depending on the type of vehicle or
engine.
Wipe the dipstick and reinsert it fully.
■ Adding engine oil
If the oil level is below or near the
low level mark, add engine oil of
the same type as already in the
engine. ( P. 889)

Engine oil consumption
A certain amount of engine oil will be consumed while driving. In the following situ-
ations, oil consumption may increase, and engine oil may need to be refilled in
between oil maintenance intervals. ●
When the engine is new, for example di rectly after purchasing the vehicle or
after replacing the engine ●
If low quality oil or oil of an inappropriate viscosity is used●
When driving at high engine speeds or with a heavy load, when towing, or when
driving while accelerating or decelerating frequently ●
When leaving the engine idling for a lo ng time, or when driving frequently
through heavy traffic STEP 1

LX570_OM_OM60L96U_(U) CAUTION■
Used engine oil ●
Used engine oil contains potentially harmful contaminants which may cause skin
disorders such as inflammation or skin cancer, so care should be taken to avoid
prolonged and repeated contact. To remove used engine oil from your skin, wash
thoroughly with soap and water. ●
Dispose of used oil and filters only in a safe and acceptable manner. Do not dis-
pose of used oil and filters in household trash, in sewers or onto the ground. Call
your Lexus dealer, service station or auto parts stor e for information concerning
recycling or disposal. ●
Do not leave used engine oil within the reach of children.
NOTICE■
To prevent serious engine damage
Check the oil level on regular basis. ■
When replacing the engine oil ●
Be careful not to spill engine oil on the vehicle components. ●
Avoid overfilling, as the engine could be damaged.●
Check the oil level on the dipstick every time you refill the vehicle. ●
Be sure the engine oil filler cap is properly tightened.

8245-1. Essential information
LX570_OM_OM60L96U_(U) If you think something is wrong If you notice any of the following sy mptoms, your vehicle probably needs
adjustment or repair. Contact your Lexus dealer as soon as possible.
■ Visible symptoms
● Fluid leaks under the vehicle
(Water dripping from the air conditioning after use is normal.)
● Flat-looking tires or uneven tire wear
● Engine coolant temperature gaug e needle continually points
higher than normal
● Engine oil pressure gauge continually points lower than normal.
● Voltmeter continually points higher or lower than normal.
■ Audible symptoms
● Changes in exhaust sound
● Excessive tire squeal when cornering
● Strange noises related to the suspension system
● Pinging or other noises related to the engine
■ Operational symptoms
● Engine missing, stumbling or running rough
● Appreciable loss of power
● Vehicle pulls heavily to one side when braking
● Vehicle pulls heavily to one side when driving on a level road
● Loss of brake effectiveness, spongy feeling, pedal almost touches
the floor

The airbag sensor assembly ●
Front impact sensors ●
Side impact sensors (rear) ●
Side impact sensors (front door) ●
Safing sensor (rear) ●
The driver’s seat belt buckle switch ●
The driver’s seat position sensor ●

Changing the engine oil
Make sure to rese t oil change system■
When the tire pressure warning light comes on
Check the tire inflation pressure and adju st to the appropriate level. Pushing the
tire pressure warning reset sw itch does not turn off the tire pressure warning light.■
The tire pressure warning light may come on due to natural causes
The tire pressure warning light may come on due to natural causes such as natural
air leaks or tire inflation pressure change s caused by temperature. In this case,
adjusting the tire inflation pressure will turn off the warning light (after a few min-
utes).

Resetting the tire pressure warning data
After adjusting the tire inflation pressure, be sure to initialize the data. ( P. 768)
If the message remains on, the system may have malfunctioned. Have the vehicle
inspected by your Lexus dealer as soon as possible. ■
Warning message in vehicle-to-vehicle distance control mode of the dynamic
radar cruise cont rol (if equipped)
In the following cases, the warning message may not be displayed even if vehicle-
to-vehicle distance decreases: ●
When your vehicle and the vehicle ahead are traveling at the same speed or the
vehicle ahead is traveling more quickly than your vehicle ●
When the vehicle ahead is traveling at a very low speed ●
Immediately after cruise control speed is set ●
At the instant the accelerator pedal is depressed
NOTICE■
While the engine oil level warning is displayed
Continued engine operation with low engine oil will damage the engine.

* : The engine oil capacity is a reference qu antity to be used when changing the
engine oil. Warm up and turn off the engine, wait more than 5 minutes, and
check the oil level on the dipstick.
■ Engine oil selection
“Toyota Genuine Motor Oil” is used in your Lexus vehicle. Use Lexus
approved “Toyota Genuine Motor Oil” or equivalent to satisfy the follow-
ing grade and viscosity.
Oil grade: ILSAC GF-5 multigrade engine oil
Recommended viscosity: SAE 0W-20
SAE 0W-20 is the best choice for
good fuel economy and good
starting in cold weather.
If SAE 0W-20 is not available,
SAE 5W-20 oil may be used.
However, it must be replaced with
SAE 0W-20 at the next oil
change.Oil capacity

8906-1. Specifications
LX570_OM_OM60L96U_(U) Oil viscosity (0W-20 is explained here as an example):
• The 0W in 0W-20 indicates the char acteristic of the oil which allows
cold startability. Oils with a lower value before the W allow for easier
starting of the engine in cold weather.
• The 20 in 0W-20 indicates the viscosity characteristic of the oil when
the oil is at high temperature. An oil with a higher viscosity (one with a
higher value) may be b etter suited if the vehicl e is operated at high
speeds, or under extreme load conditions.
How to read oil container label:
The International Lubr icant Specification Advisory Committee (ILSAC)
Certification Mark is added to some oil containers to help you select the
oil you should use.
