Procedure
After replacing the engine oil, it is
recommended to have a repair shop such
as an Authorized Mazda Dealer perform
the initialization (engin
e oil data resetting)
of the recorded value. If the value
recorded by the computer is not initialized,
the wrench indicator light may not turn off
or it may turn on earlier than normal.
Refer to Maintenance Monitor on page
6-16.
▼ Inspecting Engine Oil Level
1. Be sure the vehicle is on a level
surface.
2. Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature.
3. Turn it off and wait at least 5 minutes for the oil to retur n to the oil pan.
4. Pull out the dipstic k, wipe it clean, and
reinsert it fully.

▼Battery Maintenance
To get the best service from a battery:
Keep it securely mounted.
Keep the top clean and dry.
Keep terminals and connections clean,
tight, and coated with
petroleum jelly or
terminal grease.
Rinse off spilled electrolyte immediately
with a solution of water and baking
soda.
If the vehicle will not be used for an
extended time, disconnect the battery
cables and charge the battery every six
weeks.

Contact an Authorized Mazda Dealer for a
battery replacement purchase.
Key Battery Replacement
If the buttons on the transmitter are
inoperable and the operation indicator
light does not flash, the battery may be
dead.
Replace with a new b
attery before the
transmitter becomes unusable.
CAUTION
 Make sure the battery is installed
correctly. Battery leakage could occur if it
is not installed correctly.
 When replacing the battery, be careful
not to touch any of the internal circuitry
and electrical terminals, bend the
electrical terminals, or get dirt in the
transmitter as the transmitter could be
damaged.
 There is the danger of explosion if the
battery is not correctly replaced.
 Dispose of used batteries according to
the following instructions.
 Insulate the plus and minus terminals
of the battery using cellophane or
equivalent tape.
 Never disassemble.
 Never throw the battery into fire or
water.
 Never deform or crush.
 Replace only with the same type battery
(CR2025 or equivalent).

Jump-Starting
Jump-starting is dangerous if done incorrectly. So follow the procedure carefully. If you feel
unsure about jump-starting, we strongly recommend that you have a competent service
technician do the work.
WA R N I N G
Follow These Precautions Carefully:
To ensure safe and correct handling of the ba ttery, read the following precautions carefully
before using the battery or inspecting it.
Do not allow the positive () terminal to contact any other metal object that could
cause sparks:
Flames and sparks near open battery cells are dangerous. Hydrogen gas, produced during
normal battery operation, could ignite and caus e the battery to explode. An exploding battery
can cause serious burns and injuries. When working near a battery, do not allow metal tools
to contact the positive (
) or negative () terminal of the battery.
Keep all flames, including cigarettes, and sparks away from open battery cells:
Flames and sparks near open battery cells are dangerous. Hydrogen gas, produced during
normal battery operation, could ignite and caus e the battery to explode. An exploding battery
can cause serious burns and injuries.
Do not jump-start a frozen battery or one with a low fluid level:
Jump-starting a frozen battery or one with a lo w fluid level is dangerous. It may rupture or
explode, causing serious injury.
Connect the negative cable to a good ground point away from the battery:
Connecting the end of the second jumper cable to the negative (
) terminal of the discharged
battery is dangerous.
A spark could cause the gas around the battery to explode and injure someone.
Route the jumper cables away from parts that will be moving:
Connecting a jumper cable near or to moving pa rts (cooling fans, belts) is dangerous. The
cable could get caught when the engine starts and cause serious injury.

Towing Description
We recommend that towing be done only
by an Authorized Mazda Dealer or a
commercial tow-truck service.

Proper lifting and towing are necessary to
prevent damage to the vehicle.
Government and local laws must be
followed.

A towed vehicle usually should have its
drive wheels (front wheels) off the ground.
If excessive damage or other conditions
prevent this, use wheel dollies.

When towing with the rear wheels on the
ground, release the parking brake.
Refer to Parking Brake on page 4-61.
Refer to Electric Parking Brake (EPB) on
page 4-61.
CAUTION
 Do not tow the vehicle pointed backward
with driving wheels on the ground. This
may cause internal damage to the
transaxle.
Do not tow with sling-type equipment.
This could damage your vehicle. Use
wheel-lift or flatbed equipment.

6. You are required to use BBB AUTO LINE before asserting in court any rights or
remedies conferred by California Civil Code Section 1793.22. Yo u are also required to
use BBB AUTO LINE before exercising rights or seeking remedies created by Title I of
the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, 15 U.S.C. sec. 2301 et seq. If you choose to seek
redress by pursuing rights and remedies not created by Californ ia Civil Code Section

7. California Civil Code Section 1793.2 (d) requires that, if Ma zda or its representative is
unable to repair a new motor vehicle to conform to the vehicle' s applicable express
warranty after a reasonable number of attempts, Mazda may be re quired to replace or
repurchase the vehicle. Califor nia Civil Code Section 1793.22 ( b) creates a presumption
that Mazda has had a reasonable number of attempts to conform t he vehicle to its
applicable express warranties if, within 18 months from deliver y to the buyer or 18,000
miles on the vehicle's odometer, whichever occurs first, one or more of the following
occurs:
The same nonconformity [a failure to conform to the written warranty that
substantially impairs the use, value or safety of the vehicle] results in a condition that
is likely to cause death or serious bodily injury if the vehicl e is driven AND the
nonconformity has been subject to repair two or more times by M azda or its agents
AND the buyer or lessee has directly notified Mazda of the need fo r the repair of the
nonconformity; OR
The same nonconformity has been subject to repair 4 or more times by Mazda or its
agents AND the buyer has notified Mazda of the need for the repair of the
nonconformity; OR
The vehicle is out of service by reason of repair of nonconformities by Mazda or its
agents for a cumulative total of more than 30 calendar days aft er delivery of the
vehicle to the buyer.
