■Ventilation and air conditioning odors
●To let fresh air in, set the air conditioning system to the outside air mode.
●During use, various odors from inside and outside the vehicle may enter into and accu-
mulate in the air conditioning system. This may then cause odor to be emitted from the
vents.
●To reduce potential odors from occurring:
• It is recommended that the air conditioning system be set to outside air mode prior
to turning the vehicle off.
• The start timing of the blower may be dela yed for a short period of time immediately
after the air conditioning system is started in automatic mode.

WARNING
■To prevent the windshield from fogging up
●Do not use during cool air operation in extremely humid weather. The differ-
ence between the temperature of the outside air and that of the windshield can cause
the outer surface of the windshield to fog up, blocking your vision.
■To prevent burns
●Do not touch the rear view mirror surfaces when the outside rear view mirror defog-
gers are on.
●Do not touch the glass at lower part of the windshield or to the side of the front pillars
when the windshield wiper de-icer is on. (if equipped)
●Do not place anything on the instrument
panel which may cover th e air outlets. Other-
wise, air flow may be obstructed, preventing
the windshield defoggers from defogging.

■Humidity sensor
■To prevent 12-volt battery discharge
Do not leave the air conditioning system on longer than necessary when the hybrid sys-
tem is off.
In order to detect fog on the windshield, a sen-
sor which monitors the temperature of the
windshield, the surround humidity, etc. is
installed. ( P. 519)
Follow these points to avoid damaging the sen-
sor:
●Do not disassemble the sensor
●Do not spray the glass cleaner on the sensor
or subject it to strong impacts
●Do not stick anything on the sensor

WARNING
■When washing the vehicle
Do not apply water to the inside of the engine compartment. Doing so may cause the
electrical components, etc. to catch fire.
■When cleaning the windshield
●When the upper part of the windshield where the raindrop sensor is located is
touched by hand
●When a wet rag or similar is held close to the raindrop sensor
●If something bumps against the windshield
●If you directly touch the raindrop sensor bo dy or if something bumps into the raindrop
sensor
■Precautions regarding the exhaust pipe
Exhaust gasses cause the exhaust pipe to become quite hot.
When washing the vehicle, be careful not to touch the pipe until it has cooled suffi-
ciently, as touching a hot exhaust pipe can cause burns.
■Precautions regarding the rear bumper with Blind Spot Monitor
If the paint of the rear bumper is chipped or scratched, the system may malfunction. If
this occurs, consult your Lexus dealer.
Set the wiper switch to off.
If the switch is in “AUT O”, the wipers may oper-
ate unexpectedly in the following situations,
and may result in hands being caught or other
serious injuries and cause damage to the wiper
blades.

NOTICE
■Cleaning detergents
●Do not use the following types of detergent, as they may discolor the vehicle interior
or cause streaks or damage to painted surfaces:
• Non-seat portions: Organic substances su ch as benzene or gasoline, alkaline or
acidic solutions, dye, and bleach
• Seats: Alkaline or ac idic solutions, such as thinner, benzene, and alcohol
●Do not use polish wax or polis h cleaner. The instrument pane l’s or other interior part’s
painted surface may be damaged.
■Preventing damage to leather surfaces
Observe the following precautions to avoid damage to and deterioration of leather
surfaces:
●Remove any dust or dirt from leather surfaces immediately.
●Do not expose the vehicle to direct sunlight for extended periods of time. Park the
vehicle in the shade, especially during summer.
●Do not place items made of vinyl, plastic, or containing wax on the upholstery, as they
may stick to the leather su rface if the vehicle interior heats up significantly.
■Water on the floor
Do not wash the vehicle floor with water.
Vehicle systems such as the audio system ma y be damaged if water comes into contact
with electrical components such as the au dio system above or under the floor of the
vehicle. Water may also cause the body to rust.
■When cleaning the inside of the windshield
Do not allow glass cleaner to contact the lens. Also, do not touch the lens.

■Cleaning the inside of the rear window
●Do not use glass cleaner to clean the rear window, as this may cause damage to the
rear window defogger heater wires or antenna. Use a cloth dampened with luke-
warm water to gently wipe the window clean. Wipe th e window in strokes running
parallel to the heater wires or antenna.
●Be careful not to scratch or damage the heater wires or antenna.

Windshield wipers/
rear window wiper
•The wiper blades should no t show any signs of crack-
ing, splitting, wear, contamination or deformation.
• The wiper blades should clear the windshield/rear
window without streaking or skipping.
WARNING
■If the hybrid system is operating
Turn the hybrid system off and ensure that there is adequate ventilation before per-
forming maintenance checks.

If none of the washer do not work or the
“Windshield Washer Fluid Low”
appears on the multi-information dis-
play, the washer tank may be empty.
Add washer fluid.

WARNING
■When adding washer fluid
Do not add washer fluid when the hybrid system is hot or operating as washer fluid
contains alcohol and may catch fire if spilled on the engine, etc.
NOTICE
■Do not use any fluid other than washer fluid
Do not use soapy water or engine antifreeze instead of washer fluid.
Doing so may cause streaking on the vehicle's painted surfaces, as well as damaging
the pump leading to problems of the washer fluid not spraying.
■Diluting washer fluid
Dilute washer fluid with water as necessary.
Refer to the freezing temperatures listed on the label of the washer fluid bottle.

Change the rest position of the windshie ld wipers to the service position using
the wiper lever and then lift a windshield wiper. ( P. 270)
While pressing and holding the
wiper blade lock release button,
remove the wiper blade.
When performing this operation, make
sure to hold the hook portion of the
wiper arm securely.
While disengaging the cap lock,
using a tool such as a flathead
screwdriver if necessary, remove the
wiper insert.
Hold the cap on the end of the wiper
insert when removing the wiper insert.
(The cap is integrated into the wiper
insert.)
If using a screwdriver, make sure to wrap
its tip with tape to protect the wiper
blade.
Install a new wiper insert.
Make sure to push the wiper insert firmly until the cap lock is engaged.
After installation, check that th e cap lock is locked securely.
Install the wiper blade to the wiper arm.
Make sure to push the wiper blade until it is locked.
When performing this operation, make sure to hold the hook portion of the wiper arm
securely.
After installation, check that the wiper blade is locked securely.

After replacing the wiper inserts, place the windshield wipers on the wind-
shield and lower them to the retracted position. (P. 271)
Do not drive the vehicle with the windshield wipers lifted.
■Replacing the rear wiper insert
Have the rear wiper insert replaced by your Lexus dealer.
■Handling of the windshield wiper blades and inserts
Improper handling of the windshield wiper blades and inserts may cause them to be
damaged. If it is difficult to follow the wiper blade and insert replacement procedure pre-
cisely, contact your Lexus dealer.

■If “Forward Camera System Unavailable” or “Forward Camera System
Unavailable Clean Windshield” is displayed
The following systems may be suspended until the problem shown in the mes-
sage is resolved. (P. 296)
●PCS (Pre-Collision System)
●LKA (Lane-Keeping Assist)
●Dynamic radar cruise control with full-speed range
●Automatic High Beam
■If “Oil Maintenance Required Soon” is shown
Indicates that the engine oil is scheduled to be changed.
Check the engine oil, and change if necessary. After changing the engine oil,
the message should be reset. ( P. 600)
■If “Oil Maintenance Required” is shown
Indicates that the engine oil should be changed.
Check and change the engine oil, and o il filter by your Lexus dealer. After
changing the engine oil, the message should be reset. ( P. 600)
■If “Maintenance Required Soon” is displayed (U.S.A. only)
Indicates that all maintenance according to the driven distance on the mainte-
nance schedule
* should be performed soon.
Comes on approximately 4500 miles (7200 km) after the message has been
reset.
If necessary, perform maintenance. Plea se reset the message after the main-
tenance is performed. ( P. 588)
