Fo r ISOFIX or i‑Size child restra int sy stems in
which thech ild is secured using the seat belt
integrated in thech ild restra int sy stem, the
permissible gross mass of thech ild and child
re stra int sy stem is 33 kg.
If th ech ild and thech ild restra int sy stem
to ge ther we igh more than 33 kg,th e ISOFIX
or i‑Size child restra int sy stem with integra‐
te d seat belt does not of fer suf ficient pr otec‐
tion. Too much load may be placed on the
ISOFIX or i‑Size child restra int sy stems and
th ech ild may not be restra ined cor rectly in
th eev ent of an accident, forex ample. #
Ifth ech ild and thech ild restra int sys‐
te m toget her weigh more than 33 kg,
only use an ISOFIX or i‑Size child re

ISOFIX and i-Size are standardised securing sys‐
te ms for special restra int sy stems. ISOFIX child

Only child restra int sy stems that ha vebeen
appr oved in accordance with UN‑R44 may be

If th ere ar seat backrests are not loc ked, they
could fold forw ards in theeve nt of an acci‐
dent, heavy braking or sudden changes of
direction. As a
result, child restra int sy stems cann ot
per form their intended pr otective function.
Re ar seat backrests that are not loc ked can
also cause additional injuries, e.g. in the
ev ent of an accident. #
Alw ays lock rear seat backrests af ter
fi tting TopTe ther belts. #
Obser vethe lock verification indicator. If
th ere ar seat backrest is not engaged and
loc ked, there d lock verification indicator will be
visible.
The risk of injury can be reduced byTopTe ther.
The TopTe ther belt facilitates an additional con‐
nection between thech ild restra int sy stem
attached with ISOFIX or i-Size and theve hicle.
The child restra int sy stem must be equipped
with a TopTe ther belt. Ve

Ac cident statistics show that children secured in
th ere ar seats are generally sa ferth an children
secured in the front seats. Forth is reason,
Mercedes-Benz strongly advises that you ins tall
a ch ild restra int sy stem on a rear seat.
If it is absolutely necessary toins tall a child
re stra int sy stem on the front passenger seat,
alw ays obser vethe information on the automatic
front passenger front airbag shutoff
(→ page 40).
By doing this, you can avoidrisks caused by:
R ach ild restra int sy stem that is not de tected
by the automatic front passenger front airbag
shutoff R
unintentional disabling of the front passenger
front airbag
R incor rect positioning of thech ild restra int

cator lamp is off, the front passenger airbag
can deploy in theev ent of an accident.
The child could be stru ck bythe airbag.
Alw ays ensure that the front passenger air‐
bag is disabled. The PASSENGER AIR BAG
OFF indicator lamp must be lit.
NEVER use a rear wa rd-facing child restra int
sy stem on a seat pr otected byan ENABLED
FRONT AIRB AGin front of it, DE ATH or SERI‐
OUS INJU RYtotheCH ILD can occur. If
th ePA SSENGER AIR BAG OFF indicator lamp is
out, the front passenger front airbag is enabled.
Be sure toobser vethe no tes on the safe trans‐
por tation of children (→ page 46).

When using a rear wa rd-facing child restra int sys‐
te m on the front passenger seat, the front
passenger front airbag must alw ays be disabled.
This is only the case if thePA SSENGER AIR BAG
OFF indicator lamp is lit continuously
(→ page 41).
When using thech ild restra int sy stem on the
front passenger seat, it is essential toobser ve
th efo llowing:
R Movethe front-passen ger seat as far back as
possible and also into the highest position.
R Set the seat backrest toan almost vertical
position.
R Retract the seat cushion length as far as pos‐
sible.
R The entire base of thech ild restra int sy stem
must alw aysre st on the sitting sur face of the
front passenger seat.
R The backrest of thefo rw ard-facing child
re stra int sy stem must, as far as possible, be
re sting on the seat backrest of the front Occupant saf

passenger seat. The
child restra int sy stem
must not touch thero of or be put under
st ra in by the head restra ints.
R If necessar y,adjust the angle of the seat
backrest and the head restra int position
accordingly.
R Adjust the seat cushion inclination so that
th e front edge of the seat cushion is in the
highest position and there ar edge of the
seat cushion is in the lo west position.
R Alw ays make sure that the shoulder belt
st ra p is cor rectly routed from the seat belt
outlet of theve hicle tothe shoulder belt
guide on thech ild restra int sy stem. The
shoulder belt stra p must be routed forw ards
and down wards from the seat belt outlet.
R If necessar y,adjust the seat belt outlet and
th e front passenger seat according ly.
R Never place objects under or behind the
ch ild restra int sy stem, e.g. cushions.
Alw ays comply with the manufacturer's ins talla‐
tion and operating instructions forth ech ild
re stra int sy stem used, and the no tes on attach‐ ing suitable
child restra int sy stems

R When using a baby car seat of the cate‐
gory 0/0+ and a rear wa rd-facing child
re stra int sy stem on a rear seat: adjustthe
driver's and front passenger seat such that
th e seat does not touch thech ild restra int
sy stem.
R When using a forw ard-facing child
re stra int sy stem of category I: remo vethe
head restra int from there spective seat, if
possible (→ page 93). In addition, the seat
backrest of thech ild restra int sy stem must,
as far as possible, lie flat against the back‐
re st of theve hicle seat.
R When youre mo vethech ild restra int sy stem,
fi t th e head restra int immediately (→
page 93) and adjust all the head
re stra ints again cor rectly.
R For cer tain child restra int sy stems in weight
group II or III, there may be restrictions in the
maximum size setting, e.g. due topossible
con tact wi th thero of.
R Make sure that thech ild's feet do not touch
th e front seat. If necessar y,mo vethe front
seat forw ard slightl y.
R The child restra int sy stem must not touch the
ro of or be put under stra in by the head
re stra ints. Adjust the head restra ints accord‐
