Rain-sensing windshield wipers
When is selected, the wipers will operate automatically when
the sensor detects falling rain. Th e system automatically adjusts wiper
timing in according to rain volume and vehicle speed.
When is selected, the sensor sensitivity can be ad justed as fol-
lows by turning the switch ring:

The “ENGINE START STOP” switch is in IGNITION ON mode.
■Effects of vehicle speed on wiper operation
Vehicle speed affects the following even when the wipers are not in “AUTO” mode.
●Intermittent wiper interval
●Wiper operation when the washer is being used (delay until drip prevention
wiper sweep occurs)
Low speed wiper operation selected, wiper operation will be switched from low
speed to intermittent wiper operation only when the vehicle is stationary.
(However, the mode cannot be switched wh en the adjustment dial for the intermit-
tent wiper interval is se t to the lowest setting.)

■Raindrop sensor (vehicles with the rain-sensing windshield wipers)
●If the wiper switch is turned to “AUTO” position while the “ENGINE START
STOP” switch is in IGNITION ON mode , the wiper will operate once to show
that auto mode is activated.
●If the temperature of the raindrop sensor is 194 F (90 C) or higher, or -22 F
(-30 C) or lower, automatic operation may not occur. In this case, operate
the wipers in any mode other than “AUTO”.
■Outside rear view mirror defogger activa tion linked to windshield wiper opera-
tion
The outside rear view mirror defogger au tomatically turns on when you operate the
windshield wipers.
■If no windshield washer fluid sprays
Check that the washer nozzles are not blocked if there is washer fluid in the wind-
shield washer fluid reservoir.
■Customization that can be configured at Lexus dealer
Settings (e.g. drip prevention function) can be changed.

CAUTION
■Caution regarding the use of windshield wipers in “AUTO” mode
The windshield wipers may operate unexpectedly if the sensor is touched or the
windshield is subject to vibration in “AUT O” mode. Take care that your fingers or
anything else do not become caught in the windshield wipers.
●The sensor judges the amount of raindrops.

NOTICE
■When the windshield is dry
Do not use the wipers, as they may damage the windshield.
■When a nozzle becomes blocked
Do not try to clear it with a pin or other object. The nozzle will be damaged.
■When there is no washer fluid spray from the nozzle
Damage to the washer fluid pump may be caused if the lever is pulled toward you
and held continually.

Headlight cleaner switch
■The headlight cleaner can be operated when
When the “ENGINE START STOP” switch is in IGNITION ON mode and the
headlight switch is turned on.
■Windshield washer linked operation
Only for the first time when the windshie ld washer is operated after the “ENGINE
START STOP” switch is turned to IGNITION ON mode with the headlights on, the
headlight cleaners will also operate once. ( P. 1 7 8 )
NOTICE
■When the washer fluid tank is empty
Do not use this function when the washer fluid tank is empty. This may cause the
washer fluid pump to overheat.
Washer fluid can be sprayed on the headlights.
Press the switch to clean the
headlights.

When driving
■Automatic cancelation of constant speed control
The cruise control will stop maintaining the vehicle speed in the following situations:
●Actual vehicle speed is more than approximately 10 mph (16 km/h) below the
set vehicle speed.
At this time, the memorized set speed is not retained.
●Vehicle speed falls below approximately 25 mph (40 km/h).
●VSC is activated.
●When the shift lever is in the D position and any of the ranges 1 through 3 is
selected using the “-” paddle shift switch.
■Vehicle-to-vehicle distance settings
Select a distance from the table below. Note that the distances shown correspond
to a vehicle speed of 50 mph (80 km/h). Vehicle-to-vehicle distance increases/
decreases in accordance with vehicle speed.
■Radar sensor and grille cover
Always keep the sensor and grille cover clean to ensure that the vehicle-to-vehicle
distance control operates properly. (Some obstructions, such as snow, ice and plas-
tic objects, cannot be detected by the obstruction sensor.)
Dynamic radar cruise control is canc eled if an obstruction is detected.
■Warning lights, messages and buzzer s for dynamic radar cruise control
Warning lights, messages and buzzers are us ed to indicate a system malfunction or
to inform the driver of the need for caution while driving. ( P. 4 7 8 )

Hill-start assist control
■Hill-start assist control can be operated when
●The shift lever is in a position other than P (vehicles with automatic transmis-
sion).
●The parking brake is not applied.
●The accelerator pedal is not depressed.
■Hill-start assist control
●While hill-start assist control is operating, the brakes remain automatically
applied after the driver releases the br ake pedal. The stop lights and the high
mounted stoplight turn on.
●Hill-start assist control operates for about 2 seconds after the brake pedal is
released.
●If the slip indicator does not flash and the buzzer does not sound when the brake
pedal is further depressed, slightly redu ce the pressure on the brake pedal (do
not allow the vehicle to roll backward) and then firmly depress it again. If the sys-
tem still does not operate, check if th e operating conditions explained above
have been met.
Hill-start assist control helps to prevent the vehicle from rolling backwards
when starting on an incline or slippery slope.
To engage hill-start assist con-
trol, further depress the brake
pedal when the vehicle is
stopped completely.

●When your vehicle is skidding with the VSC system off
When the system is activated in the situations described above there is also a possi-
bility that the seat belts will retract quickly and the brakes will be applied with a force
greater than normal. When the seat belt is locked in the retracted position, stop the
vehicle in a safe place, release the seat belt and refasten.
■Automatic cancelation of the pre-collision system
When a malfunction occurs due to sensor contamination, etc. that results in the
sensors being unable to detect obstacles, the pre-collision system will be automati-
cally disabled. In this case, the system will not activate even if there is a collision risk.
■When there is a malfunction in the system
Warning lights and/or warning messages will turn on or flash. ( P. 4 6 9 , 4 7 8 )
