Maintenance and care WARNING ■
Tire pressure warning system operation
The tire pressure warning system may not pr ovide warning immediat ely if a tire bursts
or if sudden air leakage occurs. ■
When inspecting or replacing tires
Observe the following precautions to prevent accidents.
Failure to do so may cause damage to parts of the drive train, as well as dangerous han-
dling characteristics, which may lead to an accident resu lting in death or serious injury.●
Do not mix tires of different makes, models or tread patterns.
Also, do not mix tires of remarkably different treadwear. ●
Do not use tire sizes other than those recommended by Lexus. ●
Do not mix differently constructed tires (radial, bias-belted or bias-ply tires). ●
Do not mix summer, all season and snow tires. ●
Do not use tires that have be en used on another vehicle.
Do not use tires if you do not know how they were used previously. ■
When initializing the tire pressure warning system
Do not operate the tire pressure warning reset switch without first adjusting the tire
inflation pressure to the spec ified level. Otherwis e, the tire pressure warning light may
not come on even if the tire inflation pressu re is low, or it may come on when the tire
inflation pressure is actually normal.

: Brake system warning buzzer:
The buzzer sounds to indicate that the brake fluid level is low (with the vehicle
reached a speed of 3 mph [5 km/h]).

: Open door warning buzzer:
The open door warning buzzer sounds to alert one or more of the doors is not fully
closed (with the vehicle having reached a speed of 3mph [5 km/h]).

: Driver’s seat belt buzzer:
The driver’s seat belt buzzer sounds to alert the driver that his or her seat belt is not
fastened. Once the engine switch is turned to IGNITION ON mode, the buzzer
sounds for 6 seconds. If the vehicle reaches a speed of 12 mph (20 km/h), the buzzer
sounds once. If the seat belt is still unfast ened after 24 seconds, the buzzer will sound
intermittently for 10 seconds. Then, if the se at belt is still unfa stened, the buzzer will
sound in a different tone for 20 more seconds.
Front passenger’s seat belt buzzer:
The front passenger’s seat belt buzzer soun ds to alert the front passenger that his or
her seat belt is not fastened. The buzzer so unds once if the vehicle reaches a speed of
12 mph (20 km/h). If the seat belt is still unfastened after 24 se conds, the buzzer will
sound intermittently for 10 se conds. Then, if the seat belt is still unfastened, the buzzer
will sound in a different to ne for 20 more seconds.

: Parking brake engaged warning buzzer:
A buzzer sounds to indicate that the par king brake is still engaged (with the vehicle
having reached a speed of 3 mph [5 km/h]). Brake system warning light

One or both of the battery terminals may be disconnected. ●
The battery may be discharged. ( P. 552)●
There may be a malfunction in the steering lock system.Contact your Lexus dealer if the problem cannot be repaired, or if repair procedures
are unknown.
When the engine does not start, the follo wing steps can be used as an interim
measure to start the engine if the engine switch is functioning normally.
Set the parking brake.
Put the shift lever in P.
Set the engine switch to the ACCESSORY mode.
Push and hold the engine switch for about 15 seconds while depressing the
brake pedal firmly.
Even if the engine can be started using the above steps, the system may be mal-
functioning. Have the vehicle in spected by your Lexus dealer.The starter motor does not turn ove r, the interior lights and headlights
do not turn on, or the horn does not sound.

Touch the Lexus emblem side of the
electronic key to the engine switch. When the electronic key is detected, a
buzzer sounds and the engine switch
will turn to IGNITION ON mode.
When the smart access system with
push-button start is deactivated in cus-
tomization setting, the engine switch will
turn to ACCESSORY mode.
Firmly depress the brake pedal and check that is shown on the
multi-information display.
Press the engine switch. In the event that the engine still cannot be started, contact your Lexus dealer.■
Stopping the engine
Shift the shift lever to P and press the engine switch as you normally do when stopping
the engine. ■
Replacing the key battery
As the above procedure is a temporary measure, it is recommended that the electronic
key battery be replaced immediately when the battery is depleted. ( P. 505)■
Changing engine switch modes
Release the brake pedal and press the engine switch in step above. The engine does
not start and modes will be changed e ach time the switch is pressed. ( P. 212)■
Alarm
Using the mechanical key to lock th e doors will not set the alarm system.
If a door is unlocked using the mechanical ke y when the alarm system is set, the alarm
may be triggered. ( P. 82)■
When the electronic key does not work properly ●
Make sure that the smart access system wi th push-button start has not been deacti-
vated in the customization setting. If it is off, turn the function on.

Check if battery-saving mode is set. If it is set, cancel the function. ( P. 140)Starting the engine 1

When trouble arises Start the engine of the second vehicle. Increase the engine speed slightly and
maintain at that level for approximatel y 5 minutes to recharge the battery of
your vehicle.
Open and close any of the doors with the engine switch off.
Maintain the engine speed of the second vehicle and turn the engine switch to
IGNITION ON mode, then start the vehicle’s engine.
Once the vehicle’s engine has started, remove the jumper cables in the exact
reverse order in which they were connected.
Once the engine starts, have the vehicl e checked at your Lexus dealer, as soon
as possible. ■
Starting the engine when the battery is discharged
The engine cannot be started by push-starting. ■
Avoiding a discharged battery ●
Turn off the headlights and the audio system while the engine is off. ●
Turn off any unnecessary electrical componen ts when the vehicle is running at a low
speed for an extended period, such as in heavy traffic, etc. ■
Charging the battery
The electricity stored in the battery will disc harge gradually even when the vehicle is not
in use, due to natural discharge and the draini ng effects of certain electrical appliances. If
the vehicle is left for a long time, the battery may discharge, and the engine may be
unable to start. (The battery recharges automatically during driving.) ■
When the battery is removed or discharged

If the vehicle becomes stuck Stop the engine. Set the parking br ake and shift the shift lever to P.
Remove the mud, snow or sand from around the rear wheels.
Place wood, stones or some other materi al under the rear wheels to help pro-
vide traction.
Restart the engine.
Shift the shift lever to the D or R positi on and release the parking brake. Then,
while exercising caution, depress the accelerator pedal. ■
When it is difficult to free the vehicle
