Driving
WARNING
●Assisting the driver to measure follow- ing distance
The dynamic radar cruise control with
full-speed range is on ly intended to help
the driver in determ ining the following
distance between the driver’s own vehi-
cle and a designated vehicle traveling
ahead. It is not a mechanism that allows
careless or inattentive driving, and it is
not a system that can assist the driver in
low-visibility conditions. It is still neces-
sary for driver to pay close attention to
the vehicle’s surroundings.
●Assisting the driver to judge proper following distance
The dynamic radar cruise control with
full-speed range determines whether the
following distance between the driver’s
own vehicle and a designated vehicle
traveling ahead is within a set range. It is
not capable of making any other type of
judgement. Therefore, it is absolutely
necessary for the driver to remain vigi-
lant and to determine whether or not
there is a possibility of danger in any
given situation.
●Assisting the driver to operate the vehicle
The dynamic radar cruise control with
full-speed range has limited capability to
prevent or avoid a collision with a vehicle
traveling ahead. Therefore, if there is
ever any danger, the driver must take
immediate and direct control of the vehi-
cle and act appropriately in order to
ensure the safety of all involved.
■To avoid inadvertent dynamic radar cruise control with full-speed range
activation
Switch the dynamic radar cruise control
with full-speed range off using the cruise control main switch when not in use.
■Situations unsuitable for dynamic radar cruise control with full-speed
range
Do not use dynamic radar cruise control
with full-speed range in any of the follow- ing situations.
Doing so may result in inappropriate speed control and could cause an acci-dent resulting in death or serious injury.
●Roads where there are pedestrians,
cyclists, etc.
●In heavy traffic
●On roads with sharp bends
●On winding roads
●On slippery roads, such as those cov- ered with rain, ice or snow
●On steep downhills, or where there
are sudden changes between sharp up and down gradients Vehicle speed may exceed the set
speed when driving down a steep hill.
●At entrances to freeways and highways
●When weather conditions are bad enough that they may prevent the sen-sors from detecting correctly (fog,
snow, sandstorm, heavy rain, etc.)
●When there is rain, snow, etc. on the front surface of the radar sensor or camera sensor
●In traffic conditions that require fre-
quent repeated acceleration and deceleration
●During emergency towing

Driving
Resuming is available when the vehicle
speed is more than approximately 40
km/h (25 mph).
■Cruise control can be set when
●The shift position is in D.
●LC500: Range 4 or higher of D has been selected by using the paddle shift.
●Vehicle speed is above approximately 40 km/h (25 mph).
■Accelerating after setting the vehicle speed
●The vehicle can be accelerated normally. After acceleration, the set speed
resumes.
●Even without canceling the cruise con-
trol, the set speed can be increased by first accelerating the vehicle to the desired speed and then pressing the -
/SET switch to set the new speed.
■Automatic cruise control cancelation
Cruise control will stop maintaining the
vehicle speed in any of the following situa- tions.
●Actual vehicle speed falls more than approximately 16 km/h (10 mph) below the preset vehicle speed.
●Actual vehicle speed is below approxi-mately 40 km/h (25 mph).
●VSC is activated.
●TRC is activated for a period of time.
●When the VSC or TRC system is turned
off.
■If the warning message for the cruise control is shown on the multi-informa-tion display
Press the cruise control main switch once to deactivate the system, and then press the
switch again to reactivate the system. If the cruise control speed cannot be set or if the cruise control cancels immediately
after being activated, there may be a mal- function in the cruise control system. Have the vehicle inspected by authorized Lexus
retailer or Lexus authorized repairer, or any
reliable repairer.
WARNING
■To avoid operating the cruise control
by mistake
Switch the cruise control off using the
cruise control main switch when not in use.
■Situations unsuitable for cruise con-trol
Do not use cruise control in any of the following situations.
Doing so may result in loss of control and could cause an accident resulting in death or serious injury.
●In heavy traffic
●On roads with sharp bends
●On winding roads
●On slippery roads, such as those cov-
ered with rain, ice or snow
●On steep downhills Vehicle speed may exceed the set speed when driving down a steep hill.
●During emergency towing

If your vehicle needs to be
towed
If towing is necessary, we recom-
mend having your vehicle towed by
any authorized Lexus retailer or
Lexus authorized repairer, or any
reliable repairer or commercial
towing service, using a wheel-lift
type truck or flatbed truck.
Use a safety chain system for all
towing, and abide by all state/pro-
vincial and local laws.
WARNING
Observe the following precautions. Failure to do so may result in death or
serious injury.
■When towing the vehicle
LC500: Be sure to transport the vehicle with all four wheels raised off the ground. If the vehicle is towed with the tires con-
tacting the ground, the drivetrain and related parts may be damaged or an accident may occur due to a change in
direction of the vehicle.
LC500h: Be sure to transport the vehi- cle with all four wheels raised off the
ground. If the vehicle is towed with the tires contacting the ground, the drive-train and related parts may be damaged,
an accident may occur due to a change in direction of the vehicle or electricity generated by the operation of the motor
may cause a fire to occur depending on the nature of the damage or malfunction.
■While towing
●When towing using cables or chains, avoid sudden starts, etc. which place excessive stress on the towing eyelets,
cables or chains. The towing eyelets, cables or chains may become dam-aged, broken debris may hit people,
and cause serious damage.
●Do not turn the engine switch off.This may lead to an accident as the
rear wheels will be locked by the park- ing lock. Also, there is a possibility that the steering wheel is locked and can-
not be operated.
■Installing towing eyelets to the vehi- cle
Make sure that towing eyelets are installed securely.
If not securely installed, towing eyelets may come loose during towing.

When trouble arisesIn the following situations, it is not pos-
sible to be towed by another vehicle
using cables or chains, as the rear
wheels may be locked due to the park-
ing lock. Contact any authorized Lexus
retailer or Lexus authorized repairer,
or any reliable repairer or commercial
towing service.
 There is a malfunction in the shift
control system. ( P.166, 170, 381)
 There is a malfunction in the engine
immobilizer system system>. ( P.70)
 There is a malfunction in the smart
entry & start system. ( P.389)
 The 12-volt battery is discharged.
( P.392)
The following may indicate a problem
with your transmission. Contact any
authorized Lexus retailer or Lexus
authorized repairer, or any reliable
repairer or commercial towing service
before towing.
 LC500: The engine is running but
the vehicle does not move.
 LC500h: The hybrid system warn-
ing message is shown on the multi-
information display and the vehicle
does not move.
 The vehicle makes an abnormal
sound.
Do not tow with a sling-type truck to
prevent body damage.
NOTICE
■To prevent damage to the vehicle when towing using a wheel-lift type truck
●Do not tow the vehicle from the rear
when the engine switch is off. The steering lock mecha-nism is not strong enough to hold the
front wheels straight.
●When raising the vehicle, ensure ade- quate ground clearance for towing at the opposite end of the raised vehicle.
Without adequate clearance, the vehi- cle could be damaged while being towed.
■To prevent damage to the vehicle
when towing with a sling-type truck
Do not tow with a sling-type truck, either from the front or rear.
■To prevent damage to the vehicle during emergency towing
Do not secure cables or chains to the
suspension components.

Use a towing doll y under the rear
wheels.
From the rear
Use a towing doll y under the front
wheels.
If your vehicle is transported by a flat-
bed truck, it should be tied down at the
locations shown in the illustration.
If you use chains or cables to tie down
your vehicle, the angles shaded in
black must be 45°.
Do not overly tighten the tie downs or
the vehicle may be damaged.
If a tow truck is not available in an
emergency, your vehicle may be tem-
porarily towed using cables or chains
secured to the emergency towing eye-
lets. This should only be attempted on
hard surfaced roads for short distances
at under 30 km/h (18 mph).
A driver must be in the vehicle to steer
and operate the brakes. The vehicle’s
wheels, drive train, axles, steering and
brakes must be in good condition.

When trouble arises
To have your vehicle towed by another
vehicle, the towing eyelet must be
installed to your vehicle. Install the tow-
ing eyelet using the following proce-
dure.
1 Take out the towing eyelet.
( P.339)
2 Remove the eyelet cover using a
flathead screwdriver.
To protect the bodywork, place a rag between the screwdriver and the vehicle body as shown in the illustration.
3 Insert the towing eyelet into the
hole and tighten partially by hand.
4 Tighten down the towing eyelet
securely using a wheel nut wrench
or hard metal bar.
5 Securely attach cables or chains to
the towing eyelet.
Take care not to damage the vehicle body.
6 Enter the vehicle being towed and
start the engine .
If the engine does not start, turn the engine switch switch> to IGNITION ON mode .
7 Shift the shift position to N and
release the parking brake.
■While towing
If the engine is not running , the power assist for the brakes and
steering will not function, making steering and braking more difficult.

1Stop the engine .
Set the parking brake and shift the
shift position to P.
2 Remove the mud, snow or sand
from around the rear wheels.
3 Place wood, stones or some other
material under the rear wheels to
help provide traction.
4 Restart the engine .
5 Shift the shift position to D or R and
release the parking brake. Then,
while exercising caution, depress
the accelerator pedal.
■When it is difficult to free the vehicle
Press the switch to turn off TRC.
If the vehicle becomes stuck
Carry out the following proce-
dures if the tires spin or the vehicle
becomes stuck in mud, dirt or snow:

WARNING
■When attempting to free a stuck vehi- cle
If you choose to push the vehicle back and forth to free it, make sure the sur-
rounding area is clear to avoid striking other vehicles, objects or people. The vehicle may also lunge forward or lunge
back suddenly as it becomes free. Use extreme caution.
■When shifting the shift position
Be careful not to shift the shift position with the accelerator pedal depressed.
This may lead to unexpected rapid accel- eration of the vehicle that may cause an accident resulting in death or serious
injury.
NOTICE
■To avoid damaging the transmission and other components
●Avoid spinning the rear wheels and depressing the accelerator pedal
more than necessary.
●If the vehicle remains stuck even after these procedures are performed, the vehicle may require towing to be freed.
