Maintenance and care WA R N I N G ■
Replacing light bulbs ●
Turn off the headlights. Do not attempt to replace the bulb immediately after turning
off the headlights.
The bulbs become very hot and may cause burns. ●
Do not touch the glass portion of the light bulb with bare hands. When it is unavoid-
able to hold the glass portion, use and ho ld with a clean dry cloth to avoid getting
moisture and oils on the bulb.
Also, if the bulb is scratched or dropped, it may blow out or crack.●
Fully install light bulbs and any parts used to secure them. Failure to do so may result
in heat damage, fire, or water entering the headlight unit. This may damage the head-
lights or cause condensation to build up on the lens.●
Do not attempt to repair or disassemble light bulbs, connectors, electric circuits or
component parts.
Doing so may result in death or se rious injury due to electric shock.■
To prevent damage or fire ●
Make sure bulbs are fully seated and locked. ●
Check the wattage of the bulb before installin g to prevent heat damage.

When trouble arises Securely attach cables or chains to
the towing hooks. Take care not to damage the vehicle
body.
Enter the vehicle being towed and start the engine.
If the engine does not start, turn the engine switch to the IGNITION ON
mode.
Shift the four-wheel drive control switch to “H4”. (The center differential is
unlocked.)
Change the vehicle height to N (normal) mode and press the height control
OFF button to end the vehicle height control operation. (  P. 3 0 0 )
Shift the shift lever to N and release the parking brake.
When the shift lever cannot be shifted:  P. 5 4 9■
While towing
If the engine is not running, the power assist for the brakes and steering will not function,
making steering and br aking more difficult.Emergency towing procedure 1

Observe the following precautions.
Failure to do so may result in death or serious injury. ■
When towing the vehicle

While towing ●
When towing using cables or chains, avoid sudden starts, etc. which place excessive
stress on the towing hooks, cables or chains . The towing hooks, cables or chains may
become damaged, broken debris may hit people and cause serious damage.●
Do not turn the engine switch off.
There is a possibility that the steering wheel is locked and cannot be operated.Be sure to transport the vehicle with all four
wheels raised off the ground. If the vehicle is
towed with the tires contacting the ground, the
drivetrain or related parts may be damaged,
the vehicle may fly off the truck.

When trouble arises NOTICE ■
To prevent damage to the vehicle when towing using a wheel-lift type truck●
Do not tow the vehicle from the rear when the engine switch is off. The steering lock
mechanism is not strong enough to hold the front wheels straight.●
When raising the vehicle, ensure adequate ground clearance for towing at the oppo-
site end of the raised vehicle. Without adequate clearance, the vehicle could be dam-
aged while being towed. ■
To prevent damage to the vehicle when towing with a sling-type truck
Do not tow with a sling-type truck, either from the front or rear. ■
To prevent damage to the vehicle during emergency towing
Do not secure cables or chains to the suspension components. ■
To avoid serious damage to your vehicle
Do not use the rear emergency towing hook.

Low speed four-wheel drive indicator light
Indicates a malfunction in the four -wheel drive system if the light
continues flashing. (  P. 3 0 5 )
 Have the vehicle inspected by your Lexus dealer immediately. (Flashes)
Center differential lock indicator light
Indicates a malfunction in the four -wheel drive system if the light
continues flashing. (  P. 3 0 5 )
 Have the vehicle inspected by your Lexus dealer immediately.
Open door warning light (warning buzzer)

Indicates that a door is not fully closed
 Check that all the doors are closed.
Low fuel level warning light
Indicates that remaining fuel is approximately 4.0 gal. (15.0 L,
3.3 Imp.gal.) or less
 Refuel the vehicle.
Driver’s seat belt reminder light (warning buzzer)

Warns the driver to fast en his/her seat belt.
 Fasten the seat belt. (On the center panel)
Front passenger’s seat belt reminder light (warning buzzer)

Warns the front passenger to fasten his/her seat belt.
 Fasten the seat belt.
Master warning light
A buzzer sounds and the warning light comes on or flashes to indi-
cate that the master warning sy stem has detected a malfunction.

Tire pressure warning light
Indicates that:
•Flat tire
• Natural causes
• The tire pressure warning system is malfunctioning
 Immediately stop the vehicle in a safe place.

Power steering system warning light (warning buzzer)
Indicates a malfunction in the power steering system
 Have the vehicle inspected by your Lexus dealer immediately. (Flashes)

Parking brake indicator
Indicates that the parking brake is not fully engaged or released
 Operate the parking brake switch once again.
This light comes on when the parking brake is not released.

SRS warning light
This warning light system monitors the airbag sensor assembly, front impact sensors, side
impact sensors (rear), side imp act sensors (front door), safing sensor (rear), driver’s seat
belt buckle switch, driver’s seat position sens or, front passenger’s seat belt buckle switch,
airbags, interconnecting wiring and power sources, front passenger occupant classifica-
tion system, “AIR BAG ON” and “AIR BAG OFF” indicator lights, seat belt pretensioners
and force limiters, “RSCA OFF” indicator light. (  P. 3 8 )■
Front passenger detection sensor, seat belt reminder and warning buzzer●
If luggage is placed on the front passenger seat, the front passenger detection sensor
may cause the warning light to flash and the warning buzzer to sound even if a passen-
ger is not sittin g in the seat.●
If a cushion is placed on th e seat, the sensor may not detect a passenger, and the warn-
ing light may not operate properly. ■
If the malfunction indicator lamp comes on while driving
First check the following: ●
Is the fuel tank empty?
If it is, fill the fuel tank immediately. ●
Is the fuel tank cap loose?
If it is, tighten it securely.
The light will go off after several driving trips.
If the light does not go off even after severa l trips, contact your Lexus dealer as soon as
possible. ■
If the low speed four-wheel drive indicator light or the center differential lock indicator
light blinks
Take the specified steps. (  P. 3 0 7 )
If the brake system warning light or the malf unction indicator light also comes on, or the
low speed four-wheel drive indicator light or the center differential lock indicator light
continues to blink after takin g the specified steps, there may be a malfunction in the
engine, the brake system or the four-wheel drive system. In this case, you may not be able
to transfer between “H4” and “L4” modes, and the center differential lock may not be
able to be locked or unlocked. Have the vehicle inspected by your Lexus dealer, immedi-
ately.

One or both of the battery terminals may be disconnected. ●
The battery may be discharged. (  P. 5 5 3 )●
There may be a malfunction in the steering lock system. Contact your Lexus dealer if the problem cannot be repaired, or if repair procedures
are unknown.
When the engine does not start, the following steps can be used as an interim
measure to start the engine if the engine switch is functioning normally.
Set the parking brake.
Put the shift lever in P.
Set the engine switch to the ACCESSORY mode.
Push and hold the engine switch for about 15 seconds while depressing the
brake pedal firmly.
Even if the engine can be started using the above steps, the system may be mal-
functioning. Have the vehicle inspected by your Lexus dealer.The starter motor does not turn ove r, the interior lights and headlights
do not turn on, or the horn does not sound.

If the shift lever cannot be shifted from P Set the parking brake.
Turn the engine switch to ACCESSORY mode.
Depress the brake pedal.
Pry the cover up with a flathead
screwdriver or equivalent tool. To prevent damage to the cover, cover
the tip of the screwdriver with a rag.
Press the shift lock override button. The shift lever can be shifted while the
button is pressed.If the shift lever cannot be shifted with your foot on the brake pedal, there may
be a problem with the shift lock system (a system to prevent accidental opera-
tion of the shift lever). Have the vehicl e inspected by your Lexus dealer, imme-
diately.
The following steps may be used as an emergency measure to ensure that the
shift lever can be shifted: 1

If the electronic key do es not operate properlyUse the mechanical key (  P. 111) in
order to perform the following opera-
tions (driver’s door only):
Locks all the doors
Closes the windows and moon roof
*(turn and hold)
Unlocks the doors Turning the key rearward unlocks the
driver’s door. Turning the key once again
unlocks the other doors.
Opens the windows and moon roof
* (turn and hold)
* : These settings must be cust omized at your Lexus dealer.If communication between the electronic key and vehicle is interrupted
(  P. 134) or the electronic key ca nnot be used because the battery is
depleted, the smart access system with push-button start and wireless
remote control cannot be used. In such cases, the doors can be opened and
the engine can be started by following the procedure below.

When trouble arises Ensure that the shift lever is in P and depress the brake pedal.
Touch the Lexus emblem side of the
electronic key to the engine switch. When the electronic key is detected, a
buzzer sounds and the engine switch
will turn to IGNITION ON mode.
When the smart access system with
push-button start is deactivated in cus-
tomization setting, the engine switch will
turn to ACCESSORY mode.
Firmly depress the brake pedal and check that is shown on the
multi-information display.
Press the engine switch. In the event that the engine still cannot be started, contact your Lexus dealer.■
Stopping the engine
Shift the shift lever to P and press the engine switch as you normally do when stopping
the engine. ■
Replacing the key battery
As the above procedure is a temporary measure, it is recommended that the electronic
key battery be replaced immediately when the battery is depleted. (  P. 5 0 3 )■
Changing engine switch modes
Release the brake pedal and press the engine switch in step above. The engine does
not start and modes will be changed each time the switch is pressed. (  P. 2 0 6 )■
Alarm
Using the mechanical key to lock th e doors will not set the alarm system.
If a door is unlocked using the mechanical key when the alarm system is set, the alarm
may be triggered. (  P. 7 8 )■
When the electronic key does not work properly ●
Make sure that the smart access system wi th push-button start has not been deacti-
vated in the custom ization setting. If it is off, turn the function on.
