âEven when the electronic key is within the
effective range (detection areas), the sys-
tem may not operate properly in the fol-
lowing cases:
⢠The electronic key is too close to the win-
dow or outside door handle, near the
ground, or in a high place when the doors
are locked or unlocked.
⢠The electronic key is near the ground or
in a high place, or too close to the rear
bumper center when the trunk is opened.
⢠The electronic key is on the instrument panel, rear package tray or floor, or in the
door pockets or glove box when the
engine is started or engine switch modes
are changed.
âDo not leave the electronic key on top of
the instrument panel or near the door
pockets when exiting the vehicle.
Depending on the ra dio wave reception conditions, it may be detected by the
antenna outside the cabin and the doors
will become lockable from the outside,
possibly trapping the electronic key
inside the vehicle.
âAs long as the electronic key is within the
effective range, the doors may be locked
or unlocked by anyone. However, only
the doors detecting the electronic key
can be used to unlock the vehicle.
âEven if the electronic
key is not inside the
vehicle, it may be possible to start the
engine if the electronic key is near the
window.
âThe doors may unlock or lock if a large
amount of water splashes on the door
handle, such as in the rain or in a car
wash, when the electronic key is within
the effective range. (The doors will auto-
matically be locked after approximately
30 seconds if the doors are not opened
and closed.)
âIf the wireless remote control is used to
lock the doors when the electronic key is
near the vehicle, there is a possibility that
the door may not be unlocked by the
entry function. (Use the wireless remote
control to unlock the doors.)
âTouching the door lock or unlock sensor
while wearing gloves may prevent lock or
unlock operation.
âWhen the lock operation is performed
using the lock sensor, recognition signals
will be shown up to two consecutive
times. After this, no recognition signals
will be given.
âIf the door handle becomes wet while the
electronic key is within the effective
range, the door may lock and unlock
repeatedly. In this ca se, follow the follow-
ing correction procedures to wash the
vehicle:
⢠Place the electronic key in a location 6 ft. (2 m) or more away from the vehicle.
(Take care to ensure that the key is not
stolen.)
⢠Set the electronic key to battery-saving mode to disable the smart access system
with push-button start. ( ï®P.98)

system determines that the possibility of a
frontal collision with a detected object is
high.
The system may not operate in the following
situations:
⢠If a battery terminal has been discon- nected and reconnected and then the
vehicle has not been driven for a certain
amount of time
⢠If the shift lever is in R
⢠When the VSC OFF indicator is illumi- nated (only the pre-collision warning
function will be operational)

the multi-information display
A sensor may be covered with ice, snow,
dirt, etc. Remove the ice, snow, dirt, etc.,
from the sensor to return the system to nor-
mal.
Also, due to ice forming on a sensor at low
temperatures, a warning message may be
displayed or the sensor may not be able to detect an object. Once the ice melts, the
system will return to normal.
â If âParking Assist Unavailableâ is dis-
played on the multi-information display
âWater may be continuo
usly flowing over
the sensor surface, such as in a heavy
rain. When the system determines that it
is normal, the system will return to nor-

inspected by your Lexus dealer.
â If a battery terminal has been discon-
nected and reconnected
The system needs to be initialized. To initial-
ize the system, drive the vehicle straight
ahead for 5 seconds or more at a speed of
approximately 22 mph (35 km/h) or more.
â Sensor detection information
âThe sensor's detection areas are limited
to the areas around the vehicle front and
rear bumpers.
âThe following situations may occur
during use.
⢠Depending on the sh ape of the object
and other factors, the detection distance
may shorten, or detection may be impos-
sible.
⢠There will be a short delay between
object detection and di splay. Even at low
speeds, there is a possibility that the
object will come wi thin the sensorâs
detection areas befo re the display is
shown and the warning beep sounds.
⢠It might be difficult to hear the buzzer due
to the volume of the audio system or air
flow noise of the air conditioning system.
⢠It may be difficult to hear the buzzer if buzzers for other systems are sounding.
â Objects which the system may not be
properly detected
The shape of the object may prevent the
sensor from detecting it. Pay particular
attention to the following objects:
âWires, fences, ropes, etc.
WARNING
â When to disable the function
In the following situations, disable the
function as it may operate even though
there is no possibility of a collision.
âFailing to observe the warnings above.
âA non-genuine Toyota suspension
(lowered suspension, etc.) is installed.
â Notes when washing the vehicle
Do not apply intensive bursts of water or
steam to the sensor area.
Doing so may result in the sensor mal-
functioning.
âWhen using a high pressure washer to
wash the vehicle, do not spray the sen-
sors directly, as doing so may cause a
sensor to malfunction.
âWhen using steam to clean the vehicle,
do not direct steam too close to the
sensors as doing so may cause a sen-
sor to malfunction.

WARNING
â Driving with snow tires
Observe the following precautions to
reduce the risk of accidents.
Failure to do so may result in a loss of
vehicle control and cause death or seri-
ous injury.
âUse tires of the specified size.
âMaintain the recommended level of air
pressure.
âDo not drive in excess of 75 mph (120
km/h), regardless of the type of snow
tires being used.
âUse snow tires on all, not just some
wheels.
â Driving with tire chains (vehicles with
front and rear tires of the same size)
Observe the following precautions to
reduce the risk of accidents.
Failure to do so may result in the vehicle
being unable to be driven safely, and may
cause death or serious injury.
âDo not drive in excess of the speed
limit specified for the tire chains being
used, or 30 mph (50 km/h), which-
ever is lower.
âAvoid driving on bumpy road surfaces
or over potholes.
âAvoid sudden acceleration, abrupt
steering, sudden braking and shifting
operations that cause sudden engine
braking.
