Sometimes irregular tire wear can becorrected by rotating the tires.
USING SUMMER TIRES (If Equipped)
Summer tires provide superior performanceon wet and dry roads. Summer tires do nothave the Mud and Snow (M+S or M/S) tiretraction rating on the tire side wall. Sincesummer tires do not have the same tractionperformance as All-season or Snow tires, wedo not recommend using summer tires when
temperatures drop to approximately 45°F(7°C) or below (depending on tire wear andenvironmental conditions) or in snow and iceconditions. Like any tire, summer tireperformance is affected by tire wear andenvironmental conditions. If you must drivein those conditions, we recommend usingMud and Snow (M+S, M/S), All-season orSnow tires.
Always store your summer tires indoors attemperatures above 19°F (-7°C). The rubbercompounds used in these tires lose flexibilityand may develop surface cracks in the treadarea at temperatures below 19°F (-7°C). If thetires have been subjected to 19°F (-7°C) orless, warm them in a heated space to at least41°F (5°C) for at least 24 hours beforeinstalling them on a vehicle, or moving thevehicle with the tires installed, or checkingtire inflation. Do not place tires near heatersor heating devices used to warm the roomwhere the tires are stored. Do not apply heator blow heated air directly on the tires.Always inspect the tires after storage periodsand before use.
USING SNOW CHAINS
WARNING: Snow tires must be thesame size, load index, and speed rating asthose originally provided by Ford. Use of anytire or wheel not recommended by Ford canaffect the safety and performance of yourvehicle, which could result in an increasedrisk of loss of vehicle control, vehicle rollover,personal injury, and death. Additionally, theuse of non-recommended tires and wheelscould cause steering, suspension, axle,transfer case, or power transfer unit failure.It is also strongly advised to follow the Fordrecommended tire inflation pressure foundon the Safety Compliance Certification Label(affixed to either the door hinge pillar,door-latch post, or the door edge that meetsthe door-latch post, next to the driver’sseating position), or Tire Label which islocated on the B-Pillar or the edge of thedriver door. Failure to follow the tire pressurerecommendations can cause uneventreadwear patterns and adversely affect theway your vehicle handles.

When Inflating Your Tires
WARNING: Do not use the tirepressure displayed in the information displayas a tire pressure gauge. Failure to followthis instruction could result in personal injuryor death.
When putting air into your tires (such as at agas station or in your garage), the tirepressure monitoring system may not respondimmediately to the air added to your tires.
It may take up to two minutes of driving over20 mph (32 km/h) for the light to turn off afteryou have filled your tires to therecommended inflation pressure.
How Temperature Affects Your TirePressure
The tire pressure monitoring system monitorstire pressure in each pneumatic tire. Whiledriving in a normal manner, a typicalpassenger tire inflation pressure mayincrease about 2–4 psi (14–28 kPa) from acold start situation. If the vehicle is stationaryovernight with the outside temperature
significantly lower than the daytimetemperature, the tire pressure may decreaseabout 3 psi (21 kPa) for a drop of 30°F (17°C)in ambient temperature. This lower pressurevalue may be detected by the tire pressuremonitoring system as being significantlylower than the recommended inflationpressure and activate the system warninglight for low tire pressure. If the low tirepressure warning light is on, visually checkeach tire to verify that no tire is flat. If one ormore tires are flat, repair as necessary.Check the air pressure in the road tires. Ifany tire is under-inflated, carefully drive thevehicle to the nearest location where air canbe added to the tires. Inflate all the tires tothe recommended inflation pressure.
CHANGING A ROAD WHEEL
WARNING: If the tire pressure monitorsensor becomes damaged it may notfunction.
Note:You should only use tire sealants inroadside emergencies as they may causedamage to the tire pressure monitoringsystem sensor.
Note:The tire pressure monitoring systemindicator light illuminates when the sparetire is in use. To restore the full function ofthe monitoring system, all road wheelsequipped with tire pressure monitoringsensors must be mounted on the vehicle.
If you get a flat tire when driving, do notapply the brake heavily. Instead, graduallydecrease your speed. Hold the steeringwheel firmly and slowly move to a safe placeon the side of the road.
Have a flat serviced by an authorized dealerin order to prevent damage to the tirepressure monitoring system sensors. SeeTire Pressure Monitoring System (page 359).Replace the spare tire with a road tire assoon as possible. During repairing orreplacing of the flat tire, have an authorizeddealer inspect the tire pressure monitoringsystem sensor for damage.

The usage of a full-size dissimilar sparewheel and tire assembly can lead toimpairment of the following:
•Handling, stability and brakingperformance.
•Comfort and noise.
•Ground clearance and parking at curbs.
•Winter weather driving capability.
•Wet weather driving capability.
•All-wheel driving capability.
When driving with the full-size dissimilarspare wheel and tire assembly additionalcaution should be given to:
•Towing a trailer.
•Driving vehicles equipped with a camperbody.
•Driving vehicles with a load on the cargorack.
Drive cautiously when using a full-sizedissimilar spare wheel and tire assembly andseek service as soon as possible.
Tire Change Procedure (If Equipped)
WARNING: The jack supplied with thisvehicle is only intended for changing wheels.Do not use the vehicle jack other than whenyou are changing a wheel in an emergency.
WARNING: The jack should be usedon level firm ground wherever possible.
WARNING: Check that the vehicle jackis not damaged or deformed and the threadis lubricated and clean.
WARNING: Never place anythingbetween the vehicle jack and the ground.
WARNING: Never place anythingbetween the vehicle jack and your vehicle.
WARNING: Use only the specifiedjacking points. If you use other positions, youmay damage the body, steering, suspension,engine, braking system or the fuel lines.
WARNING: To help prevent yourvehicle from moving when changing a wheel,shift the transmission into park (P), set theparking brake and use an appropriate blockor wheel chock to secure the wheeldiagonally opposite to the wheel beingchanged. For example, when changing thefront left wheel, place an appropriate blockor wheel chock on the right rear wheel.
WARNING: When one of the frontwheels is off the ground, the transmissionalone will not prevent the vehicle frommoving or slipping off the jack, even if thetransmission is in park (P).
WARNING: Do not get under a vehiclethat is only supported by a vehicle jack.

If you are on a call, the call information is displayed on the information display.
If you are receiving a call, you can accept it by selecting OK on the right-hand steering wheel controls.
* Depending on your vehicle options, all of these choices may not display.
Use the OK and arrow buttons on the rightside of your steering wheel to scroll throughthe available modes. The available optionsdepend on the cluster screen.
The selection menu expands and differentoptions appear.
•Press the up and down arrows to scrollthrough the modes.
•Press the right arrow to enter the mode,use the left arrow to exit the mode.
•Press the up and down arrows to makeadjustments within the chosen mode.
•Press OK to confirm your selection.
Note:If your vehicle is not equipped withnavigation, compass appears in the displayinstead of navigation. If you press the rightarrow to go into the compass menu, you cansee the compass graphic. The compassdisplays the direction in which the vehicle istraveling, not true direction (for example, ifthe vehicle is traveling west, the middle ofthe compass graphic displays west; northdisplays to the left of west though its truedirection is to the right of west).
Using the Steering Wheel Controls
Depending on your vehicle and optionpackage, you can use different controls onyour steering wheel to interact with thetouchscreen system in different ways.
VOL: Control the volume of audio output.
Mute: Mute the audio output.
Voice: Press to start a voice session. Pressagain to stop the voice prompt andimmediately begin speaking. Press and holdto end a voice session.
SEEK NEXT:
•While in radio mode, press to seekbetween memory presets.
•While in USB, Bluetooth Audio or CDmode, press to seek between songs orpress and hold to fast seek.
SEEK PREVIOUS:
•While in radio mode, press to seekbetween memory presets.
•While in USB, Bluetooth Audio or CDmode, press to seek between songs orpress and hold to fast seek.
PHONE ACCEPT: Press to answer a call orswitch between calls.

PHONE REJECT: Press to end a call or rejectan incoming call.

Using Your Bezel Controls
Depending on your vehicle and optionpackage, you may also have these controlson your instrument panel:
•Power: Switch the audio system on andoff.
•VOL: Control the volume of playingaudio.
•Seek and Tune: Use as you normallywould in audio modes.
•Eject: Eject a CD from the audio system.
•SOURCE or MEDIA: Press repeatedly toadvance through available media modes.
•SOUND: Press to access the Soundmenu where you can adjust sound andother audio settings.
•1-6: Press and hold to store or press toselect an AM, FM or SIRIUS memorypreset. See Audio System (page 403).
•DISP: Switch the display on or off. Youcan also touch the screen to switch thedisplay back on.
•Temperature, fan and climate controlbuttons: Control the temperature, fanspeed or settings of the climate controlsystem. See Climate Control (page 146).
911 Assist
WARNING: Unless the 911 Assistsetting is set on before a crash, the systemwill not dial for help which could delayresponse time, potentially increasing the riskof serious injury or death after a crash.
WARNING: Do not wait for 911 Assistto make an emergency call if you can do ityourself. Dial emergency servicesimmediately to avoid delayed response timewhich could increase the risk of serious injuryor death after a crash. If you do not hear 911Assist within five seconds of the crash, thesystem or phone may be damaged ornon-functional.
WARNING: Always place your phonein a secure location in your vehicle so it doesnot become a projectile or get damaged ina crash. Failure to do so may cause seriousinjury to someone or damage the phonewhich could prevent 911 Assist from workingproperly.
Note:The SYNC 911 Assist feature must beset on before the incident.
Note:The SYNC 911 Assist feature onlyoperates in the U.S., Canada or in a territoryin which 911 is the emergency number.

Before making the call:
•SYNC provides a short window of time(about 10 seconds) to cancel the call. Ifyou fail to cancel the call, SYNC attemptsto dial 911.
•SYNC says the following, or a similarmessage: "SYNC will attempt to call 911,to cancel the call, press Cancel on yourscreen or press and hold the phonebutton on your steering wheel."
If you do not cancel the call, and SYNCmakes a successful call, a pre-recordedmessage plays for the 911 operator, and thenthe occupant(s) in your vehicle is able to talkwith the operator. Be prepared to provideyour name, phone number and locationimmediately, because not all 911 systems arecapable of receiving this informationelectronically.
911 Assist May Not Work If
•Your cellular phone or 911 Assisthardware sustains damage in a crash.
•The vehicle's battery or the SYNC systemhas no power.
•The phone(s) thrown from your vehicleare the ones paired and connected tothe system.
911 Assist Privacy Notice
When you switch on 911 Assist, it maydisclose to emergency services that yourvehicle has been in a crash involving thedeployment of an airbag or activation of thefuel pump shut-off. Certain versions orupdates to 911 Assist may also be capableof electronically or verbally disclosing to 911operators your vehicle location or otherdetails about your vehicle or crash to assist911 operators to provide the most appropriateemergency services. If you do not want todisclose this information, do not switch thefeature on.
Safety Information
WARNING: Driving while distractedcan result in loss of vehicle control, crashand injury. We strongly recommend that youuse extreme caution when using any devicethat may take your focus off the road. Yourprimary responsibility is the safe operationof your vehicle. We recommend against theuse of any hand-held device while drivingand encourage the use of voice-operatedsystems when possible. Make sure you areaware of all applicable local laws that mayaffect the use of electronic devices whiledriving.
•Do not attempt to service or repair thesystem. Have an authorized dealercheck your vehicle.
•Do not operate playing devices if thepower cords or cables are broken, splitor damaged. Place cords and cables outof the way, so they do not interfere withthe operation of pedals, seats,compartments or safe driving abilities.

If your vehicle does not have navigation, this space contains the compass.
The name of the connected phone appears on the screen. The status of the phonefeatures also appear. This includes signal strength, battery charge, 911 assist settingstate (On or Off ), text messaging and roaming.

This map displays your current location or current route in real time.Navigation1CWhen you have navigation active, you also see the next turn and the length of timeand distance to your destination.If your vehicle does not have navigation, this space contains the audio information.

USING VOICE RECOGNITION
The SYNC 3 system allows you to use voicecommands, to control features like audio andclimate controls. By using voice commands,you can keep your hands on the wheel andyour eyes on the road.
You can access each feature controlled bySYNC 3 through a variety of commands.
To activate the SYNC 3 voicecommands push the voice buttonon the steering wheel and wait forthe prompt.
___ is a dynamic listing, meaning that it canbe the name of anything, such as artist, thename of contact or number. The context andthe description of the command tell you whatto say for this dynamic option.
There are some commands that work forevery feature, these commands are:

If your phone has a voice assistant feature,you may see a button to access it in themenu. You can also press and hold the voicebutton on the steering wheel to use thisfeature. See Voice Control (page 86).
Making Calls
There are many ways to make calls from theSYNC 3 system, including using voicecommands. See Using Voice Recognition(page 430). You can use the touchscreen toplace calls as well.

To call a number in your contacts, select:

During a phone call, the contacts name andnumber display on the screen along with thecall duration.

•Battery.
•911 Assist (United States and CanadaOnly). See Settings (page 480).
