is
being performed. They will turn off after the engine is started, or after a
few seconds. There may be a malfunction in a system if a light does not
come on, or if the lights do not turn off. Have the vehicle inspected by
your Lexus dealer.

Safety Connect LED light IndicatorsWhen the “ENGINE START STOP” swit ch is turned to IGNITION ON
mode, the red indicator light comes on for 2 seconds then turns off.
Afterward, the green indicator light comes on, indicating that the service
is active.
The following indicator light patterns indicate specific system usage con-
ditions:
● Green indicator light on = Active service
● Green indicator light flashing = Safety Connect call in process
● Red indicator light (except at vehicle start-up) = System malfunction
(contact your Lexus dealer)
● No indicator light (off) = Saf ety Connect service not active
Safety Connect services
■ Automatic Collision Notification
In case of either airbag deployment or severe rear-end collision, the
system is designed to automatically call the response center. The
responding agent receives the vehicl e’s location and attempts to speak
with the vehicle occupants to asse ss the level of emergency. If the
occupants are unable to communicate, the agent automatically treats
the call as an emergency, contacts the nearest emergency services
provider to describe the situation, and requests that assistance be sent
to the location.

Maintenance and care
■Caring for leather areas
Lexus recommends cleaning the interior of the vehicle at least twice a year to main-
tain the quality of the vehicle’s interior.
■Shampooing the carpets
There are several commercial foaming-type cleaners available. Use a sponge or
brush to apply the foam. Rub in overlapping circles. Do not apply water. Excellent
results are obtained by keeping the carpet as dry as possible.
■Seat belts
Clean with mild soap and lukewarm water using a cloth or sponge. Also check the
belts periodically for excessive wear, fraying or cuts.
CAUTION
■Water in the vehicle
●Do not splash or spill liquid in the vehicle.
Doing so may cause electrical components etc. to malfunction or catch fire.
●Do not get any of the SRS components or wiring in the vehicle interior wet.

Electrical malfunction may cause the airbags to deploy or not function properly,
resulting in death or severe injury.
■Cleaning the interior (especially instrument panel)
Do not use polish wax or polish cleaner. The instrument panel may reflect off the
windshield, obstructing the driver's view and leading to an accident, resulting in
death or serious injury.

Fuel pump shut off system
NOTICE
■Before starting the engine
Inspect the ground under the vehicle.
If you find that fuel has leaked on to the ground, the fuel system has been damaged
and is in need of repair. Do not restart the engine.
To minimize the risk of fuel leakage when the engine stalls or an airbag
inflates upon collision, the fuel pump shut off system stops supplying fuel to
the engine.
Follow the procedure below to rest art the engine after the system is
activated.
Turn the “ENGINE START STOP” switch to the ACCESSORY
mode or OFF.
Restart the engine.

INTELLIGENTS (ADVANCED AIRBAGS) conçus selon les normes de
sécurité américaines applicables aux véhicules à moteur (FMVSS208).
Le boîtier électronique (ECU) des sacs de sécurité gonflables régule le
déploiement de ces derniers sur la base des informations qu'il reçoit des
capteurs, etc., indiqués ci-dessus dans le schéma illustrant les
composants du système. Parmi ces informations figurent la gravité du
choc et l'occupation du véhicule par les passagers. Le déploiement
rapide des sacs de sécurité gonflables est obtenu au moyen d'une

ATTENTION
■Précautions avec les sacs de sécurité gonflables SRS
●Le sac de sécurité gonflable SRS passager avant se déploie également avec une
violence considérable, qui peut être très dangereuse voire mortelle si le passager
avant se trouve très près du sac de sécurité gonflable. Éloignez le siège passager
avant au maximum du sac de sécurité gonflable, et réglez le dossier de siège de
sorte à être assis bien droit dans le siège.
●Les nourrissons et les enfants qui ne sont pas correctement assis et/ou protégés
peuvent être grièvement blessés ou tués par le déploiement d'un sac de sécurité
gonflable. Installez dans un siège de sécurité enfant les enfants trop jeunes pour
pouvoir utiliser la ceinture de sécurité. Lexus recommande vivement d'installer
tous les nourrissons et jeunes enfants aux places arrière du véhicule et de prévoir
pour eux des systèmes de retenue adaptés. C'est à l'arrière que les nourrissons
et les jeunes enfants sont les mieux protégés.
●N'installez jamais un siège de sécurité enfant type dos à la route sur le siège
passager avant, même si le témoin “AIR BAG OFF” est allumé. En cas d'accident,
par la violence et la vitesse de son déploiement, le sac de sécurité gonflable
passager avant peut blesser grièvement, voire tuer l'enfant si vous l'avez installé à
la place du passager avant dans un siège de sécurité enfant type dos à la route.
●Si vous attachez une rallonge de ceinture
de sécurité aux boucles de ceinture de
sécurité avant, mais pas au pêne de la
ceinture de sécurité, les airbags SRS
frontaux détectent que le conducteur et le
passager avant ont attaché leur ceinture de
sécurité, alors même que ce n'est pas le
cas. Dans ce cas, il se peut que les airbags
SRS frontaux ne se déploient pas
correctement en cas d'accident, et vous
risquez d'être tué ou grièvement blessé.
Veillez à porter la ceinture de sécurité avec
la rallonge de ceinture de sécurité.
