Maintenance and care With the engine at operating temperatur e and turned off, check the oil level on
the dipstick. ■
Checking the engine oil
Park the vehicle on level ground. Afte r warming up the engine and turning
it off, wait more than 5 minutes for the oil to drain back into the bottom of
the engine.
Holding a rag under the end, pull
the dipstick out.
Wipe the dipstick clean.
Reinsert the dipstick fully.
Holding a rag under the end, pull the dipstick out and check the oil level.

Adding engine oil
If the oil level is below or near the
low level mark, add engine oil of the
same type as already in the engine.
Make sure to check the oil type and prepare the items needed before adding
oil.
Remove the oil filler cap by turning it counterclockwise.
Add engine oil slowly, checking the dipstick.
Install the oil filler cap by turning it clockwise.■
Engine oil consumption
A certain amount of engine oil will be consumed while driving. In th e following situations,
oil consumption may increase, and engine oil may need to be refilled in between oil
maintenance intervals. ●
When the engine is new, for example directly after purchasing the vehicle or after
replacing the engine ●
If low quality oil or oil of an inappropriate viscosity is used ●
When driving at high engine speeds or with a heavy load, when towing, or when driving
while accelerating or decelerating frequently ●
When leaving the engine idling for a long time, or when drivin g frequently through
heavy traffic ■
After changing the engine oil
The engine oil maintenance data should be reset. Perform the following procedures:
Press or of the meter control switches, select .
Press or of the meter control swit ches, select “Oil Maintenance” and then
press .
Select the “Yes” and press .

Used engine oil ●
Used engine oil contains potentially harm ful contaminants which may cause skin dis-
orders such as inflammation or skin canc er, so care should be taken to avoid pro-
longed and repeated contact. To remove used engine oil from your skin, wash
thoroughly with soap and water. ●
Dispose of used oil and filters only in a sa fe and acceptable manner. Do not dispose of
used oil and filters in household trash, in sewers or onto the ground. Call your Lexus
dealer, service station or auto parts store for information concerning recycling or dis-
posal. ●
Do not leave used engine oil within the reac h of children.
NOTICE ■
To prevent serious engine damage
Check the oil level on regular basis. ■
When replacing the engine oil ●
Be careful not to spill engine oil on the vehicle components.●
Avoid overfilling, or the engine could be damaged. ●
Check the oil level on the dipstick every time you refill the vehicle.●
Be sure the engine oil fille r cap is properly tightened.

If you think something is wrong ●
Fluid leaks under the vehicle
(Water dripping from the air co nditioning after use is normal)●

When trouble arises ■
When the tire pressure warning light comes on
Inspect the tires to check if a tire is punctured.
If a tire is punctured: → P. 532
If none of the tires are punctured:
Turn the engine switch off then turn it to IGNITION ON mode. Check if the tire pressure
warning light comes on or flashes. 
If the tire pressure warning light comes on
After the temperature of the tires has lowere d sufficiently, check the inflation pressure
of each tire and adjust th em to the specified level.
If the warning light does not turn off even after several minutes have elapsed, check
that the inflation pressure of each tire is at the specified level an d perform initialization.

If the warning light does not turn off even after several minutes have elapsed, have the
vehicle inspected by your Lexus dealer immediately. 
If the tire pressure wa rning light flashes for 1 minute then stay on
There may be a malfunction in the tire pressure warnin g system. Have the vehicle
inspected by your Lexus dealer immediately. ■
The tire pressure warning light ma y turn on due to natural causes
The tire pressure warning light may turn on du e to natural causes such as natural air leaks
or tire inflation pressure changes caused by temperature. In this case, adjusting the tire
inflation pressure will turn off the warning light (after a few minutes).■
When a tire is replaced with a spare tire
The spare tire is also equipped with the tire pressure warning valve and transmitter. The
tire pressure warning light will tu rn on if the tire inflation pressu re of the spare tire is low. If
a tire goes flat, even though the flat tire is replaced with the spare tire, the tire pressure
warning light does not turn off. Replace the spare tire with the repaired tire and adjust the
proper tire inflation pressure. The tire pressu re warning light will tu rn off after a few min-
utes. ■

If “See Owner’s Manual” is shown ●
If “Smart Access System Ma lfunction” is shown, this may be a malfunction.
Immediately have the vehicle inspected by your Lexus dealer. ●
If “Transmission Fluid Temp High” is shown, it indicates that the automatic transmission
fluid temperature is too high.
Immediately stop the vehicle in a safe place, shift the shift lever to P and wait until the
warning message and light go off. If the warning message and light go off, you may
start the vehicle again. If the warning message and light do not go off, contact your
Lexus dealer. ■
If “Shift to P Before Ex iting Vehicle” is shown
Message is displayed when the driver’s door is opened without turning the engine switch
to off with the shift lever in any position other than P.
Shift the shift lever to P. ■
If “Power Turned Off to Save Battery” is shown
Power was turned off due to the automatic power off function.
Next time when starting the engine, increase the engine speed slig htly and maintain that
level for approximately 5 minu tes to recharge the battery.■
When a message that indicates the need for the shift lever operation is shown
To prevent the shift lever from being operat ed incorrectly or the vehicle from moving
unexpectedly, a message that re quires shifting the shift leve r may be shown on the multi-
information display. In that case, follow the instruction of the message and shift the shift
lever. ■
When “Headlight System Malfunction Visit Your Dealer” is displayed on the multi-
information display
The following systems may be malfunctioning. Have the vehicle inspected by your Lexus
dealer. ●
The LED headlight system ●
The automatic headlight leveling system ●
Automatic High Beam ■
If “Forward Camera System Unavailable” or “Forward Camera System Unavailable
Clean Windshield” is displayed (if equipped)
The following systems may be suspended until the problem shown in the message is
resolved. ●
PCS (Pre-Collision System) ●
LDA (Lane Departure Alert) ●
Dynamic radar cruise control with full-speed range ●
Automatic High Beam ■
If “Engine Oil Level Low” is shown
Indicates that engine oil level is low.
Check the level of engine oil, and add if necessary.
This message may appe ar if the vehicle is stopped on a slope.
Move the vehicle to a level surface and check to see if the message disappears.

Check the engine oil, and change if necessary. After changing the engine oil, the mes-
sage should be reset. ( → P. 475)■
If “Oil Maintenance Required Visit Your Dealer” is shown
Indicates that the engine oil should be ch anged. (The indicator will not work properly
unless the message has been reset.)
Check and change the engine o il, and oil filter by your Lexus dealer. After changing the
engine oil, the messag e should be reset. ( → P. 475)■
If “Visit Your Dealer” is shown
The system or part shown on the multi-info rmation display is malfunctioning. Have the
vehicle inspected by your Lexus dealer immediately. ■

While the engine oil level warning is displayed
Continued engine operation with low engine oil will damage the engine.

WARNING ■
Replacing a flat tire ●
Observe the following precautions.
Failure to do so may result in serious injury:
• Lower the spare tire completely to the ground before removing it from under the
vehicle.
• Do not try to remove the wheel ornament by hand. Take due care in handling the
ornament to avoid unexpected personal injury.
• Do not touch the disc wheels or the area around the brakes immediately after the
vehicle has been driven.
After the vehicle has been driven the disc wheels and the area around the brakes
will be extremely hot. Touching these areas with hands, feet or other body parts
while changing a tire, etc. may result in burns.
• Turn off the vehicle height control.
The vehicle height may change due to th e automatic leveling function and you may
catch part of your body in the ve hicle, resulting in an accident. ( → P. 295)●
Failure to follow these precautions could cau se the wheel nuts to loosen and the tire
to fall off, resulting in death or serious injury.
• Never use oil or grease on the wheel bolts or wheel nuts.
Oil and grease may cause the wheel nuts to be excessively tightened, leading to
bolt or disc wheel damage. In addition, the oil or grease can cause the wheel nuts
to loosen and the wheel may fall off, causing a serious accident. Remove any oil or
grease from the wheel bolts or wheel nuts.
• Have the wheel nuts tightened with a torque wrench to 97 ft
• lbf (131 N
• m, 13.4

• m) as soon as possible after changing wheels.
• When installing a tire, only use wheel nuts that have been specifically designed for
that wheel.
• If there are any cracks or deformations in the bolt screws, nut threads or bolt holes
of the wheel, have the vehicle inspected by your Lexus dealer.
• Do not attach a heavily damaged wheel or nament, as it may fly off the wheel while
the vehicle is moving.■
Replacing a flat tire for vehicles with power back door
In cases such as when replacing tires, make sure to turn off the power back door main
switch ( → P. 124). Failure to do so may cause the back door to operate unintentionally if
the power back door switch is accidentally touched, re sulting in hands and fingers
being caught and injured.
