N O T E
y The Mazda Radar Cruise Control (MRCC) system operates when all of the following
conditions are met.
y The vehicle speed is about 30 km/h (19 mph) to 145 km/h (90 mph).
y The Mazda Radar Cruise Control (MRCC) system is turned on.
y The parking brake is not applied.
y The Smart Brake Support (SBS) is not malfunctioning.
y The Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) is operating normally.
y The selector lever is in the drive (D) position or manual (M) position (manual mode).
y All doors are closed.
y The driver's seat belt is fastened.
y In the following cases, the warnings may not activate even if your vehicle starts closing in
on the vehicle ahead.
y You are driving at the same speed as the vehicle ahead.
y Directly after the Mazda Radar Cruise Control (MRCC) system has been set.
y When the accelerator pedal is depressed or directly after the accelerator pedal is
released.
y Another vehicle cuts into the driving lane.
y The following are not detected as physical objects.
y Vehicles approaching in the opposite direction
y Pedestrians
y Stationary objects (stopped vehicles, obstructions)
y If a vehicle ahead is traveling at an extremely low speed, the system may not detect it
correctly.
y During headway control travel, do not set the system on two-wheeled vehicles such as
motorcycles and bicycles.
y Do not use the Mazda Radar Cruise Control (MRCC) system under conditions in which
the close proximity warnings are frequently activated.
y During headway control travel, the system accelerates and decelerates your vehicle in
conjunction with the speed of the vehicle ahead. However, if it is necessary to accelerate
for a lane change or if the vehicle ahead brakes suddenly causing you to close in on the
vehicle rapidly, accelerate using the accelerator pedal or decelerate using the brake
pedal depending on the conditions.
y While the Mazda Radar Cruise Control (MRCC) system is in use, it does not cancel
even if the selector lever is operated and any intended engine braking will not occur. If
deceleration is required, lower the vehicle speed setting or depress the brake pedal.
y The brake lights are illuminated while the Mazda Radar Cruise Control (MRCC)
automatic braking is operating.

y When white (yellow) lane lines are not detected, the Lane-keep Assist System (LAS) &
Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS) does not operate.
y Under the following conditions, the Lane-keep Assist System (LAS) & Lane Departure
Warning System (LDWS) may not be able to detect white (yellow) lane lines correctly and
it may not operate normally.
y If an object placed on the dashboard is re À ected in the windshield and picked up by the
camera.
y Heavy luggage is loaded in the luggage compartment or on the rear seat and the
vehicle is tilted.
y The tire pressures are not adjusted to the speci ¿ ed pressure.
y Tires other than conventional tires are equipped.
y When the vehicle is driven on the guiding branch to or from the rest area or tollgate of
a highway.
y The white (yellow) lane lines are less visible because of dirt or fading/patchiness.
y A vehicle in front of your vehicle is running near a white (yellow) lane line making it
less visible.
y A white (yellow) lane line is less visible because of bad weather (rain, fog, or snow).
y The vehicle is driven on a temporary lane or section with a closed lane resulting
from construction where there may be multiple white (yellow) lane lines or they are
interrupted.
y A misleading line is picked up on the road such as a temporary line for construction,
or because of shade, lingering snow, or grooves ¿ lled with water.
y The surrounding brightness suddenly changes such as when entering or exiting a
tunnel.
y The illumination of the headlights is weakened because of dirt or the optical axis is
deviated.
y The windshield is dirty or foggy.
y The windshield, camera is fogged (water droplets).
y Back-light is re À ected off the road surface.
y The road surface is wet and shiny after rain, or there are puddles on the road.
y The shade of a guardrail parallel to a white (yellow) lane line is cast on the road.
y The width of the driving lane is narrow (less than about 2.5 m (98 in)) or wide (more
than about 4.5 m (178 in))
y Driving on roads with tight curves.
y The road is excessively uneven.
y The vehicle is shaken after hitting a road bump.
y There are two or more adjacent white (yellow) lane lines.
y There are various road markings or lane markings of various shapes near an
intersection.

System Operation
Make sure that the Lane-keep Assist
System (LAS) & Lane Departure Warning
System (LDWS) OFF switch indicator
light is turned off. When the Lane-keep
Assist System (LAS) & Lane Departure
Warning System (LDWS) OFF switch
indicator light is turned on, press the
switch and make sure that the switch
indicator light turns off.
Indicator light
The Lane-keep Assist System (LAS) &
Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS)
indication (white) is displayed in the
multi-information display, and the system
goes on stand-by.
(White) Drive the vehicle in the center of the
vehicle lane while the system is on
standby. When all of the following
conditions are met, the Lane-keep Assist
System (LAS) & Lane Departure Warning
System (LDWS) indication (green) is
displayed in the multi-information display,
and the system becomes operational.
(Green)
y The engine is running.
y The vehicle speed is about 60 km/h (37
mph) or faster.
y The system detects white (yellow) lane
lines on both the right and left sides.
y The driver is operating the steering
wheel.
y The driving lane is neither narrow nor
wide.
The Lane-keep Assist System (LAS) &
Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS)
goes on stand-by status in the following
cases:
y The system cannot detect white (yellow)
lane lines.
y The vehicle speed is less than about 60
km/h (37 mph).
y The ABS/TCS/DSC is operating.
y The TCS is turned off.
(If the TCS is turned off while the
system is operational, a warning beep is
heard and the system goes on standby.)
y The vehicle is making a sharp curve.
y The vehicle is making a curve at an
inadequate speed.
y The driver takes his or her hands off the
steering wheel (not holding the steering
wheel).
y Sudden acceleration/deceleration.
y Driving on winding roads.

y The Lane-keep Assist System (LAS)
& Lane Departure Warning System
(LDWS) does not operate until the
system detects white (yellow) lane lines
on either the left or right.
y When the system detects a white
(yellow) lane line on one side only, the
system will not activate warnings for the
lane line on the side that is not being
detected. The warning is only for a
lane deviation on the side that is being
detected.
y If the driver takes his or her hands off
the steering wheel (not holding the
steering wheel), the warning sound is
activated and an alert is indicated in the
multi-information display.
If the steering wheel is held lightly,
or depending on the road conditions,
the system may detect that you have
released the steering wheel (not holding
the steering wheel) even if you are
holding it, and display a message in the
multi-information display.
y The timing at which the lane departure
warning is activated and the steering
wheel operation assist is performed
varies.
y The following settings for the Lane-
keep Assist System (LAS) & Lane
Departure Warning System (LDWS) can
be changed. Refer to Personalization
Features on page 9-11 .
y Steering operation assist
operational/non-operational
y Cancel sensitivity (likelihood of
steering assist)
Vehicle lane line display
When the Lane-keep Assist System
(LAS) & Lane Departure Warning System
(LDWS) becomes operational while
on standby, the vehicle lane lines are
displayed in the multi-information display
and the active driving display. In the
vehicle lane lines display indicating the
operation status, the color of the vehicle
lane lines being detected changes to white.

Steering operation assist OFF (non-
operational)
The steering operation assist for the
Lane-keep Assist System (LAS) & Lane
Departure Warning System (LDWS) can
be changed to non-operational (OFF).
Refer to Setting Change (Personalization
Features) on page 9-11 .
When the steering operation assist has
been changed to non-operational (OFF),
the operation conditions and the display
of the Lane-keep Assist System (LAS) &
Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS)
differ. Operate the system as follows:

Make sure that the Lane-keep Assist
System (LAS) & Lane Departure Warning
System (LDWS) OFF switch indicator
light is turned off. When the Lane-keep
Assist System (LAS) & Lane Departure
Warning System (LDWS) OFF switch
indicator light turns on, press the switch
and make sure that the switch indicator
light turns off.
Indicator light
Drive the vehicle in the center of the
driving lane while the Lane-keep Assist
System (LAS) & Lane Departure Warning
System (LDWS) OFF switch indicator
light is turned off.
The system becomes operational when all
of the following conditions are met.
y The system detects white (yellow) lane
lines on both the right and left sides.
y The vehicle speed is about 60 km/h (37
mph) or faster.
y The vehicle is driven on a straight road
or road with gentle curves.
y The engine is running.
The Lane-keep Assist System (LAS) &
Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS)
goes on stand-by status in the following
cases:
y The system cannot detect white (yellow)
lane lines.
y The vehicle speed is less than about 60
km/h (37 mph).
y The vehicle is making a sharp curve.
y The vehicle is making a curve at an
inappropriate speed.

(Auto cancel of warnings)
When the following operations are
performed, the Lane-keep Assist System
(LAS) & Lane Departure Warning System
(LDWS) determines that the driver intends
to make a lane change and the system
operation is canceled automatically. The
Lane-keep Assist System (LAS) & Lane
Departure Warning System (LDWS) is
resumes automatically after the operation.
y The steering wheel is operated abruptly.
y The brake pedal is depressed.
y The accelerator pedal is depressed.
(To cancel the automatic sensitivity
cancel function, deselect “Warning
sensitivity” in the personalization
features setting.)
y The turn signal lever is operated.
y The vehicle crosses a lane line.
System Canceling
When the Lane-keep Assist System
(LAS) & Lane Departure Warning System
(LDWS) is turned off, press the Lane-keep
Assist System (LAS) & Lane Departure
Warning System (LDWS) OFF switch.
The Lane-keep Assist System (LAS) &
Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS)
OFF switch indicator light turns on.

N O T E
y When the ignition is switched OFF, the
system status before it was turned off is
maintained. For example, if the ignition
is switched OFF with the lane-keep
system operable, the system will be
operable when the ignition is switched
ON the next time.
y In the following cases, the Lane-keep
Assist System (LAS) & Lane Departure
Warning System (LDWS) is canceled
automatically and the Lane-keep
Assist System (LAS) & Lane Departure
Warning System (LDWS) OFF
indication is displayed in the multi-
information display. Have your vehicle
inspected at an Authorized Mazda
Dealer.
y There is a malfunction in the power
steering.
y There is a malfunction in the DSC.
y There is a malfunction in the
Forward Sensing Camera (FSC).
When the Lane-keep Assist System
(LAS) & Lane Departure Warning System
(LDWS) is turned off, the vehicle lane line
indication in the multi-information display
and the active driving display turn off.

y Under the following conditions, the Smart City Brake Support (SCBS) system may not
operate normally.
y Heavy luggage is loaded in the luggage compartment or on the rear seat.
y If there is the possibility of partial contact with a vehicle ahead.
y When driving on continuously curving roads, and entering and exiting exits.
y Elongated luggage or cargo is loaded onto installed roof rails and covers the laser
sensor (front).
y Exhaust gas from the vehicle in front, sand, snow, and water vapor rising from
manholes and grating, and water splashed into the air.
y When towing a malfunctioning vehicle.
y When driving with tires having signi ¿ cantly different wear.
y In the following cases, the laser sensor (front) may inadvertently determine that there is a
vehicle ahead and the Smart City Brake Support (SCBS) system may operate.
y Objects on the road at the entrance to a curve.
y Vehicles passing in the opposite lane while making a curve.
y Metal objects, bumps, or protruding objects on the road.
y When passing through a toll gate equipped with a bar.
y When passing under a vinyl curtain or À ag.
y Plastic objects such as pylons.
y Two-wheeled vehicles, pedestrians, animals or standing trees.
y When the system operates, the user is noti ¿ ed by the multi-information display.
y The Smart City Brake Support (SCBS) warning indication (amber) turns on when the
system has a malfunction.

Automatic Brake Operation
Display
“Smart City Brake Support Activated” is
displayed in the multi-information display
while the SCBS brakes or the brake assist
(SCBS brake assist) is operating.
N O T E
y The collision warning beep sounds
intermittently while the SCBS brake
or brake assist (SCBS brake assist) is
operating.
y If the vehicle is stopped by the SCBS
operation and the brake pedal is not
depressed, the warning beep sounds
one time after about 2 seconds and the
SCBS brake is automatically released.
Stopping the Smart City Brake
Support (SCBS) System Operation
The Smart City Brake Support (SCBS)
system can be temporarily deactivated.
Refer to Personalization Features on page
9-11 .
When the Smart City Brake Support
(SCBS) system is turned off, the Smart
City Brake Support (SCBS) OFF indicator
light turns on.
When the engine is restarted, the system
becomes operational.

y The Smart Brake Support (SBS) system operates when all of the following conditions are

y The ignition is switched ON.
y The Smart Brake Support (SBS) system is on.
y The vehicle speed is about 15 km/h or faster (10 mph or faster).
y The relative speed between your vehicle and the vehicle ahead is about 15 km/h or
faster (10 mph or faster).
y The Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) is not operating.
y The Smart Brake Support (SBS) system may not operate under the following conditions:
y If the vehicle is accelerated rapidly and it comes close to a vehicle ahead.
y The vehicle is driven at the same speed as the vehicle ahead.
y The accelerator pedal is depressed.
y The brake pedal is depressed.
y The steering wheel is being operated.
y The selector lever is being operated.
y The turn signal is being used.
y When the vehicle ahead is not equipped with taillights or the taillights are turned off.
y When warnings and messages, such as a dirty windshield, related to the Forward
Sensing Camera (FSC)/laser sensor (front) are being displayed in the multi-
information display.
y Although the objects which activate the system are four-wheeled vehicles, the radar
sensor (front) could detect the following objects, determine them to be an obstruction, and
operate the Smart Brake Support (SBS) system.
y Objects on the road at the entrance to a curve (including guardrails and snow banks).
y A vehicle appears in the opposite lane while cornering or rounding a curve.
y When crossing a narrow bridge.
y When passing under a low gate or through a tunnel or narrow gate.
y When entering an underground parking area.
y Metal objects, bumps, or protruding objects on the road.
y If you suddenly come close to a vehicle ahead.
y When driving in areas where there is high grass or forage.
y Two-wheeled vehicles such as motorbikes or bicycles.
y Pedestrians or non-metallic objects such as standing trees.
y When the system operates, the user is noti ¿ ed by the multi-information display.
y The Smart Brake Support (SBS) warning indication (amber) turns on when the system has
a malfunction.

Collision Warning
If there is the possibility of a collision
with a vehicle ahead, the beep sounds
continuously and a warning is indicated in
the multi-information display or the active
driving display.
