Make sure tires are at the proper pressure. See Inflating your tiresin this chapter. After inflating your tires to the manufacturer’srecommended pressure as shown on the Tire Label (located onthe edge of driver’s door or the B-Pillar), the vehicle must be drivenfor at least two minutes over 20 mph (32 km/h) before the lightturns off.

When Inflating Your Tires
WARNING: Do not use the tirepressure displayed in the information displayas a tire pressure gauge. Failure to followthis instruction could result in personal injuryor death.
When putting air into your tires (such as at agas station or in your garage), the tirepressure monitoring system may not respondimmediately to the air added to your tires.
It may take up to two minutes of driving over20 mph (32 km/h) for the light to turn off afteryou have filled your tires to therecommended inflation pressure.
How Temperature Affects Your TirePressure
The tire pressure monitoring system monitorstire pressure in each pneumatic tire. Whiledriving in a normal manner, a typicalpassenger tire inflation pressure mayincrease about 2–4 psi (14–28 kPa) from acold start situation. If the vehicle is stationaryovernight with the outside temperature
significantly lower than the daytimetemperature, the tire pressure may decreaseabout 3 psi (21 kPa) for a drop of 30°F (17°C)in ambient temperature. This lower pressurevalue may be detected by the tire pressuremonitoring system as being significantlylower than the recommended inflationpressure and activate the system warninglight for low tire pressure. If the low tirepressure warning light is on, visually checkeach tire to verify that no tire is flat. If one ormore tires are flat, repair as necessary.Check the air pressure in the road tires. Ifany tire is under-inflated, carefully drive thevehicle to the nearest location where air canbe added to the tires. Inflate all the tires tothe recommended inflation pressure.
CHANGING A ROAD WHEEL (If
Equipped)
WARNING: If the tire pressure monitorsensor becomes damaged it may notfunction.
Note:The tire pressure monitoring systemindicator light illuminates when the sparetire is in use. To restore the full function ofthe monitoring system, all road wheelsequipped with tire pressure monitoringsensors must be mounted on the vehicle.
Note:You should only use tire sealants inroadside emergencies as they may causedamage to the tire pressure monitoringsystem sensor.
If you get a flat tire when driving, do notapply the brake heavily. Instead, graduallydecrease your speed. Hold the steeringwheel firmly and slowly move to a safe placeon the side of the road.
Have a flat serviced by an authorized dealerin order to prevent damage to the tirepressure monitoring system sensors. SeeTire Pressure Monitoring System (page 352).Replace the spare tire with a road tire assoon as possible. During repairing orreplacing of the flat tire, have an authorizeddealer inspect the tire pressure monitoringsystem sensor for damage.

WARNING: To help prevent yourvehicle from moving when changing a wheel,shift the transmission into park (P), set theparking brake and use an appropriate blockor wheel chock to secure the wheeldiagonally opposite to the wheel beingchanged. For example, when changing thefront left wheel, place an appropriate blockor wheel chock on the right rear wheel.
WARNING: Do not work on yourvehicle when the jack is the only support. Ifthe vehicle slips off the jack, you or someoneelse could be seriously injured.
WARNING: Do not attempt to changea tire on the side of the vehicle close tomoving traffic. Pull far enough off the roadto avoid the danger of being hit whenoperating the jack or changing the wheel.
WARNING: Always use the jackprovided as original equipment with yourvehicle. If using a jack other than the oneprovided, make sure the jack capacity isadequate for the vehicle weight, includingany vehicle cargo or modifications. If you areunsure if the jack capacity is adequate,contact the authorized dealer.
Note:Passengers should not remain in yourvehicle when the vehicle is being jacked.
1. Park on a level surface, set the parkingbrake and activate the hazard flashers.
2. Place the transmission in park (P) andturn the engine off. For vehicles with amanual transmission, place thetransmission in reverse (R) after theengine is turned off.
3.Block both the front and rear of the wheeldiagonally opposite the flat tire. Forexample, if the left front tire is flat, blockthe right rear wheel.
4. Remove the carpeted wheel cover.
5. Remove the spare tire bolt securing thespare tire by turning it counterclockwise.
6.Remove the spare tire from the spare tirecompartment.

12.Place the jack at the jacking point nextto the tire you are changing. Turn thejack handle clockwise until the wheelis completely off the ground.
13. Remove the lug nuts with the lugwrench.
14.Replace the flat tire with the spare tire,making sure the valve stem is facingoutward. Reinstall the lug nuts until thewheel is snug against the hub. Do notfully tighten the lug nuts until the wheelhas been lowered. If you are using thetemporary tire, the lug nut washers donot appear to be flush with the rim. Thisis normal only when using thetemporary spare tire.
15. Lower the wheel by turning the jackhandle counterclockwise.
16. Remove the jack and fully tighten thelug nuts in the order shown. SeeTechnical Specifications (page 364).

17.To store the folded wrench on the jack,engage the bracket of the jack base onthe wrench feature as shown. Swingthe wrench upward and adjust theheight of the jack until the pin engagesthe hole. Tighten the hex nut clockwiseby hand until secure.
18. Put the flat tire, jack and lug wrenchaway. Make sure the jack is fastenedsecurely before you drive.
19. Unblock the wheel.

Stowing the Flat Tire Without theRetainer Strap
You can temporarily stow the full-size roadwheel in the spare tire compartment.
1.Lift the carpeted wheel cover at an angleto access the spare tire compartment.
2.Place the wheel in the spare tire well withthe valve stem facing down.
3.Install the shorter jack retainer bolt to thejack bolt-down bracket through thecentre of the wheel. Finally, wind thewheel retainer down to secure the wheelin place.
4. Place the jack and tools back into thespare tire compartment.
5. Replace the carpeted wheel cover.
Stowing the Flat Tire Using theRetainer Strap (If Equipped)
You can temporarily stow the full-size roadwheel in the spare tire compartment.
1. Find the flat tire retainer strap tuckedinside the jack channel.
2.Locate the jack bolt-down bracket. Pushthe retainer strap through the jackbolt-down bracket.
3.Put the jack and lug wrench away. Makesure the jack is fastened so it does notrattle when you drive.
4.Stow the flat tire on the floor in the cargoarea.
5. Weave the retainer strap through thewheel openings.

6. Secure the flat tire by tying a flat knot.

WARNING: When you install a wheel, always remove any corrosion, dirt or foreign materials present on the mounting surfaces of thewheel or the surface of the wheel hub, brake drum or brake disc that contacts the wheel. Make sure to secure any fasteners that attach therotor to the hub so they do not interfere with the mounting surfaces of the wheel. Installing wheels without correct metal-to-metal contact atthe wheel mounting surfaces can cause the wheel nuts to loosen and the wheel to come off while your vehicle is in motion, resulting in lossof vehicle control, personal injury or death.
