CAUTION
■Limitations of the pre-crash safety system
The driver is solely responsible for safe driving. Always drive safely, taking care to
observe your surroundings.
Do not use the pre-crash safety system instead of normal braking operations under
any circumstances. This system will not prevent collisions or lessen damage or inju-
ries in all cases. Do not overly rely on this system. Failure to do so may cause an
accident, resulting in death or serious injury.
This system has been designed to help avoid and reduce the impact of collisions.
However, the system operates differently depending on the situation ( P. 372,
374). As a result, the same level of performance may not be expected in all cases.
Also, the pre-crash safety brakes may not operate if the driver is depressing the
brake pedal or turning the steering wheel, as the system will determine such condi-
tions as collision avoidance operations.
■Handling the radar sensor
Observe the following to ensure the pre-crash safety system can function effec-
tively. Otherwise, the system may not function correctly and could result in an acci-
dent.
●Keep the sensor and grille cover clean at all times.
Clean the sensor and grille cover with a soft cloth so you do not mark or damage
them.
●Do not subject the sensor or surrounding area to a strong impact.
If the sensor moves even slightly off position, the system may malfunction. If the
sensor or surrounding area is subject to a strong impact, always have the area
inspected and adjusted by your Lexus dealer.
●Do not disassemble the sensor.
●Do not attach accessories or stickers to the sensor, grille cover or surrounding
area.
●Do not modify or paint the sensor and grille cover.
●If the radar sensor needs to be replaced, contact your Lexus dealer.

CAUTION
■Cautions regarding the assist contents of the system
By means of alarms and brake control, the pre-crash safety system is intended to
assist the driver in avoiding collisions through the process of LOOK-JUDGE-ACT.
There are limits to the degree of assistance the system can provide, so please keep
in mind the following important points.
●Assisting the driver in watching the road
The pre-crash safety system is only able to detect obstacles directly in front of the
vehicle, and only within a limited range. It is not a mechanism that allows careless
or inattentive driving, and it is not a system that can assist the driver in low-visibil-
ity conditions. It is still necessary for the driver to pay close attention to the vehi-
cle’s surroundings.
●Assisting the driver in making correct judgment
When attempting to estimate the likelihood of a collision, the only data available
to the pre-crash safety system is that from obstacles it has detected directly in
front of the vehicle. Therefore, it is absolutely necessary for the driver to remain
vigilant and to determine whether or not there is a possibility of collision in any
given situation.
●Assisting the driver in taking action
The pre-crash safety system’s braking assist feature is designed to help reduce
the severity of a collision, and so only acts when the system has judged that a col-
lision is unavoidable. This system is not capable of automatically avoiding a colli-
sion or bringing the vehi cle to a stop safely without appropriate operations
performed by the driver. For this reason, when encountering a dangerous situa-
tion the driver must take direct and immediate action in order to ensure the safety
of all involved.
NOTICE
■Precautions for cleaning the driver monitor sensor (vehicles with driver monitor
system)
●Gently wipe the sensor with a soft cloth to prevent damage.
●Wipe any excess dirt with a cloth dampened with neutral detergent, all liquids
having been wringed out of the cloth. After that, wipe again with a dry cloth.
●Do not use benzene, thinner, glass cleaners, wax, etc.

Perform the following according to the driving conditions:
●Do not try to forcibly open a window or move a wiper that is frozen.
Pour warm water over the frozen area to melt the ice. Wipe away the
water immediately to prevent it from freezing.
●To ensure proper operation of the climate control system fan, remove
any snow that has accumulated on the air inlet vents in front of the wind-
shield.
●Check for and remove any excess ice or snow that may have accumu-
lated on the exterior lights, vehicle’s roof, chassis, around the tires or on
the brakes.
●Remove any snow or mud from the bottom of your shoes before getting
in the vehicle.
Accelerate the vehicle slowly, keep a safe distance between you and the
vehicle ahead, and drive at a reduced speed suitable to road conditions.
●Park the vehicle and move the shift lever to P without setting the park-
ing brake. The parking brake may free ze up, preventing it from being
released. If the vehicle is parked without setting the parking brake,
make sure to block the wheels.
Failure to do so may be dangerous because it may cause the vehicle to
move unexpectedly, possibly leading to an accident.
●If the vehicle is parked without setting the parking brake, confirm that
the shift lever cannot be moved out of P*.
*: The shift lever will be locked if it is attempted to be shifted from P to any other
position without depressing the brake pedal. If the shift lever can be shifted
from P, there may be a problem with the shift lock system. Have the vehicle
inspected by your Lexus dealer immediately.

Driving
LS460/LS460L_GE (OM50G06E)
◆Using Eco drive mode
When using Eco drive mode, the torque corresponding to the accelerator
pedal depression amount can be generate d more smoothly than it is in normal
conditions. In addition, the operation of the air conditioning system (heating/
cooling) will be minimized, improving the fuel economy. ( P. 354)
◆Use of Eco Driving Indicator
The Eco-friendly driving is possible by keeping the bar display of the Eco Driv-
ing Indicator shown in the multi-information display within the Zone of Eco
driving. ( P. 132)
◆Accelerator pedal/brake pedal operation
Drive your vehicle smoothly. Avoid abrupt acceleration and deceleration.
Gradual acceleration and deceleration will help reduce excessive fuel con-
sumption.
◆When braking
Observe conditions in front of and ar ound the vehicle, and estimate your
stopping position. Release the accelerator pedal early and continue coasting.
Use the brake pedal to adjust your stopping position. Make sure to operate
the brake pedal gently.
◆Delays
Repeated acceleration and deceleration, as well as long waits at traffic lights,
will lead to bad fuel economy. Check traffic reports before leaving and avoid
delays as much as possible.
◆Highway driving
Control and maintain the vehicle at a constant speed. Before stopping at a toll
booth or similar, allow plenty of time to release the accelerator pedal and gen-
tly apply the brakes.
Eco-friendly driving tips
For improved fuel economy and reduced CO2 emissions, pay attention to the
following points:

NOTICE
■To prevent paint deterioration and corrosion on the body and components (alu-
minum wheels etc.)
●Wash the vehicle immediately in the following cases:
• After driving near the sea coast
• After driving on salted roads
• If coal tar or tree sap is present on the paint surface
• If dead insects, insect droppings or bird droppings are present on the paint
surface
• After driving in an area contaminated with soot, oily smoke, mine dust, iron
powder or chemical substances
• If the vehicle becomes heavily soiled with dust or mud
• If liquids such as benzene and gasoline are spilled on the paint surface
●If the paint is chipped or scratched, have it repaired immediately.
●To prevent the wheels from corroding, remove any dirt and store in a place with
low humidity when storing the wheels.
■Cleaning the exterior lights
●Wash carefully. Do not use organic substances or scrub with a hard brush.
This may damage the surfaces of the lights.
●Do not apply wax to the surfaces of the lights.
Wax may cause damage to the lenses.
■When using an automatic car wash
Set the wiper switch to the off position.
If the wiper switch is in “AUTO”, the wipers may operate and the wiper blades may
be damaged.
■When using a high pressure car wash
●When washing the vehicle, do not spray the camera or its surrounding area
directly with a high pressure washer. Shock applied from high pressure water may
cause the device to not operate normally.
●Do not bring the nozzle tip close to boot s (rubber or resin manufactured cover),
connectors or the following parts. The parts may be damaged if they come into
contact with high-pressure water.
• Traction related parts
• Steering parts
• Suspension parts
• Brake parts

Maintenance and care
LS460/LS460L_GE (OM50G06E)
6-2. Maintenance
●Scheduled maintenance should be performed at specified intervals
according to the maintenance schedule.
The interval for scheduled maintenance is determined by the odometer reading
or the time interval, whichever comes first, shown in the schedule.
Maintenance beyond the last period should be performed at the same intervals.
●Where to go for maintenance service?
It makes good sense to take your vehicle to your local Lexus dealer for mainte-
nance service as well as other inspections and repairs.
Lexus technicians are well-trained specialists receiving the latest service informa-
tion through technical bulletins, service tips and in-dealership training programs.
They learn to work on Lexus before they work on your vehicle, rather than while
they are working on it. Doesn’t that seem like the best way?
Your Lexus dealer has invested a lot of money in special Lexus tools and service
equipment. It helps them to do the job better and at less cost.
Your Lexus dealer’s service department will perform all of the scheduled mainte-
nance on your vehicle reliably and economically.
Rubber hoses (for cooling and heater system, brake system and fuel system)
should be inspected by a qualified technician according to the Lexus mainte-
nance schedule.
Rubber hoses are particularly important maintenance items. Have any deterio-
rated or damaged hoses replaced immediately. Note that rubber hoses will dete-
riorate with age, resulting in swelling, chafing or cracking.
Maintenance requirements
To ensure safe and economical driving, day-to-day care and regular
maintenance are essential. Lexus recommends the following mainte-
nance:
Scheduled maintenance

What about do-it-yourself maintenance?
Many of the maintenance items are easy to do yourself if you have a little mechan-
ical ability and a few basic automotive tools. Simple instructions for how to per-
form them are presented in this section.
Note, however, that some maintenance tasks require special tools and skills.
These are best performed by qualified technicians. Even if you are an experi-
enced do-it-yourself mechanic, we recommend that repairs and maintenance be
conducted by your Lexus dealer who will keep a record of maintenance on your
vehicle. This record could be helpful should you ever require Warranty Service.
■Does your vehicle need repairs?
Be on the alert for changes in performance and sounds, and visual tip-offs that indi-
cate service is needed. Some important clues are:
●Engine missing, stumbling or pinging
●Appreciable loss of power
●Strange engine noises
●A fluid leak under the vehicle (However, water dripping from the air conditioning
system after use is normal.)
●Change in exhaust sound (This may indicate a dangerous carbon monoxide leak.
Drive with the windows open and have the exhaust system checked immediately.)
●Flat-looking tires, excessive tire squeal when cornering, uneven tire wear
●Vehicle pulls to one side when driven straight on a level road
●Strange noises related to suspension movement
●Loss of brake effectiveness, spongy feeling brake pedal, pedal almost touches the
floor, vehicle pulls to one side when braking
●Engine coolant temperature continually higher than normal ( P. 125)
If you notice any of these clues, take your vehicle to your Lexus dealer as soon as
possible. Your vehicle may need adjustment or repair.
