Press the switch to flash all of the turn
signal lights. To turn them off, press the switch once
again.
■
Emergency flashers●
If the emergency flashers are used for a
long time while the hybrid system is not
operating (while th e “READY” indicator
is not illuminated), the 12-volt battery may
discharge.●
If any of the SRS airbags deploy (inflate)
or in the event of a strong rear impact, the
emergency flashers will turn on automati-
cally.
The emergency flashers will turn off auto-
matically after operating for approxi-
mately 20 minutes. To manually turn the
emergency flashers off, press the switch
twice.
(The emergency flashers may not turn on
automatically depending on the force of
the impact and conditions of the colli-
sion.) 1 Steadily step on the brake pedal
with both feet and firmly depress it. Do not pump the brake pedal repeatedly
as this will increase the effort required to
slow the vehicle.
2 Shift the shift position to N. 
If the shift position is shifted to N
3 After slowing down, stop the vehi-
cle in a safe place by the road.
4 Stop the hybrid system. 
If the shift position cannot be shifted
to N
3 Keep depressing the brake pedal
with both feet to reduce vehicle
speed as much as possible.

When trouble arises
In the following situations, it is not pos-
sible to be towed by another vehicle
using cables or chains, as the rear
wheels may be locked due to the park-
ing lock. Contact your Lexus dealer or
commercial towing service.
 There is a malfunction in the shift control system. ( → P.171, 437)
 There is a malfunction in the immo-
bilizer system. ( → P.66)
 There is a malfunction in the smart
access system with push-button
start. ( → P.445)
 The 12-volt battery is discharged.
( → P.447)
The following may indicate a problem
with your transmission. Contact your
Lexus dealer or commercial towing
service before towing.
 The hybrid system warning message
is shown on the multi-information
display and the vehicle does not
move.
 The vehicle makes an abnormal
sound.
Do not tow with a sling-type truck to
prevent body damage.WARNING■
Installing towing eyelets to the vehi-
cle
Make sure that towing eyelets are
installed securely.
If not securely installed, towing eyelets
may come loose during towing.
NOTICE■
To prevent damage to the vehicle
when towing using a wheel-lift type
truck●
Do not tow the vehicle from the rear
when the power switch is off. The
steering lock mechanism is not strong
enough to hold the front wheels
straight.●
When raising the vehicle, ensure ade-
quate ground clearance for towing at
the opposite end of the raised vehicle.
Without adequate clearance, the vehi-
cle could be damaged while being
towed.■
To prevent damage to the vehicle
when towing with a sling-type truck
Do not tow with a sling-type truck, either
from the front or rear.

To prevent damage to the vehicle
during emergency towing
Do not secure cables or chains to the
suspension components.

When trouble arises If it is, tighten it securely.
The light will go off after several driving
trips.
If the light does not go off even after several
trips, contact your Lexus dealer as soon as
possible. ■
Electric power steering system warning
light (warning buzzer)
When the 12-volt battery charge becomes
insufficient or the voltage temporarily
drops, the electric po wer steering system
warning light may come on and the warning
buzzer may sound. ■
When the tire pressure warning light
comes on
Inspect the tires to check if a tire is punc-
tured.
If a tire is punctured: → P.442
If none of the tires are punctured:
Turn the power switch off then turn it to ON
mode. Check if the ti re pressure warning
light comes on or blinks. 
If the tire pressure wa rning light blinks for
approximately 1 minute then stays on
There may be a malfunction in the tire
pressure warning syst em. Have the vehicle
inspected by your Lexus dealer immedi-
ately. 
If the tire pressure warning light comes
on
1 After the temperature of the tires has
lowered sufficiently, check the inflation
pressure of each tire and adjust them to
the specified level.
2 If the warning light does not turn off
even after several minutes have
elapsed, check that the inflation pres-
sure of each tire is at the specified level
and perform initialization. ( → P.401)

The tire pressure warning light may
come on due to natural causes
The tire pressure wa rning light may come
on due to natural causes such as natural air
leaks and tire inflation pressure changes
caused by temperature. In this case, adjust-
ing the tire inflation pressure will turn off the
warning light (after a few minutes). ■
Conditions that the tire pressure warn-
ing system may not function properly
→ P.398
WARNING■
If both the ABS and the brake system
warning lights remain on
Stop your vehicle in a safe place immedi-
ately and contact your Lexus dealer.
The vehicle will become extremely
unstable during br aking, and the ABS
system may fail, which could cause an
accident resulting in death or serious
injury. ■
When the electric power steering
system warning light comes on
When the light comes on yellow, the
assist to the power st eering is restricted.
When the light comes on red, the assist
to the power steering is lost and handling
operations of the steering wheel become
extremely heavy.
When steering wheel operations are
heavier than usual, grip the steering
wheel firmly and operate it using more
force than usual. ■
If the tire pressure warning light
comes on
Be sure to observe the following precau-
tions.
Failure to do so could cause a loss of
vehicle control and result in death or
serious injury.
●
Decelerate to the lowest appropriate
speed as soon as possible. Do not
drive over 50 mph (80 km/h).
●
Check and adjust the tire inflation
pressure immediately.
●
If the tire pressure warning light comes
on even after tire inflation pressure
adjustment, it is prob able that you have
a flat tire. Have the flat tire replaced by
the nearest Lexus dealer.

When trouble arises  In some situations, the master warning light and warning buzzer may not oper-
ate as specified. In this case, follow the instructions displayed in the warning
message.
 If a warning light comes on or flashes at the same time that a warning message is
displayed, take corrective actio n according to the warning light. ( → P.427)*
: A buzzer sounds the first time a message is shown on the multi-information display.

Warning messages
The warning messages explained below
may differ from the actual messages
according to operation conditions and vehi-
cle specifications. ■
Warning buzzer
In some cases, the bu zzer may not be heard
due to being in a noisy location or audio
sound. ■
If “Engine Oil Level Low Add or
Replace” is displayed
The engine oil level is low. Check the level
of the engine oil, and add if necessary.
This message may appear if the vehicle is
stopped on a slope. Move the vehicle to a
level surface and check to see if the mes-
sage disappears.
■
If “Hybrid System Stopped Steering
Power Low” is displayed
This message is displa yed if the hybrid sys-
tem is stopped while driving.
When steering wheel operations are
heavier than usual, grip the steering wheel
firmly and operate it using more force than
usual. ■
If “Hybrid System Overheated Reduced
Output Power” is displayed
This message may be displayed when driv-
ing under severe operat ing conditions. (For
example, when driving up a long steep hill.)
Handling method: → P.453■
If “Warming Up Maximum Vehicle
Speed: 65 MPH” is displayed
The transmission is being warmed up and
the vehicle is unable to be driven over 65
mph (110 km/h). Wait until the transmission
warms up. ■
If “Stop the Vehicle in a Safe Place Shift
to P position” is displayed
There may be a malfunction in the hybrid
system or the shift position may be shifted to
N for a long time. I mmediately stop the
vehicle and contact your Lexus dealer.
■
If “Traction Battery Needs to be Pro-
tected Refrain From the Use of N Posi-
tion” is displayed
The remaining charge for the hybrid battery
(traction battery) is low.
As the hybrid battery (traction battery) can-
not be charged when the shift position is in
N, when stopping the vehicle for a long
period of time, shift the shift position to P.Comes on Does not sound Indicates a condition, such as malfunction of electri-
cal components, their cond ition, or indicates the
need for maintenance
Flashes Does not sound Indicates a situation, such as when an operation has
been performed incorrectly, or indicates how to

If “Traction Battery Needs to be Pro-
tected Shift into P to Restart” is dis-
played
The remaining charge for the hybrid battery
(traction battery) is low, because the shift
position has been shifted to N for a long
period of time.
When moving the vehicle, shift the shift
position to P and restart the hybrid system. ■
If “Shift Is in N Release Accelerator
Before Shifting” is displayed
The accelerator pedal has been depressed
when the shift position is in N.
Release the accelerator pedal and shift the
shift position to D or R. ■
If “Depress Brake When Vehicle Is
Stopped Hybrid Syst em May Overheat”
is displayed
The message may be displayed when the
accelerator pedal is depressed to hold the
vehicle while the vehicle is stopped on an
incline, etc. The hybrid system may over-
heat. Release the accelerator pedal and
depress the brake pedal. ■
If “Auto Power Off to Conserve Battery”
is displayed
Power was turned off due to the automatic
power off function. Next time when starting
the hybrid system, operate the hybrid sys-
tem for approximately 5 minutes to
recharge the 12-volt battery. ■
If “Headlight System Malfunction Visit
Your Dealer” is displayed
The following systems may be malfunction-
ing. Have the vehicle inspected by your
Lexus dealer immediately.

The LED headlight system
●
AFS (Adaptive Front-lighting System)
●
The automatic headlight leveling system
●
AHB (Automatic High Beam)

If “Front Camera Unavailable” or “Front
Camera Unavailable Remove Debris
On Windshield” is displayed
The following systems may be suspended
until the problem shown in the message is
resolved. ( → P.219, 226, 433) ●

LTA (Lane Tracing Assist) (if equipped) ●

Indicates that all maintenance according to
the driven distance on the maintenance

Comes on approximately 4500 miles
(7200 km) after the message has been
reset. If necessary, perform maintenance.
Please reset the message after the mainte-
nance is performed. ( → P.378)*
: Refer to the separate “Scheduled Main-
tenance” or “Owner’s Manual Supple-
ment” for the main tenance interval
applicable to your vehicle. ■
If “Maintenance Required Visit Your
Dealer” is displayed
Indicates that all mainte nance is required to
correspond to the driven distance on the
maintenance schedule *
.
Comes on approximately 5000 miles
(8000 km) after the message has been
reset. (The indicator will not work properly
unless the message ha s been reset.) Per-
form the necessary maintenance. Please
reset the message after the maintenance is
performed. ( → P.378) *

ment” for the main tenance interval
applicable to your vehicle.

If “Oil Maintenance Required Soon” is
displayed
Indicates that the engine oil should be
scheduled to be changed.
Check the engine oil an d change it if neces-
sary. After changing th e engine oil, make
sure to reset the message. ( → P.390)

When trouble arises ■
If “Oil Maintenance Required” is dis-
played
Indicates that the engine oil should be
changed.
Check and change the en gine oil, and oil fil-
ter by your Lexus deal er. After changing the
engine oil, make sure to reset the message.

If “Shift System Malfunction Driving
Unavailable” is displayed
There is a malfunction in the shift control
system. Have the vehicle inspected by your
Lexus dealer immediately. ■
If a message that in dicates the need for
the shift lever oper ation is displayed
To prevent the shift lever from being oper-
ated incorrectly or the vehicle from moving
unexpectedly, a message that requires shift-
ing the shift position may be displayed on
the multi-information display. In that case,
follow the instruction of the message and
shift the shift position. ■
If a message that in dicates the need for
visiting your Lexus dealer is displayed
The system or part shown on the
multi-information display is malfunctioning.
Have the vehicle inspected by your Lexus
dealer immediately. ■
If a message that in dicates the need for
referring to Owner’s Manual is dis-
played●
If any of the following messages are
shown on the multi-information display,
follow the instructions.
• “Engine Coolant Temp High” ( → P.453)
•“Battery Low” ( → P.447)
• “Transmission Fluid Temp High” ( → P.175)
●
If any of the following messages are
shown on the multi-information display, it
may indicate a malfunction. Have the
vehicle inspected by your Lexus dealer
immediately.
• “Access System with Elec. Key Malfunc-
tion”
• “Shift System Malfunction”
• “P Switch Malfunction”
• “Shift System Unavailable”
• “Hybrid System Malfunction”
•“Check Engine” • “Hybrid Battery System Malfunction”
• “Accelerator System Malfunction” ●
If any of the following messages are
shown on the multi-info rmation display, it
may indicate a malfun ction. Immediately
stop the vehicle and contact your Lexus
dealer.
• “Braking Power Low”
• “Charging System Malfunction”
• “Oil Pressure Low” ●
If “Maintenance Required for Traction
Battery Cooling Parts” is shown, the fil-
ters may be clogged, the air intake vents
may be blocked, or there may be a gap in
the duct. Therefore, perform the follow-
ing correction procedure.
• If the air intake vent s and filters of the
hybrid battery (traction battery) are dirty,
perform the procedure on P.374 to clean
them.
• If the warning message is shown when
the air intake vents and filters of the
hybrid battery (traction battery) are not
dirty, have the vehicle inspected by your
Lexus dealer.
NOTICE■
If “High Power Consumption Partial
Limit On AC/Heater Operation” is
displayed frequently
There is a possible malfunction relating
to the charging system or the 12-volt bat-
tery may be deteriorating. Have the vehi-
cle inspected by your Lexus dealer.
■
If “Have Traction Battery Inspected”
is displayed
This message indicates that the hybrid
battery (traction battery) may require
inspection or replacement. Have the
vehicle inspected by your Lexus dealer
immediately.
Do not continue driving the vehicle, as
the hybrid system may become not able
to be started again.

When trouble arises
One of the following may be the cause
of the problem:
 The electronic key may not be func-
tioning properly. ( → P.445)
 There may not be sufficient fuel in
the vehicle’s tank.
Refuel the vehicle.
 There may be a malfunction in the
immobilizer system. ( → P.66)
 There may be a malfunction in the
shift control system. *
( → P.171, 441)
 There may be a malfunction in the
steering lock system.
 The hybrid system may be malfunc-
tioning due to an electrical problem
such as electronic key battery
depletion or a blown fuse. However,
depending on the type of malfunc-
tion, an interim measure is available
to start the hybrid system. ( → P.443)
 There is a possibility that the tem-
perature of the hybrid battery (trac-
tion battery) is extremely low
(approximately below -22°F [-30°C]). ( → P.168) *
: It may not be possible to shift the shift
position from P.
One of the following may be the cause
of the problem:
 The 12-volt battery may be dis-
charged. ( → P.447)
 The 12-volt battery terminal con-
nections may be lo ose or corroded.
( → P.393)
One of the following may be the cause
of the problem:
 One or both of the 12-volt battery
terminals may be disconnected.
( → P.393)
 The 12-volt battery may be dis-
charged. ( → P.447)Contact your Lexus dealer if the problem
cannot be repaired, or if repair procedures
are unknown.
When the hybrid syst em does not start,
the following steps can be used as an
interim measure to start the hybrid sys-
tem if the power switch is functioning If the hybrid system will not
start Reasons for the hybrid system not
starting vary depending on the situ-
ation. Check the following and per-
form the appropriate procedure:
The hybrid system will not start
even though the correct starting
procedure is being followed.
( → P.168) The interior lights and head-
lights are dim, or the horn does
not sound or sounds at a low vol-
ume.
The interior lights and head-
lights do not turn on, or the horn
does not sound.

When trouble arises
Remove the cover inside the trunk and
pull the lever.
Using the lever to open the fuel filler
door may not allow for an adequate
reduction in fuel tank pressure before
refueling. To prevent fuel from spilling
out, turn the cap slowly when removing
it. During refueling, fuel may spill out
from the filler opening due to air being
discharged from inside the fuel tank.
Therefore, fill the fuel tank carefully and
slowly. ■
When the electronic key does not work
properly ●
Make sure that the smart access system
with push-button star t has not been dis-
abled at your Lexus dealer. If it has been
disabled, re-enable it. ●
Check if battery-saving mo de is set. If it is
set, cancel the function. ( → P.120)
■
Unlocking the door
Use the mechanical key ( → P.106) in
order to perform th e following opera-
tions:If the fuel filler door cannot
be opened If the fuel filler door opener switch
cannot be operated, contact your
Lexus dealer to service the vehicle.
In case where refueling is urgently
necessary, the following procedure
can be used to open the fuel filler
door.
Opening the fuel filler door If the electronic key does not
operate properly If communication between the
electronic key and vehicle is inter-
rupted ( → P.120) or the electronic
key cannot be used because the
battery is depleted, the smart
access system with push-button
start and wireless remote control
cannot be used. In such cases, the
doors and trunk can be opened and
the hybrid system can be started by
following the procedure below.
NOTICE■
In case of a smart access system with
push-button start malfunction or
other key-rela ted problems
Take your vehicle with all the electronic
keys provided with your vehicle to your
Lexus dealer.

When trouble arises 2 Touch the Lexus emblem side of the
electronic key to the power switch.When the electronic key is detected, a
buzzer sounds and the power switch will
turn to ON mode.
When the smart access system with
push-button start is de activated in custom-
ization setting, the powe r switch will turn to
ACCESSORY mode.
3 Firmly depress the brake pedal and
check that is shown on the
multi-information display.
4 Press the power switch.
In the event that the hybrid system still
cannot be started, contact your Lexus
dealer. ■
Stopping the hybrid system
Set the parking brake, shift the shift position
to P and press the power switch as you nor-
mally do when stopping the hybrid system.
■
Electronic key battery
As the above procedure is a temporary
measure, it is recomme nded that the elec-
tronic key battery be replaced immediately
when the battery is depleted. ( → P.413)
■
Changing power switch modes
Release the brake pedal and press the
power switch in step 3 above. The hybrid
system does not start and modes will be
changed each time the switch is pressed.
( → P.170) If you have a set of jumper (or booster)
cables and a second vehicle with a
12-volt battery, you can jump start your
vehicle by following the steps below. 

booster) cables to the 12-volt bat-
tery
1 Confirm that the electronic key is
being carried. When connecting the jumper (or booster)
cables, depending on the situation, the
alarm may activate and doors locked.

2 Open the trunk lid and remove the
luggage mat. ( → P.348)In the event that the trunk opener cannot
be used, use the mechanical key to open
the trunk. ( → P.445)If the 12-volt battery is dis-
charged The following procedures may be
used to start the hybrid system if the
12-volt battery is discharged.
You can also call your Lexus dealer
or a qualified repair shop.
Restarting the hybrid system

clamp on the other end of the positive cab le to on the second vehicle. Then,
connect a negative cable clamp to on the second vehicle and connect the
clamp at the other end of the negative cable to .
Positive (+) battery terminal (your vehicle)
Positive (+) battery terminal (second vehicle)
Negative (-) battery terminal (second vehicle)
Negative (-) battery terminal (your vehicle)
4 Start the engine of the second vehi-
cle. Increase the engine speed
slightly and maintain at that level for
approximately 5 minutes to
recharge the 12-volt battery of your
vehicle.
5 Open and close any of the doors of
your vehicle with the power switch
off.
6 Maintain the engine speed of the
second vehicle and start the hybrid
system of your vehicle by turning
the power switch to ON mode.
7 Make sure the “READY” indicator
comes on. If the indicator does not
come on, contact your Lexus
dealer.
8 Once the hybrid system has
started, remove the jumper cables in the exact reverse order from
which they were connected. 

jump starting terminal
1 Confirm that the electronic key is
being carried. When connecting the jumper (or booster)
cables, depending on the situation, the
alarm may activate and doors locked.
