Introduction

On Board Diagnostics Data LinkConnector
WARNING
Do not connect wireless plug-indevices to the data link connector.Unauthorized third parties could gain accessto vehicle data and impair the performanceof safety related systems. Only allow repairfacilities that follow our service and repairinstructions to connect their equipment tothe data link connector.
Your vehicle has an OBD Data LinkConnector (DLC) that is used in conjunctionwith a diagnostic scan tool for vehiclediagnostics, repairs and reprogrammingservices. Installing an aftermarket device thatuses the DLC during normal driving forpurposes such as remote insurance companymonitoring, transmission of vehicle data toother devices or entities, or altering theperformance of the vehicle, may cause
interference with or even damage to vehiclesystems. We do not recommend or endorsethe use of aftermarket plug-in devices unlessapproved by Ford. The vehicle Warranty willnot cover damage caused by an aftermarketplug-in device.

WARNING
Driving while distracted can result inloss of vehicle control, crash and injury.We strongly recommend that you useextreme caution when using any device thatmay take your focus off the road. Yourprimary responsibility is the safe operationof your vehicle. We recommend against theuse of any hand-held device while drivingand encourage the use of voice-operatedsystems when possible. Make sure you areaware of all applicable local laws that mayaffect the use of electronic devices whiledriving.
Using mobile communications equipment isbecoming increasingly important in theconduct of business and personal affairs. However, you must not compromise yourown or others’ safety when using suchequipment. Mobile communications canenhance personal safety and security whenappropriately used, particularly in emergencysituations. Safety must be paramount whenusing mobile communications equipment toavoid negating these benefits. Mobilecommunication equipment includes, but isnot limited to, cellular phones, pagers,portable email devices, text messagingdevices and portable two-way radios.

GENERAL INFORMATION ON
RADIO FREQUENCIES
This device complies with Part 15 of the FCCRules and with Licence exempt RSSStandards of Industry Canada. Operation issubject to the following two conditions:
•This device may not cause harmfulinterference, and
•This device must accept any interferencereceived, including interference that maycause undesired operation.
WARNING
Changes or modifications notexpressively approved by the partyresponsible for compliance could void theuser's authority to operate the equipment.The term "IC:" before the radio certificationnumber only signifies that Industry Canadatechnical specifications were met.
The typical operating range for yourtransmitter is approximately 33 ft (10 m).Vehicles equipped with the remote startfeature have a greater range.
One of the following could cause a decreasein operating range:
•Weather conditions.
•Nearby radio towers.
•Structures around your vehicle.
•Other vehicles parked next to yourvehicle.
The radio frequency used by your remotecontrol can also be used by other radiotransmitters, for example amateur radios,medical equipment, wireless headphones,wireless remote controls, cell phones, batterychargers and alarm systems. If thefrequencies are jammed, you will not be ableto use your remote control. You can lock andunlock the doors with the key.
Note:Make sure to lock your vehicle beforeleaving it unattended.
Note:If you are in range, the remote controlwill operate if you press any buttonunintentionally.
Note:The remote control contains sensitiveelectrical components. Exposure to moistureor impact may cause permanent damage.
Intelligent Access
The system uses a radio frequency signal tocommunicate with your vehicle and authorizeyour vehicle to unlock when one of thefollowing conditions are met:
•You activate the front exterior doorhandle switch.
•You press the luggage compartmentbutton.
•You press a button on the transmitter.
If excessive radio frequency interference ispresent in the area or if the transmitterbattery is low, you may need to mechanicallyunlock your door. You can use themechanical key blade in your intelligentaccess key to open the driver door in thissituation. See Remote Control (page 58).

The intelligent access keys operate thepower locks and the remote start system. The key must be in your vehicle to use thepush button start.
Removable Key Blade
The intelligent access key also contains aremovable key blade that you can use tounlock your vehicle.
Type 1
Slide the release on the back of the remotecontrol and pivot the cover off to access thekey blade.

Type 2
Push the release button and pull the keyblade out.
Note: Your vehicle keys came with asecurity label that provides important keycut information. Keep the label in a safeplace for future reference.
Replacing the Battery
Note:Refer to local regulations whendisposing of transmitter batteries.
Note:Do not wipe off any grease on thebattery terminals or on the back surface ofthe circuit board.
Note: Replacing the battery does not erasethe programmed key from your vehicle. Thetransmitter operates normally after youreplace the battery.
A message will appear in the informationdisplay when the remote control battery islow. See General Information (page 118).
Type 1
The remote control uses two coin-typethree-volt lithium battery CR2032 orequivalent.
1. Slide the release on the back of theremote control and pivot the cover off.

2. Insert a coin into the slot and twist toseparate the housing.
3. Remove the batteries.
4. Install the new batteries with the + sidefacing each other.
Note:Make sure to replace the labelbetween the two batteries.
5. Reinstall the battery housing cover ontothe transmitter.
Type 2
The remote control uses one coin-typethree-volt lithium battery CR2032 orequivalent.

2. Twist a thin coin under the tab hiddenbehind the key blade head to removethe battery cover.
3. Insert a suitable tool, for example ascrewdriver, in the position shown andcarefully remove the battery.
4. Install new battery with the + facingupward.
5. Reinstall the battery housing cover ontothe transmitter and install the key blade.
Car Finder
Press the button twice within threeseconds. The horn sounds and thedirection indicators flash. Werecommend you use this method to locateyour vehicle, rather than using the panicalarm.
Sounding the Panic Alarm
Note:The panic alarm only operates whenthe ignition is off.
Press the button to sound thepanic alarm. Press the buttonagain or switch the ignition on todeactivate.
Remote Start
WARNING
To avoid exhaust fumes, do not useremote start if your vehicle is parkedindoors or in areas that are not wellventilated.

Note:Do not use remote start if your fuellevel is low.
The remote start button is on thetransmitter.
This feature allows you to start your vehiclefrom outside the vehicle. The transmitter hasan extended operating range.
Vehicles with automatic climate control canbe configured to operate when the vehicleis remote started. See Automatic ClimateControl (page 145).
Many states and provinces have restrictionsfor the use of remote start. Check your localand state or provincial laws for specificrequirements regarding remote startsystems.
The remote start system does not work if:
•The ignition is on.
•The alarm system is triggered.
•You switch off the feature in theinformation display. See GeneralInformation (page 118).
•The hood is open.
•The transmission is not in park (P).
•The vehicle battery voltage is too low.
•The service engine soon light is on.
Remote Starting Your Vehicle
Note: You must press each button withinthree seconds of each other. If you do notfollow this sequence, your vehicle does notstart remotely, the direction indicators donot flash twice and the horn does not sound.
The tag with your transmitter details thestarting procedure.
To remote start your vehicle:
1. Press the lock button.
2.Press the remote start button twice. Theexterior lamps flash twice.
The horn sounds if the system fails to start.See General Information (page 118).
The power windows do not work duringremote starting and the radio does not turnon automatically.
The parking lamps remain on and the vehiclewill run for 5, 10, or 15 minutes, dependingon the setting. See General Information(page 118).
Extending the Vehicle Run Time
To extend the engine running time durationof your vehicle during remote start, repeatsteps 1 and 2 while the engine is running. Ifyou programmed the duration to last 10minutes, the second 10 minutes will beginafter what is left of the first activation time. For example, if your vehicle had beenrunning from the first remote start for 5minutes, your vehicle continues to run nowfor a total of 20 minutes. You can extendthe remote start up to a maximum of 35minutes.
Wait at least five seconds before remotestarting after the engine stops running.
