MAINTENANCE42 In addition to scheduled maintenance,
your Lexus requires ongoing general
maintenance such as fluid checks and
visual inspections. The recommended
guidelines for inspections are listed
below. Please refer to the “Mainte-
nance” section of the Owner’s Manual
for a detailed description of inspection
procedures.
Every 30 Days At least once every 30 days, perform
these inspections:
• Check engine oil level using
the dipstick
• Visually check engine coolant
level on the see - t hrough reservoir
• Visually check brake fluid level
on the see-through reservoir
• Visually check condition
of battery
• Check level of windshield
washer fluid
• Check tire pressure
• Check tires for damage
and wear
• Check installation of driver’s
floor mat After a Car Wash • Check installation of driver’s
floor mat
After Off-Road Driving Whenever you drive off-road through
deep sand, mud or water, perform
these inspections daily:
• Check axle shaft boots
• Check ball joints and dust covers
• Check brake lines and hoses
• Check brake pads/rotors and
parking brake linings/drums
• Check differential oil
• Check engine air filter
• Check nuts and bolts on chassis
• Check steering linkage
and boots
• Check transfer case oil
(AWD models)
• Check transmission for
signs of leakage

MAINTENANCE
Scheduled Maintenance Log 71Exhaust Pipes and Mountings
Visually inspect the exhaust pipes,
muffler and hangers for cracks,
deterioration and damage. Start
the engine and listen carefully for
any exhaust leakage. Tighten connec -
tions and replace parts as necessary.
Fuel Lines and Connections, Fuel
Tank Band and Fuel Tank Vapor
Vent System Hoses
Visually inspect for corrosion,
damage, cracks, and loose or leaking
connections. Tighten connections
and replace parts as necessary.
Fuel Tank Cap Gasket
Visually inspect for cracks, deterio -
ra tion and damage and replace
if necessary.
Nuts and Bolts on Chassis
Check that tightness of the seat-
mounting bolts and front/rear
suspension-member retaining bolts
matches torque measurements
specified in the Repair Manual .
Rack-and-Pinion Assembly
Inspect the rack-and-pinion assembly
for signs of leakage, damage and
loose electrical connections. Tighten
connections and if you discover any
leakage or damage, have it repaired
immediately by a qualified technician. Road Test
While driving the vehicle, check for
proper operation of engine, transmis -
sion, brakes and steering. Also check
the parking brake, and check for
abnormal noise or vibration from
any part of the vehicle.
Spark Plugs
Replace at specified interval. Install
new plugs of the same type as origi -
nally equipped (see your Owner’s
Manual ). A qualified technician
should perform this operation.

f K20 h R11 plugs or equivalent.
Steering Linkage and Boots
With the vehicle stopped, check for
excessive freeplay in the steering
wheel. Inspect the linkage for bend -
ing and damage and the dust boots
for deterioration, cracks and damage.
Replace any damaged parts. A
qualified technician should perform
these operations.
