Mirrors
Rearview Mirror
WARNING
Do not stack cargo or objects higher
than the seatbacks: Cargo stacked higher than the
seatbacks is dangerous. It can block
your view in the rearview mirror, which
might cause you to hit another car
when changing lanes.
Rearview mirror adjustment
Before driving, adjust the rearview mirror
to center on the scene through the rear
window.
NOTE
For the manual day/night mirror, perform
the adjustment with the day/night lever in
the day position.
Reducing glare from headlights
Manual day/night mirror
Push the day/night lever forward for day
driving. Pull it back to reduce glare of
headlights from vehicles at the rear.

Auto-dimming mirror
The auto-dimming mirror automatically
reduces glare of headlights from vehicles
at the rear when the ignition is switched
ON.
(With Homelink wireless control
system)
Press the OFF button (
) to cancel the
automatic dimming function. The indicator

To reactivate the automatic dimming
function, press the ON button (
). The
indicator light will illuminate.

Instrument Cluster and Display
Dashboard Illumination
Rotate the knob to adjust the brightness
of the instrument cluster and other
illuminations in the dashboard.
NOTE
 y The brightness of dashboard
illuminations can be adjusted when
the headlights and Parking lights are
turned on.
 y When the dashboard illumination
brightness cannot be adjusted any
more, a beep sound will be heard.

Canceling the illumination dimmer
When the headlight switch is in the
or
position, the illumination of the
instrument cluster dims.
When driving on snowy or foggy roads,
or in other situations when the instrument
cluster's visibility is reduced due to glare
from surrounding brightness, cancel the
illumination dimmer and increase the
illumination intensity.
To cancel the illumination dimmer, rotate
the knob clockwise fully. You will hear a
beep sound and the illumination dimmer
will be canceled.
NOTE
 y  This symbol () indicates the knob to
adjust the brightness of the dashboard
illumination.
 y  If the dashboard illumination knob is
kept at the illumination dimmer cancel
position, the instrument cluster will not
dim when the headlight switch is turned
to the
or position again. Rotate
the dashboard illumination knob
counterclockwise to activate the
illumination dimmer.
Outside Temperature Display *
When the ignition is switched ON, the
outside temperature is displayed.
NOTE
 y  Under the following conditions, the
outside temperature display may differ
from the actual outside temperature
depending on the surroundings and
vehicle conditions:
 y Signifi cantly cold or hot
temperatures.
 y Sudden changes in outside
temperature.
 y The vehicle is parked. y The vehicle is driven at low speeds.
The outside temperature unit can be
switched between Celsius and Fahrenheit
using the following procedure.

Headlights
Turn the headlight switch to turn the headlights, other exterior lights and dashboard
illumination on or off.
When the lights are turned on, the lights-on indicator light in the inst\
rument cluster turns on.
NOTE
 y If the light switch is left on, the lights will automatically switch off\
approximately 30
seconds after switching the ignition off.
 The time setting can be changed. Refer to Personalization Features on page 9-12 . y To prevent discharging the battery, do not leave the lights on while the engine is off
unless safety requires them.

Auto-light control
When the headlight switch is in the
position and the ignition is switched ON, the light
sensor senses the surrounding lightness or darkness and automatically tu\

Xenon fusion headlight bulbs *
The low-beam bulbs of the headlights have xenon fusion bulbs that produc\
e a bright white
beam over a wide area.
WARNING
Do not replace the xenon fusion bulbs yourself: Replacing the xenon fusion bulbs yourself is dangerous, because the xenon fusion
bulbs require high voltage. You could receive an electric shock if the bulbs are handled
incorrectly. Consult an Authorized Mazda Dealer when replacement is necessary.
NOTE
If the headlights fl icker or the brightness weakens, the bulb-life may be depleted and a
replacement is necessary. Consult an Authorized Mazda Dealer.

Headlight High-Low Beam
Press the lever forward to turn on the high
beams.
Pull the lever back to its original position
for the low beams.
High beam
Low beam
The headlight high-beam indicator light
in the instrument cluster illuminates while
the high beams are turned on.
Flashing the Headlights
T o fl ash the headlights, pull the lever fully
towards you (the headlight switch does not
need to be on).

The headlight high-beam indicator light
in the instrument cluster illuminates
simultaneously. The lever will return to the
normal position when released.
Headlight Leveling *
The number of passengers and weight of
cargo in the luggage compartment change
the angle of the headlights.
Auto type
The angle of the headlights will be
automatically adjusted when turning on
the headlights.
The warning/indicator light turns on when
the system has a malfunction.

Adaptive Front Lighting System (AFS)*
The adaptive front lighting system (AFS)
automatically adjusts the headlight beams
to the left or right in conjunction with the
operation of the steering wheel after the
headlights have been turned on.
AFS OFF Indicator Light
When illuminated
This indicator light illuminates briefl y
when the ignition is switched ON, and
then turns off. Pressing the AFS OFF
switch cancels the AFS function and
illuminates the indicator light.
When fl ashing
The indicator light fl ashes continuously if
the system is malfunctioning. Consult an
Authorized Mazda Dealer.
NOTE
 y  Even if the AFS is not operating due to
some malfunction, the normal headlight
function is still operable.
 y If there is a malfunction with the
headlight auto-leveling function, the
indicator light fl ashes.

High Beam Control System (HBC) *
The High Beam Control System (HBC) determines the conditions in front \
of the vehicle
using the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC) while driving in darkness to au\
tomatically switch
the headlights between high and low beams.
Refer to Warning/Indicator Lights on page 4-21 .
While driving the vehicle at a speed of about 30 km/h (18 mph), the he\
adlights are switched
to high beams when there are no vehicles in front of your vehicle or app\
roaching in the
opposite direction.
The system switches the headlights to low beams when one of the followin\
g occurs:
 y The system detects a vehicle or the headlights/lights of a vehicle appro\
aching in the
opposite direction.
 y  The vehicle is driven on roads lined with streetlamps or on roads in wel\
l-lit cities and
towns.
 y  The vehicle is driven at less than about 20 km/h (12 mph).
Forward Sensing
Camera (FSC)
The recognition distance of the
Forward Sensing Camera (FSC)
varies according to the
surrounding conditions.
The warning light fl
ashes when the system has a malfunction.
Refer to Warning Lights on page 4-22 .
CAUTION
Do not adjust the vehicle height, modify the headlight units, or remove the camera,
otherwise the system will not operate normally.

NOTE
The timing in which the system switches the headlights changes under the\
following
conditions. If the system does not switch the headlights appropriately, manually switch
between high and low beams according to the visibility as well as road and traffi c
conditions.
 y When there are sources of light in the area such as street lamps, illuminated signboards,
and traffi c signals.
 y When there are refl ective objects in the surrounding area such as refl ective plates and
signs.
 y When visibility is reduced under rain, snow and foggy conditions. y When driving on roads with sharp curves or hilly terrain. y When the headlights/rear lamps of vehicles in front of you or in the opposite lane are dim
or not illuminated.
 y When there is suffi cient darkness such as at dawn or dusk. y When the luggage compartment is loaded with heavy objects or the rear passenger seats
are occupied.
 y When visibility is reduced due to a vehicle in front of you spraying water from its tires
onto your windshield.

To Operate the System
The High Beam Control System (HBC)
operates to switch the headlights
automatically between high and low
beams after the ignition is switched ON
and the headlight switch is in the AUTO
and high beam position. At the same time,
the High Beam Control System (HBC)
indicator light (green) in the instrument
cluster illuminates.
The High Beam Control System (HBC)
determines that it is dark based on the
brightness of the surrounding area.
NOTE
 y When the vehicle speed is 30 km/h
(18 mph) or higher, the headlights
automatically switch to high beams
when there are no vehicles in front of
your vehicle or approaching in the
opposite direction.
 When the vehicle speed is less than about 20 km/h (12 mph), the High
Beam Control System (HBC) switches
the headlights to low beams.
 y The low beams may not switch to high
beams when cornering.
 y Operation of the High Beam Control
System (HBC) function can be disabled.
