Flat Tyre

Either run- À at tyres or conventional tyres
are equipped on your Mazda depending on
the speci ¿ cation, therefore the procedure
for repairing a À at tyre differs depending
on the type of tyre. Before driving, make
sure which type of tyre is equipped on
your Mazda. If you cannot identify your
tyre type, consult an expert repairer,
we recommend an Authorised Mazda
Repairer.
How to Identify Your Tyre Type
R u n - À at tyre
A run- À at tyre has a

Vehicle with Run- À at Tyres
WARNING
Have the tyres checked or perform the
appropriate repair as soon as possible
by an expert repairer, we recommend
an Authorised Mazda Repairer:
When the À at tyre warning light
illuminates or the tyre pressure
warning beep sound is heard, it is
dangerous to drive the vehicle at
high speeds, or perform sudden
manoeuvring or braking. Vehicle
drivability could worsen and result in
an accident.
When the À at tyre warning light
illuminates or the tyre pressure
warning beep sound is heard, decrease
vehicle speed immediately and avoid
sudden manoeuvring and braking.
If a run- À at tyre is punctured, the FLAT
TIRE warning light illuminates in the
instrument cluster, and a beep sound is
heard for about 30 seconds.
NOTE
Until the À at tyre is changed, the beep
sound is heard for about 30 seconds
every time the ignition is switched ON.

Emergency Flat Tyre
Repair Kit
*
The emergency À at tyre repair kit included
with your Mazda is for a temporary repair
of a slightly damaged À at tyre resulting
from running over nails or similar sharp
objects on the road surface.
Perform the emergency À at tyre repair
without removing the nail or similar sharp
object which punctured the tyre.
NOTE
Your vehicle is not equipped with a
spare tyre. In the event of a À at tyre,
use the emergency À at tyre repair kit
to repair the tyre temporarily. When
doing the repair, refer to the instructions
included in the emergency À at tyre
repair kit. If an emergency repair was
performed on a À at tyre using the
emergency À at tyre repair kit, have
an expert repairer, we recommend an
Authorised Mazda Repairer, repair or
replace the tyre as soon as possible.
About the Emergency Flat Tyre
Repair Kit
The emergency À at tyre repair kit includes
the following items.

WARNING
Do not allow children to touch the tyre
sealant:
Ingestion of tyre sealant is
dangerous. In the event tyre sealant
is accidentally swallowed, drink
large amounts of water immediately
and seek medical assistance.
Tyre sealant that comes into contact
with the eyes and skin is dangerous.
If tyre sealant enters the eyes or
contacts the skin, À ush immediately
with large amounts of water and
seek medical assistance.

NOTE
The tyre sealant cannot be reused.
Purchase new tyre sealant at an
Authorised Mazda Repairer.
The emergency À at tyre repair kit
cannot be used in the following
cases.
Consult an expert repairer, we
recommend an Authorised Mazda
Repairer.
The period of effective use for
the tyre sealant has expired. (The
period of effectiveness is indicated
on the bottle label.)
The tear or puncture exceeds about
4 mm (0.16 in).
The damage has occurred to an
area of the tyre other than the
tread.
The vehicle has been driven with
nearly no air remaining in the tyre.
The tyre has come off the wheel
rim.
Damage to the wheel rim has
occurred.
The tyre has two or more
punctures.
Using the Emergency Flat Tyre
Repair Kit
1. Move the vehicle off the right-of-way
to a safe place on a level and hard
surface where the vehicle does not
obstruct traf ¿ c.
2. Shift the shift lever to the 1 or Reverse
(R) position for a manual transmission,
and shift the selector lever to the P
position for an automatic transmission.
3. Apply the parking brake with the brake
pedal depressed and turn off the engine. 4. If necessary, À ash the hazard warning
lights and set up the roadside
emergency triangle.
5. Unload passengers and cargo and
remove the emergency À at tyre repair
kit.
6. Shake the tyre sealant well.
CAUTION
If the bottle is shaken after the injection
hose is screwed on, tyre sealant could
spray out from the injection hose. Tyre
sealant contacting clothing or other
objects may be impossible to remove.
Shake the bottle before screwing on the
injection hose.

WARNING
Do not adhere the speed restriction
sticker to the padded area on the
steering wheel:
Adhering the speed restriction sticker
to the padded area on the steering
wheel is dangerous because the air
bag may not operate (deploy) normally
resulting in serious injury. In addition,
do not adhere the sticker to areas where
warning lights or the speedometer
cannot be viewed.
16. Pull out the air compressor hose and
the air compressor plug from the air
compressor.

17. Install the air compressor hose to the
tyre valve.

18. Insert the air compressor plug into the
accessory socket inside the vehicle and
switch the ignition to ACC.
Refer to Accessory Sockets on page
5-125 .

CAUTION
When inserting the air compressor
plug into or removing it from the
accessory socket, make sure that the air
compressor switch is off. When turning
the air compressor on/off, use the air
compressor switch.
19. Turn the air compressor switch on and
in À ate the tyre carefully to the correct
in À ation pressure.

Check the tyre in À ation pressure
label driver's door frame for the
correct tyre in À ation pressure.
Do not operate the air compressor for
a continuous 10 minutes or longer
because using it for long periods
could cause a malfunction.
If the tyre in À ation pressure does
not increase, repair of the tyre is not
possible. If the tyre does not reach
the speci ¿ ed tyre in À ation pressure
within 10 minutes, it may have
received extensive damage. In this
case, the repair using the emergency
À at tyre repair kit was not successful.
Contact an expert repairer, we
recommend an Authorised Mazda
Repairer.
If the tyre has been over-in À ated,
loosen the screw cap on the air
compressor and bleed some of the air
out.
20. When the tyre in À ates to the speci ¿ ed
tyre in À ation pressure, turn the air
compressor switch off, turn the sleeve
of the air compressor hose to the left,
and pull it out of the tyre valve.
21. Install the tyre valve cap.
22. Put the emergency À at tyre repair kit
into the boot.
23. Start driving immediately to spread the
sealant in the tyre.
CAUTION
Carefully drive the vehicle at a speed of
80 km/h (50 mph) or less. If the vehicle
is driven at a speed of 80 km/h (50 mph)
or more, the vehicle may vibrate.
NOTE
(With tyre pressure monitoring
system)
If the tyre is not properly in À ated, the
tyre pressure monitoring system warning
light will illuminate.
24. After driving the vehicle for about 10
minutes or 5 km (3 miles), connect the
air compressor to the tyre using Step
17 of the procedure, and check the
tyre in À ation pressure using the tyre
pressure gauge on the air compressor. If
the tyre in À ation pressure is lower than
the speci ¿ ed tyre in À ation pressure,
turn the air compressor on and wait
until it reaches the speci ¿ ed tyre
in À ation pressure.
WARNING
If the tyre in À ation pressure has
decreased below 130 kPa (1.3 kgf/cm 2
or bar, 18.9 psi), stop driving and
contact an expert repairer, we
recommend an Authorised Mazda
Repairer:
The repair using the emergency À at
tyre repair kit was not successful.
If you see a decrease in the tyre
in À ation pressure, even if Steps 17
to 24 of the procedure are performed
repeatedly, stop driving:
Contact an expert repairer, we

Repairer.

Overheating
O v e r h e a t i n g
If the high engine coolant temperature
warning light turns on, the vehicle loses
power, or you hear a loud knocking or
pinging noise, the engine is probably too
hot.
WARNING
Pull over to a safe location, then
switch the ignition off and make sure
the fan is not running before
attempting to work near the cooling
fan:
Working near the cooling fan when it
is running is dangerous. The fan could
continue running inde ¿ nitely even if
the engine has stopped and the engine
compartment temperature is high. You
could be hit by the fan and seriously
injured.
Do not remove either cooling
system cap when the engine and
radiator are hot:
When the engine and radiator are hot,
scalding coolant and steam may shoot
out under pressure and cause serious
injury.
Open the bonnet ONLY after steam is
no longer escaping from the engine:
Steam from an overheated engine is
dangerous. The escaping steam could
seriously burn you.
If the high engine coolant temperature
warning light turns on:
1. Drive safely to the side of the road and
park off the right-of-way.
2. Put a vehicle with an automatic
transmission in park (P), a manual
transmission in neutral.
3. Apply the parking brake.
4. Turn off the air conditioner.
5. Check whether coolant or steam is
escaping from the engine compartment.
If steam is coming from the engine
compartment:
Do not go near the front of the vehicle.
Stop the engine.
Wait until the steam dissipates, then
open the bonnet and start the engine.
If neither coolant nor steam is
escaping:
Open the bonnet and idle the engine
until it cools.
CAUTION
If the cooling fan does not operate
while the engine is running, the engine
temperature will increase. Stop the
engine and call an expert repairer,
we recommend an Authorised Mazda
Repairer.
6. Make sure the cooling fan is operating,
then turn off the engine after the
temperature has decreased.
7. When cool, check the coolant level.
If it is low, look for coolant leaks from
the radiator and hoses.

If a Warning Light Turns On or Flashes
If any warning light turns on/ À ashes, take appropriate action for each light. There is no
problem if the light turns off, however if the light does not turn off or turns on/ À ashes again,
consult an Authorised Mazda Repairer.
(Vehicles with type B/type C audio)
The warning contents can be veri ¿ ed on the centre display.
1. If the warning light is turned on, select
icon on the home screen to display the
application screen.
2. Select “Vehicle Status Monitor”.
3. Select “Warning Guidance” to display the current warnings.
4. Select the applicable warning to view the warning details.
Stop Vehicle in Safe Place Immediately
If any of the following warning lights turns on, the system may have a malfunction. Stop the
vehicle in a safe place immediately and contact an Authorised Mazda Repairer.
Signal Warning
(Red)
Brake System Warning
Light
This warning has the following functions:
Parking brake warning/Warning light inspection
The light illuminates when the parking brake is applied with the ignition switched to
START or ON. It turns off when the parking brake is fully released.
Low brake À uid level warning
If the brake warning light remains illuminated even though the parking brake is
released, the brake À uid may be low or there could be a problem with the brake
system. Park the vehicle in a safe place immediately and contact an expert repairer, we
recommend an Authorised Mazda Repairer.
WARNING
Do not drive with the brake system warning light illuminated. Contact an expert
repairer, we recommend an Authorised Mazda Repairer to have the brakes
inspected as soon as possible:
Driving with the brake system warning light illuminated is dangerous. It
indicates that your brakes may not work at all or that they could completely fail
at any time. If this light remains illuminated, after checking that the parking
brake is fully released, have the brakes inspected immediately.
CAUTION
In addition, the effectiveness of the braking may diminish so you may need to
depress the brake pedal more strongly than normal to stop the vehicle.

Signal Warning
Electronic Brake Force
Distribution System
Warning If the electronic brake force distribution control unit determines that some components
are operating incorrectly, the control unit may illuminate the brake system warning
light and the ABS warning light simultaneously. The problem is likely to be the
electronic brake force distribution system.
WARNING
Do not drive with both the ABS warning light and brake warning light
illuminated. Have the vehicle towed to an expert repairer, we recommend an
Authorised Mazda Repairer to have the brakes inspected as soon as possible:
Driving when the brake system warning light and ABS warning light are
illuminated simultaneously is dangerous.
When both lights are illuminated, the rear wheels could lock more quickly in an
emergency stop than under normal circumstances.
Charging System
Warning Indication/
Warning Light If the warning light illuminates while driving, it indicates a malfunction of the
alternator or of the charging system.
Drive to the side of the road and park off the right-of-way. Consult an expert repairer,
we recommend an Authorised Mazda Repairer. CAUTION
Do not continue driving when the charging system warning light is illuminated
because the engine could stop unexpectedly.

Signal Warning
Engine Oil Warning
Light This warning light indicates low engine oil pressure.
CAUTION
Do not run the engine if the oil pressure is low. Otherwise, it could result in
extensive engine damage.
If the light illuminates or the warning indication is displayed while driving:
1. Drive to the side of the road and park off the right-of-way on level ground.
2. Turn off the engine and wait 5 minutes for the oil to drain back into the sump.
3. Inspect the engine oil level 6-20 . If it's low, add the appropriate amount of engine
oil while being careful not to over ¿ ll.
CAUTION
Do not run the engine if the oil level is low. Otherwise, it could result in extensive
engine damage.
4. Start the engine and check the warning light.
If the light remains illuminated even though the oil level is normal or after adding oil,
stop the engine immediately and have your vehicle towed to an expert repairer, we
recommend an Authorised Mazda Repairer.
(Red)
High Engine Coolant
Temperature Warning
Indication/Warning
Light
The light À ashes when the engine coolant temperature is extremely high, and
illuminates when the engine coolant temperature increases further.
Handling Procedure
Flashing light
Drive slowly to reduce engine load until you can ¿ nd a safe place to stop the vehicle
and wait for the engine to cool down.
Illuminated light
This indicates the possibility of overheating. Park the vehicle in a safe place
immediately and stop the engine.
Refer to Overheating 7-24 .
CAUTION
Do not drive the vehicle with the high engine coolant temperature warning light
illuminated. Otherwise, it could result in damage to the engine.

Signal Warning
Power Steering
Malfunction Indicator
Light The light illuminates if the electric power steering has a malfunction.
If the light illuminates, stop the vehicle in a safe place and do not operate the steering
wheel. There is no problem if the light turns off after a while. Contact an expert
repairer, we recommend an Authorised Mazda Repairer if the light illuminates
continuously.
NOTE
If the indicator light illuminates, the power steering will not operate normally. If
this happens, the steering wheel can still be operated, however, the operation may
feel heavy compared to normal, or the steering wheel could vibrate when turning.
Repeatedly jerking the steering wheel left and right while the vehicle is stopped
or moving extremely slowly will cause the power steering system to go into
protective mode which will make the steering feel heavy, but this does not indicate
a problem. If this occurs, park the vehicle safely and wait several minutes for the
system to return to normal.
Contact Authorised Mazda Repairer and Have Vehicle Inspected
If any of the following warning lights or the indicator light turns on/ À ashes, the system
may have a malfunction. Contact an expert repairer, we recommend an Authorised Mazda
Repairer to have your vehicle inspected.

Light

Type A instrument cluster
(Master warning indication)
Displays when noti ¿ cation of the system malfunctions is required.
Check the message indicated in the display and consult an expert repairer, we recommend
an Authorised Mazda Repairer.
(Master warning light)
The master warning light displays when a warning message occurs.
This indicates a malfunction with the vehicle system. Check the message indicated in the
display and consult an expert repairer, we recommend an Authorised Mazda Repairer.
For details, refer to the explanations for the warning/indicator lights, in the warning/
indicator lights section, which match the symbol in the upper part of the display.
If a message is not indicated in the display, operate the INFO switch to display the
“Warning” screen.
Refer to Message Indicated in Multi-information Display and INFO switch on page 4-33 .
Type B instrument cluster
The light illuminates continuously if any one of the following occurs. Consult an expert
repairer, we recommend an Authorised Mazda Repairer.
There is a malfunction in the battery management system. There is a malfunction in the brake switch.
