Before driving
Deactivating the curtain shield airbags in a vehicle rollover
ON/OFF (Pressing longer)
The RSCA OFF (roll sensing of
curtain shield airbags off)
indicator light turns on.
(Only when the ignition key is in
the “ON” position.)
CAUTION
■Modification and disposal of SRS airbag system components
Do not dispose of your vehicle or perfor m any of the following modifications with-
out consulting your Lexus dealer. The SRS airbag may malfunction or deploy
(inflate) accidentally, causing death or serious injury.
●Installation, removal, disassembly and repair of the SRS airbags
●Repairs, modifications, removal or replace ment of the steering wheel, instrument
panel, dashboard, seats or seat upholstery, front, side and rear pillars or roof side
rail
●Repairs or modifications of the front fend er, front bumper, or side of the occupant
compartment
●Installation of snow plows, winches, etc. to the front grille (bull bars, kangaroo bar
etc.)
●Modifications to the vehi cle's suspension system
●Installation of electronic devices such as mobile two-way radios or CD players
●Modifications to your vehicle for a person with a physical disability.

Driving the vehicle
Starting on a steep inclineFirmly set the parking brake and shift the shift lever to “D”.
Gently depress the accelerator pedal.
Release the parking brake.
The following procedures should be observed to ensure safe driving.
■ Starting the engine ( P. 9 5 )
■ Driving
With the brake pedal depressed, shift the shift lever to “D”. (P. 9 8 )
Release the parking brake. ( P. 103)
Gradually release the brake peda l and gently push the accel-
erator pedal to accelerate the vehicle.
■ Stopping
With the shift lever in “D”, push the brake pedal.
If necessary, set the parking brake.
When the vehicle is stopped for an extended period of time, shift the
shift lever to “P” or “N”. (
P. 9 8 )
■Parking the vehicle
With the shift lever in “D”, push the brake pedal.
Set the parking brake. ( P. 103)
Shift the shift lever to “P”. ( P. 9 8 )
Turn the ignition key to stop the engine.
Lock the door, making sure that you have the key on your per-
son.

START
■ Starting the engine
Check that the parking brake is set.
Check that the shift lever is set in “P”.
Sit in the driver’s seat and firmly depress the brake pedal.
Turn the ignition key to the “START” position and start the
engine.

T■Steering lock release
■ If the engine does not start
The engine immobilizer system may not have been deactivated. (P. 4 7 )
■Starting the engine using the flat key
Put the key case away when the indicator light goes out. This means the
engine immobilizer system has turned off.
Start the engine within 60 seconds after the indicator light goes off.
When starting the engine, the ignition switch
may seem stuck in the “LOCK” position. To
free it, turn the ignition key while turning the
steering wheel sightly in either direction.
Remove the flat key from its case. Insert the
key into the ignition switch. STEP1
Bring the key case close to the ignition switch
within 10 seconds as indicated by an arrow. STEP2

When driving
■Cranking hold function
Once you turn the ignition key to “START” position and release it, the function con-
tinues to crank the engine in “ON” position until it starts. If the engine has not
started, the function stops after about 25 seconds. Wait a few seconds and restart
it.
■Leak detection pump
Several hours after the engine is turned off, you may hear a sound coming from
underneath the luggage compartment for several minutes. This is normal operation
and does not indicate a malfunction.
CAUTION
■When starting the engine
Always start the engine while sitting in the driver’s seat. Do not press the accelera-
tor pedal while starting the en gine under any circumstances.
Doing so may cause an accident resu lting in death or serious injury.
■When driving
Do not turn the ignition switch to the “LOCK” position while driving. If, in an emer-
gency, you must turn the engine off while the vehicle is moving, turn the key only to
the “ACC” position.
NOTICE
■To prevent battery discharge
Do not leave the ignition key in the “ACC” or “ON” position for long periods with-
out the engine running.
■When starting the engine
●Do not race a cold engine.
●If the engine becomes difficult to start or stalls frequently, have the engine
checked immediately.

Gauges and meters
The units used on the speedometer may differ depending on the target
region.
The following gauges, meters and display illuminate when the ignition
key is turned to the “ON” position.
Voltmeter
Displays the charge state.
Speedometer
Displays the vehicle speed.
Tachometer
Displays the engine speed in revolutions per minute.
Engine oil pressure gauge
Displays the engine oil pressure.
Engine coolant temperature gauge
Displays the engine coolant temperature.

CAUTION
■If a safety system warning light does not come on
Should a safety system light such as ABS and the SRS airbag warning lights not
come on when the ignition key is turned to the “ON” position, this could mean that
these systems are not available to help protect you in an accident, which could
result in death or serious injury. Have the vehicle inspected by your Lexus dealer
immediately if this occurs.
■ Warning lights
Warning lights inform the driver of malfunctions in the indicated
vehicle’s systems. ( P. 3 3 7 )
*: These lights turn on when the ignition key is turned to the “ON” position
to indicate that a system check is being performed. They will turn off
after the engine is started, or after a few seconds. There may be a mal-
function in a system if the lights do not come on, or if the lights do not
turn off. Have the vehicle inspected by your Lexus dealer.

Headlight switch
Turning on the high beam headlightsWith the headlights on, push the
lever forward to turn on the high
beams.
Pull the lever back to the center
position to turn the high beams off.
Pull the lever toward you to turn
on the high beams.
Release to turn them off. You can
flash the high beams with the head-
lights on or off.
The headlights can be operated manually or automatically.
The side marker, parking,
tail, license plate and
instrument panel lights
turn on.
The headlights and all lights listed above turn
on.
