NX300h_U_OM78007UAlarm The alarm uses light and sound to give an alert when an intrusion is detected.
The alarm is triggered in the following situations when the alarm is set: ●
A locked door is unlocked or opened in any way other than using the entry
function, wireless remote control or mech anical key. (The doors will lock again
automatically.) ●
The hood is opened.
Close the doors and hood, and lock all
the doors. The system will be set auto-
matically after 30 seconds. The indicator light changes from being
on to flashing when the system is set.
Do one of the following to de activate or stop the alarms:●
Unlock the doors. ●
Turn the power switch to ACCESSORY or ON mode, or start the hybrid sys-
tem. (The alarm will be deactivated or stopped after a few seconds.)The alarm

System maintenance
The vehicle has a maintenance-free type alarm system. ■
Items to check before locking the vehicle
To prevent unexpected triggering of the alarm and vehicle theft, make sure of the follow-
ing: ●
Nobody is in the vehicle. ●
The windows and moon roof (if equipped) are closed before the alarm is set. ●
No valuables or other personal items are left in the vehicle. ■
Triggering of the alarm
The alarm may be triggered in the following situations:
(Stopping the alarm deactivates the alarm system.)

Alarm-operated door lock
The door automatically locks when the following occurs: ●
When a person remaining in the vehicle unlocks the door and the alarm is activated. ●
While the alarm is activated, a person re maining in the vehicle unlocks the door.●
A person inside the vehicle opens a door or
hood, or unlocks the vehicle using an inside
lock button. ●
The 12-volt battery is recharged or replaced
when the vehicle is locked. (  P. 5 9 7 )

To ensure the system operates correctly
Do not modify or remove the system. If modified or removed, the proper operation of
the system cannot be guaranteed.

the release button and take the key out. The mechanical key can only be
inserted in one direction, as the key only
has grooves on one side. If the key can-
not be inserted in a lock cylinder, turn it
over and re-attempt to insert it.
After using the mechanical key, store it
in the electronic key. Carry the mechan-
ical key together with the electronic key.
If the electronic key battery is depleted
or the entry function does not operate
properly, you will need the mechanical
key. (  P. 5 9 2 )

Panic modeUsing the mechanical key
When is pressed for longer than about
1 second, an alarm will sound intermittently and
the vehicle lights will flash to deter any person
from trying to break into or damage your vehi-
cle.
To stop the alarm, press any button on the elec-
tronic key.

Electronic key battery depletion ●
The standard battery life is 1 to 2 years. (The card key battery life is about a year and a
half.) ●
If the battery becomes low, an alarm will sound in the cabin when the hybrid system
stops. ●
As the electronic key always receives ra dio waves, the battery will become depleted
even if the electronic key is not used. The following symptoms indicate that the elec-
tronic key battery may be depleted. Re place the battery when necessary. (  P. 5 3 2 )
• The smart access system with push-button start or the wireless remote control does
not operate.
• The detection area becomes smaller.
• The LED indicator on the key surface does not turn on. ●
To avoid serious deterioration, do not leave the electronic key within 3 ft. (1 m) of the
following electrical appliances that produce a magnetic field:
•TVs
• Personal computers
• Cellular phones, cordless phones and battery chargers
• Recharging cellular phones or cordless phones
• Induction cookers
• Table lamps ■
Replacing the battery

Confirmation of the registered key number
The number of keys already registered to the vehicle can be confirmed. Ask your Lexus
dealer for details. ■
If a wrong key is used
The key cylinder rotates freely to isolate inside mechanism.

Operation signals
Doors:
A buzzer sounds and the emergency flashers flash to indicate that the doors have been
locked/unlocked. (Locked: Once; Unlocked: Twice)
Windows:
A buzzer sounds to indicate that all windows are opening. ■
Security feature
If a door is not opened within approximately 60 seconds after the vehicle is unlocked, the
security feature automatically locks the vehicle again. ■
Welcome light illumination control
The side marker, parking, tail and license plat e lights automatically turn on at night when
the doors are unlocked using the entry functi on or wireless remote control if the light
switch is in the “AUTO” position. ■
When the door cannot be locked by the lock sensor on the surface of the door handle
■
Door lock buzzer
If an attempt to lock the doors is made when a door is not fully closed, a buzzer sounds
continuously for 5 seconds. Fully close the door to stop the buzzer, and lock the vehicle
once more. ■
Setting the alarm
Locking the doors will set the alarm system. (  P. 88)■
If the smart access system with push-butto n start or the wireless remote control does
not operate properly ●
Use the mechanical key to lock and unlock the doors. (  P. 5 9 2 )●
Replace the key battery with a new one if it is depleted. (  P. 5 3 2 )When the door can not be locked even if the
lock sensor on the surfac e of the door handle is
touched by a finger, touch the lock sensor with
the palm.
When gloves are being worn, remove the
gloves.

Switching the door unlock function
It is possible to set which doors the entry fu nction unlocks using the wireless remote con-
trol.
Turn the power switch off.
When the indicator light on the key surface is not on, press and hold , or
for approximately 5 seconds while pressing and holding .
The setting changes each time an operatio n is performed, as shown below. (When
changing the setting continuously, release the buttons, wait for at least 5 seconds, and
repeat step .)
For vehicles with an alarm: To prevent unin tended triggering of the alarm, unlock the
doors using the wireless remote control and open and close a door once after the set-
tings have been changed. (If a door is not opened within 60 seconds after is pressed,
the doors will be locked again and th e alarm will automatically be set.)
In a case that the alarm is triggered, immediately stop the alarm. (  P. 8 8 )Automatic door locking and unlocking systems Function Operation
Speed linked door locking function All doors are automatically locked when
vehicle speed is approximately 12 mph
(20 km/h) or higher.
Shift position linked door locking
function All doors are automatically locked when
shifting the shift lever out of P.

when shifting the shift lever to P.
Driver’s door linked door unlocking

Alarms and warning messages
A combination of exterior and interior alarms as well as warning messages shown on the
multi-information display are used to prevent theft of the vehicle and accidents resulting
from erroneous operation. Take appropriate measures in response to any warning mes-
sage on the multi-information display. (  P. 5 7 2 )
The following table describes circumstance s and correction procedures when only
alarms are sounded.
■
When “Smart Access System Malfunction See Owner’s Manual” will be displayed on
the multi-inform ation display
The system may be malfunctioning. Have the vehicle inspected by your Lexus dealer
immediately. ■
Battery-saving function
The battery-saving function will be activated in order to prevent the electronic key bat-
tery and the 12-volt battery from being discha rged while the vehicle is not in operation
for a long time. ●
In the following situations, the smart access system with push-button start may take
some time to unlock the doors.
• The electronic key has been left in an area of approximately 6 ft. (2 m) of the outside
of the vehicle for 10 minutes or longer.
• The smart access system with push-butto n start has not been used for 5 days or
longer. ●
If the smart access system with push-butto n start has not been used for 14 days or
longer, the doors cannot be unlocked at any doors except the driver’s door. In this case,
take hold of the driver’s door handle, or us e the wireless remote control or the mechan-
ical key, to unlock the doors. Alarm Situation Correction procedure
